Daniel, quite confused to find the old goblin here, keeps his grip on his sword, "Well, when it does show up, what can we expect?"
Oct 9, 2018 1:57 pm
Stearvall turns his head to the side like a curious bird looking at the drawing, he reaches out a finger to see how fresh it seems. absently "Who do you worship old one?"
Oct 10, 2018 12:53 am
Lavender sees that Grumpy is tearing down the huts and putting the sticks onto his cart. The sticks would make good kindling. Grumpy looks at Daniel and Stearvall. Then blinks. "Well, not that it's your business, but I worship Radhu." He pulls out a pair of rabbit's ears. "Always good to have a trickster god on your side." He rubs the ears on his ears and then puts them back into his pocket. "What to expect? Hell, I expect you all will be eaten." He loughs a bit at his own joke. But to be honest, I don't know what to expect. Except the grimalkin ain't the smartest goblins to cross over. We are able to lock our doors and shutters and that seems good enough to keep 'em out. They don't use tools, or weapons. But we know they got claws and sharp teeth. From the marks on our doors."

He seems to realize you aren't going to kill him so he reaches forward and grabs a piece of hut wall and pulls. He tugs and pulls left and right until it is loose. He then pulls it out of the wall and throws it on his cart. "Me, I aim to tear this village down. Maybe if the village is gone the grimalkin will be gone too."

He then looks down sadly. "I lost my wife to those creatures. So I want them gone more than most..."

"Well, by the end of the night, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. I aim to cut them all down," Daniel says with conviction.
Oct 10, 2018 1:06 am
Grumpy looks at Daniel then over at Murt. He squints his eyes in the early morning sun. It seems he is thinking to himself. "I heard what she done." He says pointing to Murt. He then seems to appraise Daniel's weapons and armor. "Well... I ain't trying to get ya killled but I can show you where their hole is. It is just over dug out under a large stone." he points past the village aways.
Oct 10, 2018 10:58 am
With a heavy sigh Lavender finally puts away his dagger and, dropping whatever stealth he had (if any), trudges out from behind the hut to stand with the rest of his group. "All right ol' man, you done good." He pulls out a silver from his coin pouch and holds it out towards the goblin. "Now, les see if you can do better. Tell us everything else you know 'bout these grimalkin and mebbe I'll let you have this shiny shekel. When exactly did these undead gobbos start showin' up? How many are there? What d'you know 'bout this faceless giant scrawled across these huts?" At the last question, Lavender points towards the drawings with the silver then waves it in front of the man's face.

Grumpy looks at the shekel with desire. "Well, hmmm.... It was last snow they showed up. This village does some trade with us down in the town. It turns out they ran out of food. It is tough living out here. Around here they talk about a darkness that lurks in the shadows. Some people call him Sha Krom. These pictures are Sha Krom. Scary ain't they? To keep Sha Krom happy we leave small things out on our doorsteps. Bowls of milk, pieces of bread. Seems he keeps mostly to himself. But sometimes he takes things, like pigs or goats or once he took a child. We try to pray to Radhu to keep Sha Krom away. But Radhu does what he likes and sometimes I think he thinks it is funny when we are struggling.

Anyways, last winter all was quiet, but then one night one of the homes gets attacked. We know this cause one of the gobbos living there was in the woods taking a piss. He said he saw a bunch of thin white skinned gobbos come into his house and eat his family. He ran to town. When the town came with him they found nothing of his family. But in the morning they followed the tracks and found this village full of dead gobbos. They looked like they been killing themselves, painting these strange pictures all over themselves. It was bad. There were even children. All dead..."

He looks at the ground. "It was too much. Most people ran away afraid. No one dared come back... until more attacks started to occur. Houses were being attacked. All at night. So we came back here. And we found that all the bodies were gone. No bones, no blood. All gone. Eventually we realized we can stay safe if we don't go out at night and if we lock our doors and shutter our windows. Of course it was too late for my wife. She was an ornery wench but she put up with me." He looks back at the shekel. "Don't know how many there are, some say only one and some say a dozen or more. All I know is nobody dare go down that hole."

