Mengus goes and stands next to lady Argus "i was joking can't you take a joke"
Jul 23, 2019 3:36 pm
"Understood, time passes, let's move." Tronus acknowledges before commenting to the others. Once leaving the room he grabs his gear just in case. Once suited he'll wait for the others to see where everyone's headed before they meet up to see the client.
OOC:
Sounds good I figure a bit of leg work before we talk to the employer to get a better handle of some details might be helpful which is why I suggested it.
Jul 23, 2019 5:12 pm
"I should still have some contacts at the constabulary. If there are no objections, I'd like to lead the investigation there. Anyone else is more than welcome to come."
Jul 23, 2019 7:33 pm
Nekkur follows up from Lady Argus suggesting "If we have four hours, then I believe we should split. There's a lot of leads to follow and the more information we present Lady Dribbage with, the better our changes of impressing a client." The half-catfolk throws six coins on the table and looks at them careful.
[ +- ] Pairing coins
"I'd suggest that Barvek should take Nera to look around the Lower City for some rumors on this burglary. Tronus can go with Hildar the the constabulary to check what the official records are, while I take Mengus to the Library or the Church of St. Durbin to find what we can about the property. We should all meet at the house itself in ... two hours the latest?

"You just let..." Nera flicks her paws as if she's flipping a coin. "That determine what we should do?" Her voice is a split between confusion and intrigue at such a peculiar method of deciding.
Jul 23, 2019 11:57 pm
Barvek shrugs at Nera, "'Tis what he does. You should see how he "worships" his goddess. I lost a lot of money last time we went "worshiping" together." He turns to face Nekurr. "Having been with the city guard for thirty years, I think I should be able to handle that. However, I have one concern with your plan." Barvek tilts his head at Tronus and says a bit under his breath, "I'm not overly confident in that one's interpersonal skills." He says a bit louder, "If everyone thinks they can handle those assignments, I say we best get going."

Lady Argus puts a hand on Mengus's elbow. "Sorry, Mengus. I'm a bit frazzled right now with all this talk of bandits in the Thelsvan Plains." She sighs and takes another sip of water. "Before I go... No one asked, but Lady Dribbage has already payed my administrative fees. She'll pay 900 silver more if her uncle can be found and returned home safely; that's your cut, of course. If Vizeron Dribbage is... not in this world any longer, though, bring proof of it, and she'll pay the same." The lady looks down to the floor for a moment, then back to you. "Let's hope it hasn't come to that."

Lady Argus folds up her fan and stands from the table. "Now forgive me; I have to return to the mayor's office. But I trust you'll find this Vizeron Dribbage in no time." With a slight bow, the lady crosses the room and leaves as quickly as she came.
OOC:
Thanks for the summary, CESN! So, if I get the assignments correctly, it looks like we're hitting up three locations to start: 1) Barvek and someone to the constabulary; 2) Nekurr and Mengus to the library or the church; 3) Nera and someone else to the Lower City. Mcneils5 is on holiday this week, so he's unable to have Hildar express his preference. So, Remnant, why don't you have Tronus pick between the constables and the slums, and we'll have Hildar go to the other location. If Mcneils thinks Hildar would have gone elsewhere, we can always retcon.
Jul 24, 2019 1:44 am
"You're the old hat with the Costabulary Mister Narvek so I'll leave you to it, Mister Hildar looks like he'd be useful with sorting reports one can't dismiss the grunt work behind filing and reviewing paperwork; finding details most overlook. I'll do just fine using words... come Miss Nera we'll discuss our thoughts on our approach on the way. You've likely a thing or two to teach me with your perspective and skillset..."
Jul 24, 2019 1:51 am
"That's alot of silver... Nera is motivated to try her best with the case.

Standing up she checks her bag to ensure all supplies are accounted for. "We will not be late. I will lead us Tronus, and you can serve as the watchful protector, or muscle if need be. Someone may mistake you for an elde-...easy mark."

OOC:
ahah, that must have been recently since I started with only 9gp :)
"Well, tough luck if you don't trust my coins" Nekkur signs and shrugs at their lack of faith. "Mengus, shall we check on those church records? I'm intrigued about this land donation...".
OOC:
Off he goes!

With plans made, you weave your way through the side streets of the Middle City until you reach the Procession Road, Nornholt's main thoroughfare. The heat is much worse in the direct sunlight, so you do your best to stick to the shade of building overhangs. At the main road, you split into three pairs to cover more ground before your rendezvous with Olarie Dribbage: Nekurr, Mengus, Hildar, and Barvek turn west, while Nera and Tronus go east toward the Lower City.

The four of you heading west dodge chickens and horse carts until you reach the Fauton Gate that opens into the Upper City. Passing through, the traffic continues, but the buildings grow appreciably more opulent. Sticking to the shade costs you a bit of time, but after about a twenty-five-minute walk, you reach Nornholt's Central Plaza, the town's nerve center and administrative nexus.
[ +- ] Travel Options
Mengus & Nekurr
[ +- ] Cathedral Image
Mengus and Nekurr have little trouble finding Saint Durvin's Cathedral: The whitewashed walls of the cathedral tower higher than any other structure in Nornholt, and the blue-green tiles of the dual-domed roof reflect the morning sun and remind you of how hot you are. You notice a handful of supplicants flowing into and out of the main sanctuary, either seeking the blessing of Nornholt's patron deity or just some refuge from the unrelenting sun. You also spot one of the resident monks entering the structure through a smaller side entrance.
OOC:
So, how do you two want to proceed? What's the general plan?
Barvek & Hildar
[ +- ] Guardhouse
A short distance away, Hildar has to nearly jog to keep up with Barvek, whose familiarity with this area compensates for his shorter strides. Barvek, you know the guardhouse well; the wood-and-stone structure serves as both the headquarters for Nornholt's city watch and constabulary, as well as the common area of the barracks where many of the guards live. You have mixed feelings about being back here, Barvek--after decades as a city guardsman, you're now an outsider, at least in part. You sop the sweat from your brow with a handkerchief as you decide what to do.
OOC:
What's the plan, you two?
Nera & Tronus
[ +- ] Lower City
After your four colleagues leave for parts west, Tronus and Nera, you two turn eastward for decidedly downmarket digs. You soon reach the Damar Gate, the portal from the bustle of the Middle City into the slums of the Lower City. Two guards hunch in the shade of the gate and eye you carefully as you pass through, no doubt curious what business a Dwarf and a Catfolk have in this part of town. You know that the gate remains open until sunset, when it closes to keep out the crime for which the Lower City is notorious.

