OOC:
As a reminder, when posting in campaign, post as your character so we get a visual of who is talking. Along those lines, if you don't have an image associated with your character, please do so.

Julian
The cave looks like at one time it held a wild animal of some sort, perhaps a bear or pack of wolves, but it does not look as if anyone or anything has used it for quite some time. As for stability, it definitely looks solid, being of stone with a dirty, stone floor.

OOC:
So to be clear, there are 9 of us, each with a mount so 18 creatures total? How far is the cave from where I last left the party? It occurs to me now that teleportation wouldn't be able to move so many creatures about, unless a pair of mounted creature counts as 1 creature for that spell. Might have to stealth our way to it rather than just teleporting the party myself.

OOC:

Correct, there are 6 PCs and 3 retainers with Korgazhar. Same answer to the mounts. As far as distance, the cave is about 2 miles from the party, and a mile from the steading. As for the mounts, they count as 'one willing creature'.

Having gathered the information and samples necessary to execute his plan, Julian takes on the form of an eagle yet again and spreads his wings to the skies, soaring towards where he last left the rest of the party.
OOC:
The following presumes nothing happens on his way back. Adding a stealth check, though I don't imagine there's too many things that would find an eagle conspicuous. Edit, stealth should be +2 not +4. My bad.
Upon finding the rest of the group, he reverts to his human form. Taking count of the group members yet again to be sure of their numbers, he proceeds to describe his plan. "I have found us a place to camp, but we are far to large to sneak the distance. Better to travel there in a single step than walk these hills. Better to not risk encountering the giants." He pauses for a brief moment before continuing with "We will make two trips. I will transport four of you and your mounts, in addition to myself. I will return again as an eagle, then transport another four men and four mounts. We will arrive quickly and safely this way. Those of you who bothered to count will know this leaves one mount or man uncounted. I will grant Legeia, my pegasus, the form of a bird, that she might meet us there covertly. It is no risk if she does not, as Alain's magic can simply be used to conjure another." He waits a moment for the plan to sink in. "What say you? Who will I take first?"

If we are assuming that Alain's ring gave everyone their own mount via Find Greater Steed, in the course of the past two weeks, then we can simply assume that for RP purposes, the PCs can all fly via pegasi or griffons etc to the cave, and the Julian's giant eagle form can simply transport the mounts. If not, then -
"Question. Which way is this cave? You can transport the first few, the rest will head that direction until you return for us. Standing out here in the open and waiting risks discovery." Korgazhar remounted his steed and made ready to move again in the direction Julian indicated. "We still must know the overland route to the base camp."

OOC:
The whole idea is actually just to teleport myself and eight others, fly back as a bird alone, tell my pegasus where to go before polymorphing it into a bird, then teleporting myself and the rest of the party. Doing this instead of walking/flying is more covert. Don't want to be seen sneaking into the cave.

OOC:
Sure thing! It's just in character Korgazhar didn't assume Julian was talking about teleportation, since he was flying.
Jan 12, 2019 5:18 am
For a moment, Julian fails to understand the half-orc's confusion, then clarifies upon recognizing the misunderstanding. "I mean to teleport us, not fly. Many of us flying to the cave may draw attention. Teleportation will be safer."
Jan 12, 2019 6:04 am
Korgazhar nodded at Julian's explanation. Teleportation was in this instance the most discreet means of travel. "Effective. It will keep us out of sight and prevent them from discovering our camp." The half-orc evaluated the tactical options further. "Contingency. Still need to know the overland route, for when we don't have access to your teleportation."
OOC:
My bad in linking two separate questions. Apart from the travel options, I also wanted to clarify if the entire party had special steeds.

Ælfric nodded his head and raised his hand to volunteer for the first group.
OOC:
Ælfric has a griffon but I was unsure of exactly how we would be utilizing them at the moment so I haven't mentioned it.

