[IC] Graveyard Shift: Session 1

As Barvek seems to be taking the lead Hildar stays quiet behind him, quietly muttering a charm incantation over him.
OOC:
Going to try slapping an Augment onto Barvek to help with their check but wanting to be discrete. Any amendments to the difficulty on the check?

"So I have heard. The Thistlerocks endure, even in these cursed lands. After the third darkness only the most tenacious would stay on these lands. But Fortuna smiles on those who endures."
OOC:
I'm trying to ease out playing on both the weakness (i know the land is not producing so you must be in bad shape) and praising their residence. Can I use Deep pockets to get a small statue of Fortuna, but implying the Trickery side of her? It is now clear that they are trying to trick Lady Dribbage into getting her graveyard. A small hope of luck through trickery may be just what they are looking for :D
OOC:
GM edit: appealing to a Fear grants +2 boosts, so the total here is +3 (1 for their Strength, 2 for their Fear). Final tally is 2 Success, no Threat or Advantage.

Mcneils5: Arcana doesn't get access to Augment, actually. Do you want to Curse one of them instead? Base difficulty for a basic Curse would be PP, but you could do PPPP if you want to try to get two of them for the price of one.

If you want to use your wand, this is essentially a combined Skullduggery/Arcana check. Roll based on the lower of your Cunning and Intellect, paired with the lower of your Skullduggery and Intellect. I assume for you, you'll basically make a Cunning/Skullduggery check versus the Augment difficulty you're looking at. If you try without your wand, just add two setbacks to a regular Arcana check.

CESN: Let's hold off on your action for now. We can revisit it (and keep your roll) depending on how Barvek's Charm check shakes out. Need to resolve that first!

arMedBeta: Your difficulty remains the same as I quoted above.

OOC:
Ack, damn forgot about that. No Hildar will just observe for the moment, seems a bit too risky to try putting the whammy on the Thistlerocks. Let's just say for the moment he's holding himself ready to cast something more energetic if things take a bad turn

Barvek grins.

The skinny kid's eyes widen as the older Gnome approaches. "Stop!" he says. "You're clearly a strong-willed person. But now is not a good time. Please get your team to leave." He glances at the bearded man you assume is Gallen Thistlerock. The older man glowers.
OOC:
Used the 2 threat to ascertain Barvek's Strength. Boost for appealing to it. Barvek suffers 5 Strain (one for the failed check, 3 for being successfully charmed here). Will use 2 advantage to guess his flaw.

Charm check vs. Barvek

4 Success, 2 Advantage, 2 Failure

OOC:
Let's assume Nekurr's pitch goes here.
CESN says:
"So I have heard. The Thistlerocks endure, even in these cursed lands. After the third darkness only the most tenacious would stay on these lands. But Fortuna smiles on those who endures."

The sight of the small goddess statue gives Gallen Thistlerock pause. "What are you saying, Catfolk? You come to bless the place? We won't be paying you anything for your services."
OOC:
Net failure. 2 more strain on Gallen.

Negotiation vs. Nekurr

2 Success, 2 Advantage, 2 Failure, 2 Threat

Sep 3, 2019 4:20 am
Nera crosses her arms, looking at the surrounding property with an unimpressed look. "What, so you're just going to be content with the curse of bad luck which has been running rampant in the area? You do know about it yes?"
OOC:
Trying to back up Nekurr with a lie.

Oh boy these social encounter rules are looking mighty intimidating, hope I keep everything within reason.
Sep 3, 2019 1:38 pm
"We're investigating the disappearance of your neighbor and we'll leave for the night if later on is a better time but there will be a time agreed on if not now... Granted we have a broad skillset so opportunities to profit or ebenefits are possible for either or both sides I think." Tronus states back to the larger man.

After hearing the young boy Tronus raises an eyebrow, "The boy seems concerned about us so I don't think you mean us ill will. If there's nothing illicit or a threat to public or your personal safety I don't understand why you all are trying to get us to leave so quickly and bluntly without an explaination... If assistance is required depending on what it is we might be able to help as a sign of good faith." Tronus offers back to the man.