The security checkpoint only slows you slightly, so within ten minutes, you're at the edge of the district. The scenery changes. The horse carts and wagons move more quickly, as if their drivers are worried someone might hop on uninvited. And while there are a few permanent structures along the Procession Road, you see that most of what passes for architecture here is little more than shacks and shanties.

Children, chickens, goats, and washerwomen alike move from one source of shade to another, dodging mud puddles as they do so. Meanwhile, beggars and itinerant merchants ignores the heat as they panhandle and hawk their wares. You can only imagine what other sorts of things are going on in the darker alleyways beyond immediate view.
OOC:
What's the plan for you two?
Jul 24, 2019 4:59 pm
Nekurr will take notice of the small side entrance the monk used for latter reference, but will go inside the main gate and ask around for the church property and transactions records section from the Nornholt Library. Make a couple of questions to the librarian about the cemetery at the Dribbage's land and if anyone knows how that family is connected to the church. Basically, Nekurr will start by focusing on when and how the deal was made and what's the connection between the Dribbages and the church.
OOC:
I'll then use that info for the next step. No story points for now :D
The approach is mostly talking with the monks, with some quick reading to select relevant documents

During the travel into the lower city Nera appears to be...humming? It's hard to tell, but she doesn't seem to be fazed by the poverty-stricken streets the two now walk. "Tell me Tronus, shall we ask the beggars and hobos? Or would you prefer the scant few shops which operate in the area, ooo how about a seedy tavern?" Her questions are earnest, but she doesn't hide her joy at being able to "teach" someone.
Jul 24, 2019 6:09 pm
"so nekkurr how are you?"
Jul 24, 2019 9:08 pm
Tronus runs a hand through his moustache his jaw set. "So if you were a thief and you've up and stole something after the burglary if you came to Lower City, is a good place to lay low for a bit? You could either be waiting on a fence to sell or a third party buy for what you stole and payment. What would beggars be able to tell use versus the Hobos? Would the shops sell something stolen possibly would they know? And the seedy tavern what is the cost coin or clout to get information? Would they try and sell us the fact they know nothing and have a good laugh? Explain it to me like I don't know the ins and outs of being in such an environment... Fear not much like Mr Barvek implied I understand ways of violence so we can skip that." he states looking to Nera to break it down to him.

"Also extra points if you can figure out where we could hear tale about the escaped Brigand..." he adds.

OOC:
Small clarification: Nornholt has a city library (toward the lower-right corner of the Upper City), but this is distinct from the Cathedral of St. Durvin. So, yes, you're looking for the order's records rather than the library's. There are no librarians on staff, just monks, priests, clerics, and the like.

So, with that in mind, I understand the thrust of your questions, but can you tell me what your initial approach is? I mean, are you just asking nicely? Is Nekurr playing up his own priesthood at all? Are you playing up your connection to Argus Inquiries? Do you try to lie to get access to the records? Is either one of you trying to order anyone around? In short, what's your initial approach?
OOC:
Edited to add: If you'd like, you could try a Hard (PPP) Knowledge (Lore) check with two boost dice (blues) to see what the best approach might be. The boosts are because you're working together (so an assist), and because you're presumably familiar with St. Durvin. This would be Mengus's roll, so you'd roll Green Green Yellow (for Intellect 3, Knowledge [Lore] 1) + Blue Blue (for the boosts) + Purple Purple Purple (for the difficulty).

OOC:
@somebox & @Remnant : Presumably, you're going to want to make a Streetwise check to determine the best person or establishment to approach for information on the burglary. Difficulty is Average (PP).* Add one setback if you plan to try to be discreet at all. Take one boost for presumed familiarity with the Lower City. Tronus's prodding questions are good for a second boost die.
OOC:
*I will often abbreviate difficulties by giving the initials of the colors of the dice you'll use. For instance, PP means two difficulty die, which are "purple purple."

"Yes. Beggars usually want money upfront. Yes and depending on the shop. Taverns are based on the patrons. To you absolutely."
Nera answers his questions sequentially, using expressive head-shakes and body language as she considers each query.

"You just need to know who has connections, who does business with who, who can gather information, who you can go to for that info without taking a risk. We'll probably start with hobos and try a shop or two, or maybe we should..." Nera does her best to educate and reassure Tronus, already prowling for an informant.
OOC:
I will take that setback. With that advantage perhaps Nera can find someone quickly and witness some buffoon making a textbook mistake which she will can point out to Tronus?

Barvek explains to Hildar as his short legs move in a quick rhythm, "All right, so I have only been out of the guard for about five years. I should still have a few contacts there. We'll talk to them and see if they'll give us the story. Maybe we can even convince them to let us see the official report." He pauses with a welcoming look, "I am open to any suggestions though."
