OOC:
Rand, there is a window in the sitting room. You find that the window itself is locked shut with a lever mechanism. You have to open the lever and then open the window to get to the shutter, which is bolted shut with a metal bolt on one side that slides into a hole in the other. It's functioning perfectly, and there is no sign of any damage on this one. There's nothing that seems out of place in the room, or in the entry hall. It's as if nothing had ever happened here.
At mention of the kidnappings, Gretchen's head tilts down to the floor and her tone turns to sadness.
"They just disappeared in the night, Jaq. Nobody saw or heard a thing. None of the children so much as stirred, and in the morning they were just gone. Four of them, from right under my nose. I feel as though I failed them." She pauses for a moment as emotion sweeps over her and she tries to hold herself together in front of her guests. She steels her face and says,
"It's reassuring that there are so many different people looking for them. The town guard came first thing in the morning when we reported them missing. The next day two men from the Lord Mayor's office came by asking questions, and then yesterday the young man of St. Cuthbert came by. And now you."
She looks at each one of you in turn, peering carefully into your eyes to get a read on your character. Then she says to everyone in the room,
"Bring them back. You must find them. They're only children. They've already been through so much."
She stands up, straightens her dress and says,
"You have my permission to search the building. My staff will answer any questions you have. You may talk to the children, but please use discretion. Many of them have experienced great trauma, and we try not to exacerbate it." To Jaqir she adds,
"Patch is in his room. He is probably only just waking up. He has been staying in the basement. You can get there through the door out back."
