Yohna is ready for such an attack, raising her shield as she hears the bolt whistle towards her, then clunk as it sticks into the obstacle. The cleric grimaces when she hears the bell, and readies herself for battle. However, the force of the bolt striking her shield has caused her to stumble back a bit, only just saving herself from tripping on a branch outright and staggering her retaliation for the moment.

Rolls

Initiative - (1d20+2)

(1) + 2 = 3

Alive at the sudden commotion, Falka readies herself to make a run for the edge of the bushes. Her eyes are wide at the thought of imminent combat, and she slings her glaive from its sheath, holding it across her back.

Rolls

Initiative - (1d20+2)

(10) + 2 = 12

OOC:
Andrew. Sorry I meant to add that. You guys are 150 feet away from the cliffside.
Aug 24, 2018 8:07 pm
Midnight, who has been sticking as close to the center of the group as absolutely possible, can't help but cry out in reaction to the sudden attack. "YOHNA!"

Rolls

Initiative - (1d20+2)

(14) + 2 = 16

Vardo's arrow flies into the tree about where the crossbow bolt came from. There is a high pitched yelp and movement that follows, indicating that the arrow struck true.
OOC:

While we wait for Breezy to roll init, Midnight, Vardo, and Falka can take their actions.

OOC:
Shouldn't we post in order of Initiative to save confusion?
Aug 24, 2018 8:46 pm
OOC:
You can do that. But, since everyone's posting schedule is different, I've decided it would be more efficient to group the initiatives.
See the post in preliminaries. This was on the advice of people on this forum. If you guys would rather prefer exact initiative orders then we can try that.

EDIT: "Once rolled, the actual order of action will be on a group basis. As in, those players that go before a group of enemies may post their actions immediately before that group of enemies. Going in order of who posts first. Afterwards, the group of enemies will go. Then the group players that go after the enemies will post their action, and repeat as necessary if more than one group of enemies. I think this is a good compromise. If this method still bogs down combat, I reserve the right to change it to just pure group initiatives (one for players, one for enemies)."

OOC:
I don't mind that so much, that makes sense given the schedules. I'm just saying that we don't know which group Breezy's gonna be in just yet, though if the order of posts within the group doesn't matter so much, it's not as much of a problem as I thought.

Bleak says:
OOC:
though if the order of posts within the group doesn't matter so much, it's not as much of a problem as I thought.
OOC:
Yep. My thoughts exactly.

OOC:
Just running out for a bit. I'll post Vardo's action soon. Just a quick question; can he see any targets/enemies?
Aug 24, 2018 9:17 pm
OOC:
The only target Vardo sees at the moment is the one in the tree. (Assuming Vardo moves in closer this round). There's a makeshift guard post up there that he can make out as he gets closer, camouflaged with leaves and giving the bandit half cover. He also spots a second guardpost (given his passive perception) in a tree across but no one is posted there yet. This gang of brigands seems well organized compared to your typical hodge-podge bandit crew.
Aug 24, 2018 9:24 pm
As he moves in closer to verify his hit, Vardo sees the bandit in a guardpost in the tree. Grinning at the sight of one of his arrows embedded in the villain, he fires another.
OOC:
immediately after firing, he'll back off a few feet to give the melee members a way in and to ward himself from any bandits whom he may not yet see.

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+6)

(3) + 6 = 9

Damage - (1d8+4)

(2) + 4 = 6

In his excitement and haste to knock another arrow and let it fly *THWISH*, Vardo aims a bit high and the arrow sticks *THUNK* above the injured bandit.
OOC:
I'll assume full movment, so you're now 120 feet from the cliff side, 100 feet from the guardposts and 60 feet from the surrounding bushes
Aug 24, 2018 10:05 pm
OOC:
Just for the record, what range is Yohna currently at? She went poking in the bushes after all.
Aug 24, 2018 10:07 pm
OOC:
You guys are all about 150 feet from the cliffside when the crossbow bolt flew. So at the start of the initiative everyone is about 150 feet from the cliffside, 130 feet from the guardpost and 90 feet from the bushes. Yohna haven't made it to the bushes yet. I mean she was in clear view of the guard (no stealth attempt).
Aug 24, 2018 10:09 pm
OOC:
Okay, that clears things up. I wasn't aware she hadn't actually made it to the shrubs.
Aug 24, 2018 10:13 pm
OOC:
That reminds me, Breezy, it seems you have gone unnoticed by the guard hiding behind some flora/tree (they have poor passive perception).
Aug 24, 2018 10:17 pm
Unusually silent, a look of steely determination paints Falka's face. However, her knightly demeanour shines brighter than ever as she charges the bandit's ranks, full of bravery and bravado. This bravery is not untempered though, as she dodges and weaves through the trees, her keen eyes carefully surveying where she can benefit from the best cover from the brigands' arrows. She runs with the tactical poise of a trained warrior, the grace clear in every calculated and practiced movement. Clouds of grass and leaves are tossed up behind her boots as she tears across the dell towards her enemies. She lets out one gallant cry to her comrades, "Onward, we fight for glory!"

OOC:
Falka will use her action to dash if there is plentiful cover for her to stay in while moving and for her to end her movement in. If not, she will use her action to dodge instead.

OOC:
There's definitely sparse trees and flora around the dell that one could use as cover but while doing dash action in a straight line, you wouldn't get cover bonus from them as you'd have to zigzag around cover to cover. I suppose can dash in a zig zag pattern but then you wouldn't advance full 50 feet towards the brush. But at this distance, the light crossbow would get disadvantage on its attack rolls if that helps in your decision.

OOC:
In that case I'll dash as far as possible, trying to end the turn in cover.
