"Damn! And Lady Argus presented this as an easy job..." Nekurr mentions immobile as the dog's eye slowing losing their red "light" but always, always fixing on his own eyes. He then snaps out of it and runs after Lyssie "Is she ok?".

The Ironbound loom over the body of the last dog but then quickly begin to de-materialise, their forms almost seeming to turn to smoke and drift away. As they do Hildar finally joins the rest of the group and casts an eye about the scene "How is everyone? Is anyone badly injured?"

Nera wants to smack Nekurr for blurting out information he certainly shouldn't have, but instead acts like she didn't hear it. "Not me." She approaches the group and gets to work retrieving her arrows.

OOC:
I think you've mentioned before you worked for Argus Inquiries. It's the fact that Lady Dribbage hired you that you've kept mum. Or is Nera reacting to something else?
Gallen and Thornil lead Lyssie the rest of the way out of the woods and help her sit in the grass of the dog run. A litter of puppies approaches her with glee, but she recoils before catching herself, apparently remembering that this is how dogs are supposed to act. She tries to speak, but the words come out as a raspy cough.

"Save your breath," Thorin says. "You're still in bad shape."

Benji comes bounding out of the clearing, apparently having shimmied down the tree with ease. "Ma!" he cries, crouching at Lyssie's side. "We need to get her to town. She needs a healer!"
OOC:
Up to you all how to proceed. Lyssie needs medical attention (two critical injuries), but none of you has an apothecary's kit to let you use Medicine on her without penalty. Nekurr's wounds can be healed up with a simple healing elixir. Magical healing (Divine) will also work: This approach requires two Hard (PPP) Divine checks, one for each critical injury.

OOC:
would she survive a trip to town?

OOC:
Not without being healed of at least her more severe critical injury first.
OOC:
I take that back somewhat. She's stable enough to travel, but she can't do anything strenuous or it might kill her (due to her critical injury).

Barvek cleans his blade. "I'm not hurt. Those were some nasty beasts."

OOC:
Great! I think Nekurr risked far too much already. he'll probably want a hot drink and a good night sleep. but lets take her to a temple (not through the graveyard!) :D

The senior Thistlerock, Gallen, claps Benji on the back. "Go fetch one of the horse carts. I'll take her in to the temple in town." He points to his younger brother and adds, "Thornil, you should stay here in case more of our... missing dogs show up."
Sep 23, 2019 1:03 pm
The burly man grunts. "The roads aren't safe, Gal. You know there could be them highwaymen about."
Sep 23, 2019 1:06 pm
Gallen shakes his head. "We can't risk her overnight. She needs a healer." He then turns to you: "We're grateful for your help. I wish I knew what got into our dogs. The fleshy bits -- that was them. But there was something... in them. I know some of you are a bit banged up and may not want to risk the roads. You're welcome to stay here the night. We don't have much, but looks like Lyssie's and my beds'll be available. And we've got a horse barn with a spare stable and some hay."

You consider the options. A trip into town would let you sleep in your own beds, but the roads are rumored to be unsafe at night these days. It also occurs to you that Lady Dribbage's house is only a short ways away, and she would probably be willing to put you up for the evening in what would presumably be more comfortable conditions.

The sun is now almost fully set, so any inspection of the defeated dogs will be by moonlight.

Tronus exhales loudly to calm himself before going to the woman.

"May ye not bounce, break, or bend until the journey's end and the caravan beds for the night. Protection of the Parcel." Tronus states and realizes his gift for whatever reason doesn't come... "You'll be fine, you seem cut of tougher stock Lass."
OOC:
My apologies was at a wedding this weekend. Got to see family from the Caribbean, so much dancing, my knees are at -10 to stairs.

"I think we should all go with Lyssie. It's probably not safe here as well." Nekurr move closer to Gallen, hoping for a good and comfortable night of sleep far away from any place where evil dogs roam or magical goats break in...
Sep 23, 2019 10:04 pm
Barvek nods in agreement with Nekurr. "I think it's best if we accompany Lyssie. Can't have her beset by any ruffians on her way to the healer."
Sep 24, 2019 4:01 am
"I do not fear bandits." Nera says simply, silently wondering if there will be any reward for her selfless act.
Sep 24, 2019 6:48 am
Whilst the others are deciding on what to do Hildar moves over to the dogs and starts to examine them.
OOC:
Looking for any indication of why they were acting in the way they were, whether they have been influenced in some way or whether this looks to be the Thistlerock's doing (i.e. if they were trained this way and things got out of hand)
Sep 24, 2019 12:18 pm
"I agree we should accompany her, someone should stay to make sure the hounds stay peaceful though from the family. For the record this kind of behavior isn't normal for them. Right?" Tronus states
Sep 24, 2019 1:25 pm
"You came in a wagon, right? Good. Then you can follow us. Less likely a bunch of hoodlums would attack a group our size." He throws Lyssie's arm over his shoulder to help her back up. "Thank you for your help. Wish we could offer you some sort of reward, but as it is, I don't even know if we'll be able to pay the healer's fees..." He looks down to his feet.
Sep 24, 2019 1:30 pm
Meanwhile, Hildar inspects the bodies of the dogs. Aside from their wounds from the battle, they look very similar to the dogs he saw back at the dog run. Some of them even have collars on that match those of the other Thistlerock dogs. But the red eyes... that was the clear difference between the dogs that attacked and the ones on the run.
OOC:
mcneils5, let me know how Hildar is approaching his inspection. Is he trying to determine if the dogs' behavior is consistent with other trained dogs? That's an Average (PP) Survival check. Is he trying to determine whether there's some nefarious explanation for their behavior? Let's say that's an Average (PP) Knowledge (Forbidden) check. Is he trying to use magic to ascertain whether the dogs were ensorcelled somehow? That's an Easy (P) Arcana check as a utility spell. Does he want to see where these dogs physically came from by looking at their fresh tracks? Easy (P) Survival check. All of these get a setback for falling darkness, although Hildar can mitigate that with a torch or magical light for an Easy (P) Arcana check to illuminate his wand or something.
