...Where The Company of Heroes Gather and Bond

Describing the scene to the group even as he draws it out on paper, he mentions the tower and its watchman in particular. If he can't teleport them where they need to be, they'll need a solution to deal with him quietly.

Reaching out yet again to control the eye of ether, he extends his senses down through one of the chimneys. Small though they may be, the immaterial yet material form of his eye is smaller still.

Korgazhar kept his activity to a minimum so as not to distract Julian from his magical scrying.
OOC:
No actions DM, until the scrying is done.

OOC:
Sorry, I should have asked this sooner, but which chimney are you wanting to go down? They are visible on the map.
Jan 15, 2019 9:29 pm
Slipping quickly down the first chimney, you find yourself in some sort of a sleeping quarters. Mounted on the walls of this room are various trophies (heads, antlers, and skins, etc.) making the otherwise damp and droll room feel more 'lived in'.

You see various giant-sized furnishings, including three giant-sized beds heaped with furs and a locked wooden chest. There is a door in the north wall, but it is closed. However, if you wish, you can exit the room under the door, as it is not sealed along the bottom.
OOC:
About a minute to scry and map this 30x60 foot room. And yes, I intend to allow you to scry room by room if you wish. :D

Julian's arcane eye flies through the room. Taking a brief moment to record its layout on his map, he then sends it through the gap beneath the western door.

OOC:
Will keep a running tab of what the map looks like. Double check this if you would, please, DM. I'm perfectly content to scry room by room, though I wouldn't be opposed to you hurrying things along by presuming I map the whole map, or as much of a map as I can obtain in 42 minutes. Maybe make a series of skill checks (investigation?). I don't want to hog the spotlight for the next two weeks just scrying. Don't want to bore everyone else. Up to you though. :)

Yeah, I went through and best-guestimated, and it takes you roughly 3 hours to work your way through the steading.
Julian
Working methodically through the layout of the steading, you get what you feel is a solid, accurate map of the place. By your count there must be over thirty giants, plus their ogre and orc servants and one rather large bear that sits at Nosnra's side.

The central hall is filled with giants feasting, as apparently they have a guest. A stone giant sits at the table with Nosnra and his queen, and it seems they are throwing the visitor a party. A pair of dwarves, still alive, are spit over a large fire pit, getting slowly roasted by an ogre turning the hand crank.

I'm presuming the 3 hours includes travel time when I have to recast arcane eye, considering it only last 1 hour. So that's 3 castings total, or 4? I can do up to 4, considering casting it at 5th refills a 4th level slot and whatnot. Up to you.

I have only a couple of questions. 1: what kind of giants do I see? You mentioned one was a stone giant. Is it just stone and hill, or all types. 2: how many servants are we looking at? Tens, hundreds? I also presume they don't look happy to be there? 3: how long would I guess those dwarves have to live? (I won't mention their existence to the party yet). 4: is there an upstairs, and if so, have I scouted it?

OOC:

1. All hill giants, except the stone giant seated at the king's table
2. Dozens of servants. You have no idea if they are happy, but there are a few giants in the feast hall that push them around.
3. The dwarves don't look long for this world
4. No upstairs that you saw. The ceiling in the feast hall soared high overhead, perhaps 30' - 40' or so.

Can you tell me what this is in more detail?

Two cents' worth, I'm assuming that's the staircase to the tower. The upper level of the tower is pictured diagonally below it. :)

That... Makes a lot of sense actually... Kinda disappointing I didn't put two and two together. XD

TO be fair, you DO have a 'little' eye being used in your recon.... :D

I guess the only other question I have for now is where ThisMk2 leads.

Having spent the last three hours scrying upon the giant steading, Julian fights off the waves of exhaustion the continual use of his more powerful spells always brought. It was true that he had gotten used to the physical and mental strains that divination magic placed upon its user; however, he'd still expended much of his available power for the day, and would likely need a rest to function at full effectiveness once again. Fortunately, it was already nightfall, and he doubted the others wished to attack the giants after the long day of travel.

"It is done. The map has been made. Our enemies have been scouted, and there are many. Now is the time to plan our attack."

He had his own ideas about how the party should best go about this, but remained silent on that front. He'd explained to them all he'd seen, the number and location of the giants, the servants, the stone giant who seemed to lead the others. He'd left out nothing but the dwarves. They were good as dead anyway, and the Dwur among them might be inclined to do something foolish if he learned his kin were in danger. There was nothing that could be done for them, better not to burden the others with their death.

Ælfric pointed to the blank space in the center of the map.

"I noticed it too, Ælfric. Though I investigated the area thoroughly, I could not find an entrance to any sort of room. I must presume the area is designed for structural support, or otherwise there is some secret entrance that my vision alone could not uncover. Before we rest tonight, I will see if I can learn more about this." he pauses for a moment before addressing the rest of the party. "It is important that we remember our goal. Some individual, force, or entity is banding together the hill, stone, and even frost giants. Our assignment was simply to investigate the giants and determine their strength of number, as well as who is guiding these attacks; however, I would have us do more. We will pacify this threat that brings them together, whatever it may be. This close cooperation and coordination between the races of giants threatens far more than just the March of Sterich. Left unchecked, this could have far flung consequences throughout Oerik. Consequences I would rather avoid, if at all possible. We should not try to eliminate every giant we encounter. That would be foolishness. Instead, we should eliminate those that lead them, and do so as efficiently as possible."

Did I have time to map whatever's down there, or nah? I guess that's my real question.

No, you just managed to finish the upper level. You are aware of the lower level, and saw some of the servants coming up and down (as well as a giant), but you didn't get time to do more than note its existence.
