— Where I come from? I chuckle a little. And point towards the bush I stumbled from previously. From there. And I was standing right here for last few minutes already, conversing with your companions.

I pause, contemplating, while still looking at half-orc. After a few seconds I sigh out and say:
— Let's remove future misunderstandings, shall we? And decisively cancel disguise magic effect, appearing as myself - pale greyish blue furred tabaxi. And I do have some lockpicks on me. But do you mind if I first check this chest for traps and such?
OOC:
If given a permission - Moon will approach the chest and begin investigating it for traps.

Tomas looks surprised at the person's change into some sort of furry creature.
OOC:
Actually, are Tabaxi rare in the Sapphire Isles? Doesn't cancel Tomas's surprise, just whether or not he's familiar with Moon's people.
Still, he's glad they seem to be able to help them with this locked chest situation, since he had no idea what to do with it, personally. And it wasn't as if they would be able to run away with what was inside, even if they did manage to open it, since all of them were here and would be able to stop them.

OOC:
@Tomas: Yes very rare. You have almost certainly never seen one or probably even heard of one before
Nov 12, 2018 8:37 am
OOC:
@Moon: You are very certain that it is not trapped.

OOC:
I'll wait for other players' posts as Moon would definitely wait for everyone to show their approval of her approach to the chest. Or indifference would work too :D

PS. For those who have no experience with tabaxi race it would be hard do discern their gender, especially as Moon's voice is husky[ and not "feminine" at all :)

Ronda flinches when the newcomer changes into a cat person. She has never liked cats, and not just because of Rousey. The half-orc instinctively puts a protective hand over the pocket where her pet mouse is nestled. The other hand she places on her hip, showing off her impressive bicep.

The cat has lockpicks. Good because they can help, bad because that makes this person a thief. If they can change appearance, who knows what else they're capable of?
OOC:
Ronda consents since she suggestedit anyway, but she doesn't trust Moon one bit. At least, not yet.

Moon, Wait 24 hours from your last post. If anyone has an objection they have until then to make their voice heard.

You can go ahead and examine the chest now Moon.
Nov 13, 2018 9:18 am
After waiting for reactions or lack of them from the group, I move towards the chest and begin slowly examining it for any possible traps and other surprises.

— As I said already - name is Moon. By some ... fate, chance or other unknown random force out paths crossed, so how about some introductions? I speak calmly while checking chest's hinges. Well, good news is that it isn't appear to be trapped. Bad news is that, from my experience, locks that were exposed to the water for a long time might get tricky. Especially if it's a salt water.

I take out my tools and begin tinkering with the locking mechanism...
OOC:
What a time for a nat 20! :D

Jesus, that's the second time you have rolled a natural 20 when I've been about to give you loot. It always makes me want to give you a little something extra so...
You open the rather large chest and inside you find a number of things.
1. A small pouch containing 220 gold pieces.
2. Two wooden and metal devices wrapped in very soft cloth. They look to be very expensively made and have beautiful horse imagery inlayed in silver carved in what appears to be some kind of handle.
3. A bag of rather large ball bearings.
4. A small leather container with a sealed lid. It seems to have been filled with some kind of powder.
5. A large red gemstone. It might be a ruby.
6. 2 purple potions.

If anyone is from the Sapphire Isles they may give me a history check.
OOC:
Also, some sad news everyone. Our paladin has left us. Farewell Krigare. I'll write him out of the story shortly.
Nov 13, 2018 3:44 pm
Tomas applauds at Moon's achievement and looks over all the goods inside. An odd sense of familiarity comes over him, but he's not sure where to place it, as he looks.

History - (1d20+2)

(10) + 2 = 12

OOC:
Any chance that Moon has some knowledge due to her overall extensive 'Historical Knowledge'? :)
It's even in her background's feature name :D
— Or maybe here was the opposite of the 'bad news'... I say while feeling that the lock is partly rusted inside and easily pry it open, swinging the chest's lid open and instantly moving away from it. Here you go.
Nov 13, 2018 4:50 pm
"I'm impressed," Ronda says with sincere admiration. "And I know a thing or two about thieving."

Ronda crouches down and aifts through the chest contents. "What's all this then? Let's divvy it up and get moving. Can'tbe dawdling around here all day."

— Thieving? My ears perk up at that remark. I never stole anything in my life!
OOC:
For possible insight checks - it's the truth
Nov 13, 2018 8:41 pm
"Never said you did, hun. I stole plenty back in the day, and that was a top-notch job you did on the lock."

Ronda holds up the horse-decorated handles. "Whaddya suppose these do?"

OOC:
@Moon. The only only place this particular piece of knowledge can be found is in the Sapphire Isles, unless you have had significant dealings with the Western Trading Company. If you have, then you can make a history check too.

"Those, my good woman, are pistols. They're like... bows that shoot themselves after you press a button. And instead of shooting an arrow, they shoot a little metal ball. Those little metal balls, in fact. They can do some very nasty things to people. I recommend handling with care. Especially that leather pouch. That powder could blow us all to bits. A buddy of mine lost a couple fingers playing around with that stuff. We... weren't the brightest of the lot. Speaking of which, I'm gonna give one of these vials a bit of a taste. You can tell a little bit about what it's supposed to do from the flavor. I know, because me and my buddy were the guys who were always made to taste the random liquids that people found. It wasn't the best."

Tomas raised one of the potions to his lips and touched the liquid to his tongue and lips, before lowering the mouth of the vial away. He scrunched up his face, thinking... As he was in the middle of thinking about the taste, however, he suddenly remembered himself and began to apologize to Moon.

"Ah, sorry, by the way. Like I said, I'm Tomas. These are my companions Herod, Krigare, and Ronda. We're mercenaries, tasked to saving a town. We're looking for help from the wizard a bit down the way. Since you seem pretty capable, I'm sure we could use your help, sir. Ma'am? Sorry, I've never met someone like you before. Um, sorry. Anyways, I'd be willing to let you have my share of what's in this chest to pay for your services up until we get back to the place where trying to protect. Then, if you like us, and you like the town, you can sign on to protect the town too and get paid that way. Erm... not trying to assume you need money. But you were hiding yourself and all. Though I guess that's fair, looking the way you do. I mean! Ah, not like that. Ah, sorry.

Tomas felt heat rise to his face as he went on... Oh, right and he was trying to identify a potion!
