Yikes. This is not going well.

I dunno, Jabari seem's to be doing ok :)

OOC:
He won't be if Khurza falls! I do note she has Parry and a Heroic Ability to raise Soak, so maybe all's not lost yet.
Jul 2, 2019 9:21 pm
OOC:
That puts me just at 16/16 for wounds, so I shall parry (which puts me at 13/16). Or come up with a new character.

For the threats perhaps the 3 represents them dropping their weapon from the rushed attack (maybe by Khurza herself) and taking 1 strain.

"I hate magic!" Jabari curses through gritted teeth. He focuses on the witcher, trying to keep the other Goblins out of his mind for the moment. He studies her movements and looks for the perfect time to slash at her with his scimitar.
OOC:
Aiming, then aiming again for 2 strain at the witcher. Let's hope I can connect.
OOC:
The dice hate us! Can I disarm her for 3 advantage? Might make a difference if Khurza can seize both the weapons this round, or at least the witch's staff.

As the Thug attempts to deliver their attack Khurza's axe spins round and knocks their sword out of their hands, it spits some barely understandable curse at the Orc.

Jabari, ignoring the mob of goblins pressing at him for the moment, delivers a couple of quick strikes at the Witcher. She manages to deflect the worst of them but her staff slips from her hands as she does so.

What would it cost to break the staff, or grab it (and the thug's sword)? Right now I'm thinking we try to parley/intimidate them, or beat them down when they have no weapons.
Jul 3, 2019 6:28 pm
OOC:
You could probably grab one of them with a maneuver using your shield hand, assuming your shield doesn't need to be grasped. Or say you're stepping on the weapons, putting your weight down. Either would hopefully only take a maneuver and still allow you to attack. That would force them to try an opposed Athletics check to get the weapon(s) back and eat up their actions, unless they opt to attack unarmed or cast magic without the staff.

OOC:
For a weapon break without sunder you have to damage it through the quality states, slightly damaged, damaged, heavily damaged, broke. Whatever you think makes the most sense, Imma chill over here in the shade... XD

OOC:
Right, after having a trawl through the rulebook here's what I'm going to say for damaging items in a combat encounter:

Without Sunder - Held Items
Must take an Aim maneuver to target the specific item and then spend an Action to attack it.
Attack will be at 2 x Setback if 1 maneuver spent aiming, 1 x Setback if 2 Maneuvers spent aiming.
Attack can only damage it one level on a successful attack, Triumphs or 3 x Advantages can be spent to damage it further

Without Sunder - Non-Held Items
Do not need to use Aim Maneuver to target item.
Can use an Action to attack the item at normal difficulty
Attack can only damage it one level on a successful attack, Triumphs or 3 x Advantages can be spent to damage it further

With Sunder - Held Items
As per weapon quality
When attacking a target can spend 1 x Advantage to Activate Sunder (even if attack misses) and select 1 item held or worn by the target to be damaged 1 level.
Can spend additional Advantages to damage Item additional levels (must be same item)

With Sunder - Non-Held Items
Do not need to use Aim Maneuver to target item.
Can use an Action to attack the item at normal difficulty
Attack can only damage it one level on a successful attack, can damage it an additional level for each additional Advantage spent

We'll try the above and see how it works, I'm a bit worried it might be too easy to destroy items but we can always change it on the fly. Thoughts?

OOC:
Those rulings look fine! It's actually pretty hard to destroy an item without Sunder, but I think that's by design to protect PC items. What's good for the goose and all that.

Grabbing the item or stepping on it and forcing them to try to wrestle it back might be more effective than trying to destroy it. Another option is to throw it into the fire, but that requires Khurza to sacrifice her attack.

Crossing fingers that we turn the tide somehow! :)
Jul 4, 2019 5:06 pm
OOC:
The rulings look reasonable to me, but I guess we'll have to put it into practice. Grabbing the weapon does seem smarter given our lack of sundering tools.

WELP I put too much stock in attacking it seems. Uhhh advantage to to Jabari, who is inspired to run away before he too dies.
Khurza tosses her shield to the ground, replacing it with the bothersome staff. "Don't come any closer, or I'll rip it to splinters!" She swings at the Witch, trying to get her to back off, or just kill her.

As Khurza grabs the staff she finds it somewhat unwieldy to keep hold of the staff and attack as well, the attempt to do so pulling her off balance slightly.
OOC:
Despair will be to upgrade the difficulty of Khurza's next check
The witcher is beginning to look a tad harassed, the effort of casting so much magic and trying to defend herself with the injury Pomin inflicted on her is really starting to wear as she sends another blast of lightning at Khurza and Jabari but it does seem lessened somewhat without her staff.
OOC:
Ok, going to resolve this first before taking the rest of the goblin's turns....right that's 3 damage to Khurza which she soaks easily
The Goblin Thug scoops up their weapon and slashes at Kurza ineffectually whilst the other couple of goblins press their attacks on Jabari.
OOC:
5 damage to Jabari

There are a few threats for you to play with there so just shout out if you'veany ideas otherwise I'll consider them to be Strain/Wounds on the bad guys

OOC:
Two strain on the minions is fine, unless we can use that to spot an easily obtained curative item for Khurza! :)
The sting of the goblin blades forces Jabari to shift his focus from the witch. "Back off, you cursed pests!" He blocks a few clumsy blows from the trio of foes at his flank, studying their movements for an opportune time to strike.
OOC:
Taking 2 strain to aim twice, and taking the boost Khurza passed along. That's 8 damage before soak on the minion group. The dice truly hate us.

As the goblins collide with one another Jabari sees his opportunity. A flurry of quick strikes leaves two of them lying dead or dying on the floor with the last one looking absolutely terrified.

As the thug tries to attack Khurza the witcher starts sending barely controlled blasts of lightning out at the orc. Both of them jerk back as the backlash of the magic licks out towards them

I've already applied the Threats as wounds to the various NPC's (as they're all Minions/Rivals) but I restricted them to taking wounds from the Threats on their checks only

Ah. I like to think in the fight there's an occasional pan to the Pomin ragdoll pile, maybe a small rodent stands on top the heap. XD

Khurza can feel the battle turning toward their favor, goblins becoming weary or falling one by one. She is spurred on, focusing intently on preventing the witch from retreating, through the use of helm splitting axe blows.
