Chapter 1 - The Beginning

Aelar, Ramas, and Utes run in to the clearing and engage with the goblins. Aelar leaps out and rushes Vic. His rapier pierces the air, and Vic squarely in the gut. It grunts, but remains on it's feet. Ramas flourishes his two short swords and lashes out at Scar with each. The first attack sinks into the goblins arm, but it deflects the second with a shield. Utes takes the remaining goblin, Trip. He raises his shield to deflect but lifts too high and Utes finds her opening sinking the sword into the goblin with ease. He lets out a rasp as he drops to the ground dead.

Crolwell and Xadira take on Bruiser. Crolwell slides in out of nowhere and swings his hefty ax low. Bruiser jumps over it and lets out a roar of laughter. It's cut short when a firebolt strikes him in the chest. The smell of burnt fur fills the air.

-- Enemy turn --
Bruiser, not very happy about the fire lashes out at his nearest target, Crolwell, with a hefty Morningstar

Vic slices back at Aelar with a scimitar.

Scar, having deflected the last sword attack feels pretty confident. "I will bathe in your blood", he shouts in common as he swings his scimitar.

Klarg continues out of the clearing and into the woods, still running away from the group.

Eyeing the big bugbear engaged with Crolwell, Ütés decides that two on one is more than fair. Sword slung low to her opposite side as she rushes in she takes a wicked backhand uppercut at Bruiser and quickly reverses her grip on the weapon as she follows up with overhand stab to the chest.

OOC: Action surge for the second attack and then she'll use her reaction to protect Crolwell should Bruiser try to attack him again (Protection Fighting Style).

EDIT: Going to add Bardic Inspiration to my second attack.
EDIT: BALLS!

Satisfied that Crolwell and Ütés will make short work of the Bugbear in no time, I turn my attention towards Scar, attempting to blast it with frigid cold blue-white energy.

Aelar grimaces as the goblin blade digs into him, but deftly turns away from it, spinning and turning gracefully he comes into a low crouch and launches like a coiled spring at Vic, viciously thrusting at the small creatures chest.

Bruiser swings at Crolwell and the attack widely misses the barbarian. Utes runs in, seeing the opening and uppercuts the bug bear with a solid hit. He staggers back which puts him just out of reach of the follow through attack. Xadira sends a chilling blast careening into Scar. Ice cracks across his abdomen and the skin cracks and crumbles apart. He howls, as he raises his scimitar high.

Ramas, trying not to let Scar get the upper hand swings at him again with both swords. The first hit connects and drops the goblin easily.

As Aelar spins to land a final blow on Vic the goblin sees the sign and sidesteps the attack. Vic in turn lunges towards Aelar trying to land another hit.

Bruiser, swings his Morningstar at Utes to try and stop the assault on him. Klarg continues his run and is now out of the clearing and into the woods.

[ GM: Ignore the attack from Scar, he is dead.

Aelar, truly hurt by the last attack makes a desperate attack to try to finish Vic off.

Seeing the light leave Vic's eyes Aelar draws and launches a dagger at Bruiser

If, somehow, that attack didn't kill Vic, then I will use the dagger on Vic instead

Finally got him! This is why I like having more than 1 attack per round.

Taking advantage of the new TWF rules!

Aelar's attack indeed spears through Vic right through the heart and he drops like a sack of potatoes. With a flourish he flips a dagger skillfully into the abdomen of Bruiser. He roars with pain, but does not fall.

Seeing the dagger plunge into Bruiser's stomach Ütés quickly follows up. Stepping into her swing she brings the sword down aiming for the bugbear's collar bone.

Seeing Bruiser get hit with the dagger Utes attempts to swing at the bugbear, but he isn't so distracted he doesn't sidestep the attack.

Crolwell takes off after the fleeing Klarg and catches him just outside of the clearing. He swings his ax at the fleeing bugbear and easily sinks an attack into Klarg's shoulder. It doesn't stop his attempt to flee.

Xadira, seeing a break in the action, quickly finds solace behind a tree. As far as she can tell she is quite hidden.

-- Enemy Turn --
Bruiser, now left with only Utes in front of him attempts to bring his morningstar down on her.

Klarg, having now lost sight of Aelar, the one he feared, he tries to regain his composure, but he can't seem to come back to his senses and uses a dash action to double his movement away.

Damage:
Klarg (bugbear): 23 dmg (fear)
Bruiser (bugbear): 20 dmg

"Just in time, Aelar!"

Upset that she missed on her last attack Ütés throws her shield off to the side and puts both hands on the hilt of her sword. Swinging right to left she leans into the attack and attempts to slice Bruiser in half just above his waist.

Rolls

Attack [+6] - (1d20+6)

(17) + 6 = 23

Damage [+4] - (1d10+4)

(1) + 4 = 5

Nov 5, 2015 1:30 am
Aelar is able to get a good dagger into Bruiser's back, but Ütés comes through with a solid strike and drops the brute. He is cleanly bisected at the waist with the blow.

Damage:
Klarg (bugbear): 23 dmg (fear)
Bruiser (bugbear): 29 dmg (dead)
Nov 5, 2015 11:07 pm
After whipping her blade back and forth a few times to remove the blood and gore from it Ütés will walk over to recover her shield as she eyes Klarg running away.

"I'm not sure we should bother chasing him at this point. Even if he were to show up at the caravan the guards could surely handle a single, injured bugbear. What do you think, Aelar?"
Nov 5, 2015 11:22 pm
Aelar nods, cleans his weapons and sheaths them. He retrieves his dagger from Bruiser's body and responds after taking a look around, "Yeah, i don't think we have to worry about him anymore."
Nov 5, 2015 11:39 pm
GM: Xadira and Crolwell can still act if they so choose.
Nov 6, 2015 1:27 am
Crolwell hurls his axe at the bugbear, attempting to catch the creature in the back before it gets away.

I close my eyes and meditate for a moment, contemplating the material plane and feeling the ebb and flow of magic coursing through the artifacts that I carry.
Nov 6, 2015 3:20 am
Crolwell hefts his sword at the fleeing bugbear but misses it and his axe digs into the ground. The bugbear continues his fleeing and is soon out of sight. Xadira is able to calm from the battle and soon the scene is quiet, save for the sounds of a lumbering figure getting farther away through the underbrush.
