Reizei nods. "So be it. Let us avoid them. The success of the mission takes precedent."

OOC:
It is dark, you have a wagon and horses, and the encampment is in your way. You could certainly attempt to skirt around the scouts by circumventing the camp entirely, but it is a considerable distance across uneven terrain. Or, you might come up with other means of accomplishing your desire to avoid the camp.

How do you proceed?

"I think avoiding them may be best then. Additionally, we should note this location on a map. It may be useful in the future," Gyges says. "Perhaps we could set out individually and meet up somewhere? It would be a risk, but it may ensure we find our way around the camp. The cart is an issue though..."

OOC:
Hadn't realized they were camped across our path...am re-thinking what Maenor would suggest.
Sep 22, 2018 5:46 pm
Maenor sighs, "I had forgotten about the cart. It would ill behoove us to leave such a bounty in the hands of our enemies. We shall have to kill them after all." He looks to Coda a moment, then a sparkle appears in his eyes, "Unless, perhaps, we can scare them off instead..."
Sep 22, 2018 6:37 pm
Coda nods, showing interest in hearing what this plan is.

Reizei smirks. The opportunity for some catharsis after the recent defeat is welcome news indeed.

Maenor pauses a moment, deep in thought.
OOC:
What's a really scary animal/monster, with a recognizable call, that would conceivably be in this area?

Among the beasts of the desert, there are giant versions of the snake, scorpion, and spider. There could also be underground monstrosities, such as ankhegs, bulettes, and purple worms.

Maenor also recalls that gnolls were nearby, and it's not outlandish to think other humanoid tribes like hobgoblins might call the desert home. Ogres and other giant-kin might wander about. Insectoid creatures such as the thri-keen like to lair in arid places, and rarer might be the kruthiks. The yuan-ti are also a possibility.

Then, there are the undead.
Sep 24, 2018 11:26 pm
Maenor explains, "I have the ability to reproduce either a small image or a sound. Do any of you share this skill? If so, perhaps we can convince them that the desert holds more danger than a handful of rebels. Frighten them enough, and perhaps they will flee."
Sep 25, 2018 12:16 am
Reizei smirks. "I like how your mind works. I, too, can create some small effects in line with what you've described. I doubt they will flee, but if we can rattle them, divide them, or get their focus turned in the wrong direction, perhaps we can gain an advantage when we attack. It should prove enough to tilt the field in our favour."

He pauses, reads his audience, then adds, "Provided they don't flee, of course."

"I have some tricks up my sleeves as well," says Gyges while mentally reviewing his spells. "I can't duplicate the effect you're describing, but I might be able to help with the diversion."
OOC:
And just to be clear, "Enlarge/Reduce" won't work on an Illusion, correct?
Sep 25, 2018 4:20 am
OOC:
Enlarge/Reduce is cast upon a creature or an object. An illusion is neither.
Sep 25, 2018 12:11 pm
"I'm afraid that I don't have anything of that sort," Kalis says regretfully, "My powers just seem to come to me with no input..."
Sep 26, 2018 2:46 am
CancerMan says:
OOC:
Enlarge/Reduce is cast upon a creature or an object. An illusion is neither.
OOC:
That's what I thought from reading the rules, but wanted to be sure. Still think I can help with the diversion.

Reizei raises an eyebrow and tilts his head to one side. "What are you thinking, Maenor? Have you a plan, or were you hoping we would all come up with one together?" The last thing Reizei would want would be to upset whatever system the group had in place before being gracious enough to allow him to tag along. At this point he's just happy to be alive.
Sep 28, 2018 11:20 pm
"The latter, for I had the germ of a plan only."
Sep 28, 2018 11:53 pm
Reizei nods. "Then, unless someone has a better idea, might I be so bold as to suggest we, all of us, situate ourselves in the best position possible for ambush, and then, slowly, you and I lure people from camp with sounds from our bag of tricks."

"The first one might follow the sound, and sight, of a comely lass lost in the wild, or perhaps that of a rare animal worth hunting. After we waylay him, if all goes to plan, we could potentially lure a compatriot with visions and sounds of his missing friend."

He pauses and regards his new found compatriots, trying to gauge their reactions, "Thoughts, criticisms, amendments?"

Maenor nods, "A good plan. I have an idea for the first illusion. Shall we proceed?"
Oct 1, 2018 10:13 am
"Ready when everyone else is...lead the way."
