OOC:
It's gotten pretty quiet here. I'll wrap up the conversation with Olarie Dribbage soon. Even if there's more you'd like to ask, we risk losing momentum if we wait too long before progressing the scenario.

Please remember that even if you don't have much to contribute to a scene, it's always appreciated if you post something to let me know you're still following the game!

"Sounds like we should talk to that neighbor then." Barvek takes one more sip of tea. "Lady Dribbage, is there anyone else who may have known your uncle that we could talk to? Otherwise I think it best that we examine your uncle's office. I do think this burglary could be related to his disappearance."
Aug 16, 2019 2:06 am
Lady Dribbage leans the portrait against the wall and nods at Barvek's suggestion. "Yes, I wish I could tell you more about Uncle Vizzy. The sad truth is we just weren't that close." She pauses for a moment, as if in thought. "I supposed you should speak to the Thistlerocks. Just... maybe... don't tell them that I've hired you..." She blushes but then regains her composure. "So, the study! Yes, you should definitely see it. It's where my uncle kept most of his stuff, and I haven't really touched it." She gestures toward the closed door. "Shall we?"
OOC:
If you want to press her about the Thistlerocks, you'll get two boosts (you've been very friendly and complimented her taste in tea, and you are trying to find her uncle), but also two setbacks (for reasons that may become clear if the roll succeeds).

Charm will be vs. RPPKK
Leadership will be vs. PPKK
Deception will be vs. PPKK

I doubt you'll want to use Coercion, but if so, it's vs. PPKK.

All with 2 boosts. A third boost if you tag-team her.

"Come now Lady Olaire, you are among professionals yes, but also friends. We assure you, all information is kept between us." Nera practically purs as she lets loose her temptatious words, hoping to entice the eager gal.
OOC:
Which dice is 'K'? I assume it's the setback die but I'm not 100%.

Assuming it is so I'll use the three advantage to whisk away any doubt Olaire might have in the group's intentions for as long as possible.
OOC:
GM note: We can ignore the first two dice and treat this as a Charm check if you wish. Result would be 3 Success.

Nekurr puts down the empty cup of tea on top of a box and get's ready to follow Olarie. He tries to get closer to Barvek and whisper "Didn't your friend at the constabulary say something about the neighbours?"

OOC:
I was stalling since steef99 hasn't posted in case they wanted to add something unsure though if they've had time to look through the thread.
Tronus watches the others and listens to the lines of discussion and new paths to investigate.

OOC:
Somebox, Nera's approach above reads more like Charm to me. She's appealing to Lady Dribbage's better nature. If you want to use Deception, can you edit the post to change your approach to actually involve a lie? That might be something like, "Oh, don't worry, we've already spoken to the neighbors." Otherwise, you'll need to re-roll the positive dice to reflect Nera's Charm skill (or bare Presence).

As for steef99, I'm not sure he's still playing. I'll reach out to him to see what's going on. But let's not let one player's absence rob us of momentum! :)

OOC:

OOC:
On second thought, we can go with Nera's roll if you prefer, somebox. Ignoring the first two dice and treating it as a Charm check works and still passes. I'll leave it to you whether you want to reroll the whole thing as Deception, coupled with a more duplicitous angle.

Also, yes, K is black. Trying to avoid confusion between Blue and Black in the same dice pool.

"Lady Olarie can you tell about you're uncle disappearing?"
Aug 16, 2019 7:48 pm
OOC:
Damn I knew this would happen! And yet I tried it anyway! Okay Savagebob swapping to charm works for me.
Aug 16, 2019 7:49 pm
steef99 says:
"Lady Olarie can you tell about you're uncle disappearing?"
OOC:
We're actually wrapping this scene up, steef, but we can use this as an opportunity to recap what you've learned:
"Sorry, Lord Mengus, but I've told you pretty much everything I know." She gives you an apologetic smile. "As I said, the neighbors sent word to my mother and me in Tamalir a few days ago. Gallen Thistlerock says he hasn't seen Uncle Vizzy for several weeks, so he thought we should know. I came up to check on my uncle and found the place abandoned. I haven't seen Uncle Vizzy in years, so I can't give you much information about his daily routine or any of that. All I know is that he lived in this house until he became a cleric of some kind. When he left the order, he moved back in." She thinks for a moment and adds, "I came to Argus Inquiries for help when I started to wonder if something awful had happened to Uncle Vizzy. I hope he's all right, but my family also needs to look after our family property."
OOC:
We'll move on shortly now that somebox has replied!
Aug 17, 2019 12:22 am
Barvek sets down his empty cup and stands up. "I understand Lady Dribbage. Don't worry, we'll do our best to find your uncle. What do you say we take a look at that study? Perhaps it will yield some clues as to where your uncle may have gone."
Aug 17, 2019 1:37 am
Olarie Dribbage nods to Barvek. Then she looks to Nera and blushes. "Before we see the study... The reason I told you to tread lightly with the neighbors is because Gallen Thistlerock proposed to me a few days back. Can you imagine? He was always such a bully to me when we were children!" She takes a deep breath. "So maybe don't mention you're working for me if you talk to him."

