"I was in hope that perhaps you had a cook among you, but a village will do. What is the next step?" He easily catches the rations.

"Well, we came here to both get an artifact which will help us destroy Strahd, which I think we just found, and also find a cure to a mysterious disease. Only problem, to continue exploring the sub-levels, we need to go through a room which is literally on fire..."

"I would also like to point out, that we found a piece of an artifact. The rest of it may yet still be in there. Now that the creatures are dead, we could perhaps put the fire out and continue the search."

Veroth marvels at how easily the party trusts the newcomer, while his own experience had often lead to immediate mistrust and condemnation. Not that he would complain, he is glad that the too familiar tension is not radiating from everyone

He watches the artifact as well. Could this wreck be the Sun Sword? It is undoubtedly magical, and powerful, to have survived in the furnace for however long.

He continues his vigil.

OOC:
Speaking of putting out the fire, did casting create water during the fight put the flames out or were they magical? Was there an obvious source of the flames?
Jan 19, 2019 12:29 am
OOC:
No, it did not put out the flames. The room is still very much on fire... Considering you caste detect magic earlier, you would have seen the flames are magical.

Mark listens and gives some thought to it, "Well I might be able to put the fire out since it is magical. There is also a way to temporary make a tunnel below the floor and transverse the room as a secondary option if the power of the fire is too strong for me to dispel." "Either way would require me to take to take time and prepare.""

"Veroth can slide through the flame, probably, open the far door, and see what is there. If clear, we run all run through one at a time. Might hurt, but not so bad. If more enemies there? Roland shoots it, yes?"

"So we all run through the fire and hope to not get burned? I'm not too thrilled by that... Isn't there a better way to proceed?"

our new Ally believes he can disenchant the magic flames. Let him try.

"I just need to rest a while and prepare myself." He adds in.

Veroth nods and haunts the stairway, resting and guarding the entrance.

GeneCortess, are you planning to just use dispel magic? I also have that spell and maybe we can work together to put out the flames?
Jan 22, 2019 7:01 pm
Thinking to use dispel magic or use Pit spell a few times and some rope to bypass the room temporary.
Jan 23, 2019 5:02 pm
I don't have pit but I could also prepare dispel magic. If we cast it together we should have a better chance of removing the fire.

I wonder if there is a rule there about aiding to make it more effective.

OOC:
I haven't seen anything about the aid another rules which says it does not apply to caster level checks, but then again, I have not seen anything which specifically states it does either...
Jan 24, 2019 2:10 pm
OOC:
The common consensus I see is that Aid Another applies to AC, attack rolls, or skill checks only. But allowing 2+ people to cast the same spell in order to gain bonuses is pretty sweet

OOC:
not directly relevant to the game, but we see it in pop culture references alot. Multiple witches or wizards working together in a ritual to make more powerful magic. I don't see any game mechanics for it, but it's a pretty cool idea.

OOC:
Yeah. I don't think it's part of the rules (as written or intended for that matter), but I'm tempted to allow it because it makes so much sense.