She is 5'10" tall and running around 182#. She has black eyes and long unkept black hair with a tan complexion. She rather average looking for a human female. Currently wearing rather quiet mithril half-place and shield. You all know she has a flaming longsword and why she is frequently called "Flaming Fernal". You all know also that she runs as fast as a horse (50'). She is very much a barbarian and touch uncivilized. She has rather poor manors. She has said she very much hates giants and is a friend to Dwarves. Yes she speaks both Dwarven and Giant. Besides her flaming longsword, she might use a longbow for distance. She survives just fine in the wilds and long since left her tribe. She makes a fine scout as she moves rather quietly, but she can not see in the dark. She is also noted to have quite good vision and doesn't miss much. She tends to be rather inverted and isn't one good for chat. She most likely to attack most anything head on unless she gets chance to strike with cover. She does not own a horse.

Alain listens to Julian's plan and nods in agreement.
Alain says:
"While I would prefer to fly across the skies on our mounts, I agree with Julian, teleportation will be safer. I will go in the second trip. We should keep the spell casters separate, in case we are ambushed while split. There is a song from Keoland which tells the tale of just such a situation..."
Alain begins to go off in a tangent, recounting the song and it's history, until someone cuts him off.
OOC:
Someone cut him off please.

GeneCortess, are you sure you don't want a mount for Fernal?

Fernal will take a summoned one as to keep up with the party. Riding horses do 60'.. .. Fernal can only manage up to 50'

Julian interrupts Alain's tangent with "Yes, yes, Alain. Write it down and I'll read it later.", knowing full well that he likely wouldn't. The bard had made a fair point, though he found the likelihood of an ambush at either end of the journey unlikely. The cave was well concealed, and their position atop the hill afforded them a fair view of their surroundings; however, the area around the cave was less well explored, and had the potential to be more dangerous. Julian makes another judgment call. "I will first take Ælfric, One of Korgazhar's men, Gurtrek, their mounts, Fernal who is horseless, and Ligeia. I trust Alain, Korgazhar, and his remaining men will not draw attention to themselves in the meantime." Once everyone has agreed to the plan, Julian will teleport the first group to the cave. He will also explain the cave's location in as much detail possible in the event someone needs that information.
OOC:
@DM: I have an object associated with the cave in the form of rock chippings gathered from the cave wall, so there should be no chance of failure... I hope... I'll include the d100 roll in the event you rule differently. After bringing the first group, I'll fly back to the remaining group as an normal eagle (I haven't been a giant eagle any of these times, to clarify), using polymorph a third time. I will then teleport the remainder of the group. Since Fernal has no mount, this should be sufficient to get all creatures in the party to the cave.

@Fernal & Alian: Can we summon that mount for Fernal when we get to the cave, so I don't have to perform more shenanigans with teleport?

Gurtrek

Gurtrek listened to the conversation all the while humming a deep dwarven marching tune on endless repeat. The tones growing darker as the conversation comes to teleportation.

"Always them bloody mages. Telepor-damn-tation, ghrmhm. Why I split me legs over this bloody horse then for the last few days. Soon enough riding will be just for us bums oi? You folk got a fancy solution for everything that once required honest work. Blood, sweat and tears replaced by finger snapping and…"

He rambled in an off-handed tone, too loud not to pay attention to, but to much in line with his usual grumpy mumbling to pay heed.

"Sure I will be in the first group! The test-subjects oi?"

For good measure Gurtrek took a good sip of one of his concoctions that he was surprised to already find in hand.

"Don’t want to find me-self somewhere halfway across the world ye hear? Let’ s get this over with…"

"You are right mister Dwur. We'd be far better off without labours of the mind such as these." Julian taps the helm through which he channels his teleportation magic as he continues his sarcastic reply "Better were the days before magic, before horses. Before iron, houses, and alchohol. Perhaps someday I'll find a way to return you to those golden ages you love so much" he says, grinning widely. "For now though, we'll take advantage of what we have."

OOC: What is the climate like where we are? Should we be investing in heavy clothing? My string bikini is not doing it.

Fernal asks harmlessly "So did anyone bring a keg of something strong or are we going to be doing this dry. And do we have a cook or is it going to be rations every day besides what ever I drum up out these lands."

Looking over to Julian, "Not leaving me in some wall or something. Heard bad tales of people transported this way."

"No chance of that, Miss Fernal. I have taken the necessary precautions to insure us a safe journey."