The lady gestures toward the locked door nearby. "But enough of my love life. Let me show you to the study." She unlocks the oaken door, which swings open with a moan that suggests its age. The room that lies beyond contains an impressive collection of bookshelves, most of them quite full. A solid, wooden desk sits at the far end of the room near a window that looks out onto the cemetery. A few busts and similar artworks give the place a distinguished air.
[ +- ] Vizeron Dribbage's Study
"I think the burglar came in through that window," Lady Dribbage says. "Feel free to look around. I've hardly been in here at all. Just please don't break anything..." And with that, she leaves the room. You hear her voice from the next room: "If you need anything, I'll be in the kitchens!"
Aug 17, 2019 9:27 am
OOC:
I suppose I'll start with a general mundane look around for anything that looks out of place (since I did not detect the powerful magic in the room... ) what would be the roll for that?
Aug 17, 2019 2:52 pm
OOC:
No roll required: Everything looks normal on a casual glance. To get more, I suggest you check individual things in the room, either individually or in pairs.

Let's assume a default of 15 minutes spent checking over one item. Reduce difficulty by 1 (remove a P) for each 15 minutes you spend beyond that on a single area.

1) The floor. Average (PP) Perception check.
2) The window. Easy (P) Perception check.
2) The desk. Easy (P) Perception check.
3) The shelves. Daunting (PPPP) Perception check for all of them. Average (PP) Pwrception check to do just one. There are six total.
4) The artworks. Easy (P) Perception check for just one piece. There is a bust, a faberge egg kind of thing, and a painting on the wall.
5) You can always cast a detect-magic spell again. Will just be Easy (P) to cover the whole room. Costs 2 strain.

If you pair up on a single area, you get the benefit of assistance. (Either combine one character's Cunning with another character's Perception ranks, or the better Perception character gets a Boost from the other character's help.)

It's late afternoon now; you estimate sunset is in about 2 hours.

Some of you may want to use this time to discuss what you think about Olarie Dribbage, too.
Aug 18, 2019 5:35 pm
Nera waits until Olaire leaves before voicing her opinions. "You'd think someone would bother to clean up this room what with all that money they have." She stares at her newly cobweb adorned hand from merely running her hand along a shelf, looking a bit peeved at the room's condition. Wiping it against her clothing she begins to inspect the shelves contents, her eyes moving back and forth as she scans rows and rows of books or curios. "The young miss is certainly...curious. Like a child who one day sprouted into an adult."
OOC:
I shall tackle the daunting shelves. Remember everyone (assuming they are within short range) gets a boost to perception and those in engaged get 2 boosts.

Oh boy what a roll. I'll use the triumph to find a hot item or lead.

Rolls

Daunting Perception

5 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Triumph, 1 Failure, 3 Threat

Total: 4 Success, 2 Threat, 1 Triumph

Aug 18, 2019 7:18 pm
Nera makes a quick scan of all six shelves, drawing upon her expertise at spotting things out of place, an instinct honed over too many years of life on the fringe. As she searches each shelf in turn, she gets the impression that none of them holds any secret doors, latches, or the like. The books and scrolls are organized by subject. Most of the shelves, she notes, are completely full, with books from one end of the shelf to the other and no gaps. However, one of the middle shelves seems to have some books missing.

As the Catfolk looks more closely, she notices something strange: Someone has tracked dirt into the study, with a clear footprint right below the gap in the bookshelf. As she bends to look closer, though, Nera accidentally bumps into a pedestal holding an ornate, sculpted egg. The marble stand wobbles just enough to send the egg falling toward the ground...
OOC:
Excellent roll! Triumph gave you the footprint. Threats gave you the bumped pedestal! One PC may attempt an Average (PP) Athletics or Coordination check--with a setback (K) for surprise--to catch the egg before it hits the floor (this can be anyone, including Nera). I'll upgrade this with a Story Point, so you'll roll against RPK.

People should feel free to search other areas, as well. I imagine you'd have hit at least two other areas during the time Nera was sweeping the shelves.
Aug 18, 2019 10:05 pm
"It's good that she didn't, Nera. It might have ruined any traces of the break-in if they did clean the room." Barvek decides to examine the window where the intruder would have first come in.
OOC:
That's a lot of advantages. Um perhaps Barvek managed to notice the precarious positioning of Nera and the egg and would get an upgrade on his check to catch the egg? Assuming that's about 3 advantage, maybe the rest can help him figure out how the intruder was approaching the search of the room. Was it more direct or were they in the room looking around a while?

Rolls

Examining the window

2 Success, 6 Advantage

Total: 2 Success, 6 Advantage

Aug 19, 2019 3:06 am
OOC:
The only way to upgrade would be a SP or a Triumph. But that is a lot of advantage! Let's say Barvek's position puts him (or someone else) in a good position to catch the egg; whoever tries to catch it thus gets 2 boosts to the check (accounting for 2 of the advantage).

With the other 4 advantage, sure; we'll have Barvek notice something about the intruder's path.
Barvek carefully inspects the window, running his fingers along the windowsill, tapping on the panes of glass, and testing the latch. Everything seems intact. But the latch seems very simple, just a bar that sits on a hinge. It would be quite easy to jimmy open from the outside with just a piece of wire or even a thin twig. The window looks out directly onto the cemetery, with only a drop of about three feet to the grounds below. In short, it would have been quite easy for someone to come in and out this way.

Even more tantalizing, the former guardsman notices several dirty footprint like the ones Nera noticed over by the shelf.