"Also I guess I should introduce myself also, Tronus of Clan Granite Breaker. On assignment for Lady Calypso Argus." he adds.
OOC:
Attempting to negotiate if that sounds like the roll I'll go with it. I'll use the threat from the roll on me as a boost to my next roll. Also going to use Influential Heroic since this seems like a time to do so.

OOC:
Hopefully not too intimidating, somebox! Just trading dialogue while trying to persuade one or more of them to lighten up in this case. In this case, Gallen is the leader, so targeting him is a good idea, but his strain threshold is likely the highest. The others will be easier to sway, which will then help you versus Gallen if they can come to your side. And if some sort of accord comes about organically before then, the encounter doesn't have to continue.

Targeting Gallen with the lie will be PPP. Take two boosts since it pertains to their Fear.

Remnant, sounds like you're targeting Gallen? Negotiation -- "We'll help you with your problem if you talk to us" -- might work versus either him or the kid. Boost for properly introducing yourself! :) Versus Gallen the roll is PRR. Versus the teenager it's PPP. Add a boost to either for introductions. Setback if you target Gallen, since you're changing the established pitch from the blessing to some other service.
Sep 3, 2019 6:35 pm
OOC:
Sound good, I'll go at Gallen since he's talking to me, Knack for It against setbacks on Negotiations pulls the black off, So GGYbPRR and if using Influential. Presense of 3 so +3 Strain.

Y'all toasted him! I'll use your boosts to help him calm his siblings instead if that's OK.
Gallen Thistlerock's glower hardens for a moment before being replaced by confusion and then exhaustion. "Let's hear them out," he tells the other three. "Maybe they can help us after all."
OOC:
1 Threat = one sibling storms off in anger.
The burly man with the beard sighs loudly and walks into the cottage, slamming the door behind him. The white-haired woman and thin boy remain. Gallen speaks again: "I'm Gallen Thistlerock. This is my sister, Lyssie, and her son, Benji. Angry guy is my brother, Thornil. Sorry for the cold welcome. We're just in a bit of crisis mode right now."

Benji glances up at his uncle and speaks. "We... We raise dogs. We raise and train them. It's how we make money with the... the curse, as you called it. But our dogs have been getting out lately, and they haven't come back. We're not sure what's going on."

Lyssie coughs. "See any sign of pups your way?"

Tronus looks up thinking his moustache twitching, "Honestly can't say I have Gallen but if you're training dogs and they're getting out, besides mending the fence which you've probably started we can attempt to track them down, they may have noticed something humans didn't and went to protect their kin. Either they're guarding against something or possibly worse outcomes have occurred. What say you all?" Tronus states looking to the rest, "It might be related indirectly to the case. Any of you good at tracking?"
Sep 4, 2019 1:27 pm
Their faces fall when Tronus mentions no sign of dogs. The woman nods. "The fence is fine. Problem is training a hunting dog, you have to let 'em go out hunting."

"That's the problem," Gallen says. "Sometimes you lose a pup here or there. But lately, whole packs have left and never come back." He nods toward the shut door. "Thornil's convinced it's these brigands everyone's talking about. I'm not so sure. A lot of the tracks end up..." His voice trails off.
OOC:
Anyone who wants to can make a PPP Vigilance check to get a read on Gallen.
The teenaged boy looks to the two Catfolk in the group. "So... You said you could lift the... curse? The one from the Third Darkness?"
OOC:
CESN, up to you how you want to handle the question. Do a simple Augment on them to make them happy in the short term? Try something more grandiose (also using Augment) with a higher possibility of failure? Just give them the Fortuna statue and say good luck?

Others should feel free to ask questions, too. But the deal was a blessing for their cooperation.
Sep 4, 2019 2:19 pm
Tronus stares at the man.
OOC:
Well this ought to be good...

"Oh yes, or at least understand what's the cause. Nekurr here-" She pats him on the shoulder. "And Hildar-" she also pats them "Are professionals in the arcane and divine respectively, if anyone can help with this bane, it is these two."
