Episode 2: The Bronze Age

Kalis takes a single step away from the scorpion and simply watches it, watching how its legs work in perfect harmony to carry it across the wagon seat. He tries not to focus on his companions, knowing that he needs to trust in them.
OOC:
I have not read the party's posts since they've been away from the wagon. I'm trying to play as if I don't know what's going on, and it's easier to do if I really don't know :)

Hearing the metal ring off the shield, Gyges gets up and heads over to aid Reizei.
OOC:
Would I still be able to stand up, walk over, and cast Prestidigitation this turn? I'd like to use the smell to make Reizei's foe feel a tap on his back, as if someone threw a small rock at it.

OOC:
Prestidigitation's range is 10 feet, but we never really established where you were when it all started. I'd say you can create the nonmagical object and have it fall on the half-orc's back or shoulder, if you like.

Make a Dexterity check to see how well you can "aim" the spell's location.

Maenor aims again at the half-orc, hoping to end this quickly.

Rolls

longbow attack, advantage?, damage - (1d20+6, 1d20+6, 1d8+4)

1d20+6 : (10) + 6 = 16

1d20+6 : (9) + 6 = 15

1d8+4 : (3) + 4 = 7

Reizei quickly recovers from the glancing blow to his shield and retaliates. Gritting his teeth he flicks his wrist to allow the flail head to lash out toward his assailant.

Rolls

Attack - (1D20+6)

(10) + 6 = 16

Damage - (1D8+4)

(5) + 4 = 9

OOC:
That'll do it.
Gyges' spell summons a small wooden lizard that appears above the half-orc's shoulder and drops onto the studded leather armor. There's the barest of flinches, but it's all that Reizei needs to smash his flail into the mercenary's neck. At the same time, another arrow thuds into the half-orc's back, and he joins the dwarf on the ground.

Silence settles.

Maenor freezes in place and listens and watches carefully, an ear cocked toward the camp.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+6)

(1) + 6 = 7

There is naught but silence.

Maenor believes that with the hunting blind secured, a path is available to skirt around the main encampment. Passage may still be difficult with the absence of light, but he reasons that their chances are better now that this section of sentries has been neutralized.

Maenor returns to his comrades and shares his supposition.

OOC:
At this point, you could try to navigate the cart around the camp. Light may not be a problem if those with darkvision will take the reins and either drive or lead the horses and wagon.

If this is the plan, I'll need an Animal Handling check for whoever's handling the horses. If someone else wishes to assist, describe your Help action and advantage may be provided.

If you wish to be quiet about your travel, I'll take a general Stealth check from everybody to represent the group's effort, so hopefully more of you succeed than not.

Otherwise, if there's another course of action you wish to take, feel free to plan it out.

OOC:
Maenor can lead the horses, and try to be quiet about it. Anyone have any ideas to help?

OOC:
I'll move this along.

Maenor, go ahead and make an Animal Handling check with advantage. We'll assume someone helps you with their darkvision in leading the horses.

I'm adding a generic Stealth check.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20)

(7) = 7

Maenor speaks softly and encouragingly to the horses as they navigate around the camp.

Rolls

animal handling, advantage - (1d20+4, 1d20+4)

1d20+4 : (8) + 4 = 12

1d20+4 : (14) + 4 = 18

The pace is slow as you travel. Maenor easily calms the horses and manages to lead them across the dark desert.

As you proceed, you become keenly aware of how much noise the cart makes. Each bump, each shift of wood and wheel seems to echo like the clattering of pans in the clear night air. Even the cold dry ground crunches underfoot like an avalanche of stone.

Your path, however, is unimpeded. You pass the neutralized hunting blind without issue and traverse until you draw nearer to the main encampment. The fire is low there as it seems much of its occupants have turned in, but you can easily see the slight movements of two sentries at watch, perhaps listening for any reports from their scouts.

At one point, it seems as though one of the guards notices your passing, straining his eyes and ears over in your direction. He holds a torch high and walks a few feet out of the camp, but after a few tense seconds he returns to his post.

You put the camp behind you just as the dawn lightens the sky. The sun has not yet risen, but the morning comes soon.

As they pass by the camp, Kalis sighs in relief, not relishing the thought of fighting in the dark. As the sun rises, he feels much better about the journey ahead.