Lavender rolls his eyes. "So lemme get this straight; Rabbit-Trickster-God is shirking protection from Faceless-Giant-God, and Carcass-God is sending us on a crazy quest t' destroy undead gobbos who apparently pray t' Faceless-Giant-God... I've had just about enough've the "almighty" gods after our little Ro Ar incident, ya know? Anyways, here ya go ol' man." He hands the shekel over to Grumpy, then reaches into his pouch and pulls out another, tossing it over to him. "And... umm... Sorry 'bout yer ol' lady. Sounds like you two were made fer each other." Scratching the back of his head awkwardly he moves away from Grumpy and pretends to be surveying the area, looking up at the sky and poking his head into the abandoned huts.
OOC:
Does Lavender find anything of interest inside any of the huts? And what time of day is it currently?
Oct 12, 2018 2:14 am
Lavender sees the huts are pretty bare. The people that used to live here were very poor. There are a few clay pots, some blankets, maybe a stone knife.
OOC:
I am assuming you are headed to the hole in the ground.
Grumpy takes the coin then leads you all past a few more stick huts to the hole. It is easy to see how the village was starving over the winter. The ground here is dusty and rocky and there seems to be little water.

Above the large hole in the ground is a stone with more charcoal painting. The ground looks like it has many bare foot prints. There are also many small bits and pieces of clothe and tools laying scattered about. But everything is dry. Not a drop of blood and not a sliver of bone is around.

The tunnel smells terrible. Like rotten flesh. It is dark but you can see that it looks like a natural cave. The walls inside have claw marks. It seems the cave turns left about thirty feet in.
OOC:
If you wish to enter, what is the marching order? How will you all see? Any other preparations you plan to make?
Oct 14, 2018 1:29 am
Daniel cracks his neck, "I'll go first... someone light a torch..."

OOC:
I am busy next two days. Feel free to post amongst yourselves :)

Lavender takes his pack off, kneels, and starts rummaging through it for a moment, grumbling all the while. "Can’t believe... actually goin’... stinking murder hole..." He pulls out a torch and strikes his flint a few times, the torch eventually blazing to life. Throwing his pack back onto his shoulders he holds out the light to Stearvall. "Here ya go, Stearvy. I come prepared, but I operate... out of th’ light. It’d be better for all of us if we get int’ a scrap that I be free t’ dart in n’ outta shadows, ya ken?"

Drawing his dagger once again, Lavender dramatically motions for Stearvall to take second in line.

Murt has watched the exchange from a distance, gradually coming to terms with the concept that this old goblin is not this Undead fellow she was prepared to butcher. She chooses to spit noisily into the dirt, attempting to perhaps make a target out of a beetle or anthill, rather than face the formidable trials of mustering a worthy contribution to the discussion.

"Shut up." Murt grunts in response to Lavender's appeal to strategy, shoving him aside to move past. "You stink like butt rot." She follows Stearvall with her magic sword in hand.

OOC:
Sorry for the break. Next week might also be a bit sporadic but I will try to keep things moving.
Daniel heads into the cave. The torch helps burn away the horrible smell inside but not completely. He is followed by Murt, Stearval and Lavender. As Lavender heads in the old goblin turns and starts hacking away at a wooden hut.

The light of the torch flickers on the walls throwing strange shadows. At one point Lavender sees Stearval's shadow take crow form and it seems to fight with a large dark shadow. Stearval moves his arm and the shadows disappear, their battle unresolved.

The cave is clean of organic material. No bones. No blood. Not rotting corpses. But there are many articles of clothing.

There seems to be only one direction to follow. The cave narrows then widens. It widens and you see a single shaft of light piercing the darkness. The shaft hits a small faceless totem casting a large shadow. Just past the light and shadow you see what looks like three gobos huddling together. They seem to be afraid of the light. You can see their eyes in the dark cave. There is no color, only white. They look up at you all and snarl. They are naked except for rags rotting off of their bodies. Their skin is white like ivory. Not natural for gobos at all.

One of them stands up and runs at you all. It runs into the light. As it does so the flesh smokes then bursts into flames. Only black bits of burned body reach Daniel's feet. The other two see this and run deeper into the cave.

Lavender, thinking quickly, tosses his dagger into his off hand and pulls a javelin from the strap on his backpack. Taking a few steps forward he tosses it into the air and, grabbing it by the handgrip, hurls it towards one of the grimalkin turning to flee.
OOC:
I’m assuming a 4 will miss, lol!
Despite *looking* like he has done this all his life, Lavender grabs the grip awkwardly and the javelin twirls off-center through the air before clattering harmlessly a few yards from the grimalkin in the darkness. He moves his dagger back to his main hand and stands with the shaft of light and totem inbetween himself and the undead, pointedly avoiding eye contact with the others.

I am going to keep the game moving.
As the javelin bounces ineffectively the two small creatures run deeper into the cave. As their the sound of their claws on stone fade. The shadow on the ground starts to flicker and wave... then it speaks, the voice echoing off the cave walls. "Well, well, well and what is it ye be doin' tramplin' and scarin' me good little folk?"
