"It is customary at times to have to pay informants for information, or possibly if we were going to camp out in front of your house before investigating the graveyard a rental fee or compensation would be in order Mister Thistlerock." Tronus reasons aloud.
Sep 24, 2019 1:43 pm
"Saving her was payment enough, friend," Gallen replies. "If you can help us get to town safely, that's even more we'll be in your debt."

OOC:
We can take some of the dogs as "samples" right? maybe someone at the temple would know something :D

OOC:
Sure! I'm sure Hildar could use a hand with whatever he's got cooking. Nekurr can offer him a boost to any of those checks I outlined (except the Arcana ones), and then maybe propose bringing one of the bodies into town.
Sep 24, 2019 2:25 pm
Nekurr, trying to leave this place as fast as possible, approaches Hildar. "What are you doing? Need any help?"
Sep 24, 2019 10:05 pm
"Ah, yes. Um...it occurred to me that there may be something about the dogs that may give us some insight into whatever vexed them. Help me roll this one over" he says pointing at one of the larger dog bodies as he casts his eye over them all.
OOC:
Was thinking to glean if there was a 'nefarious explanation for their behavior' so will go with the (PP) Knowledge (Forbidden) check.....ALL THE SUCCESSES!!!!!!!

As Hildar and Nekurr inspect the body of the hound, they don't notice anything unusual about it. In death, it's just a dog. But it did have those glowing red eyes... Hildar is reminded of wizards' familiars, but that doesn't quite fit. No, he thinks there must be something more sinister at play. Indeed, his strongest suspicion is that the dogs may have been possessed... perhaps by a demonic presence from the Ynfernael plane...
OOC:
2 advantages... Will use them to give you another interesting, but unrelated, clue.
Meanwhile, Nekurr notices that the dogs' tracks are quite visible and lead off toward the Dribbage property and its cemetery.
OOC:
Easy check with a setback if you want to follow them.

OOC:
into the graveyard? at night? with demons? I'll call the trait "Extremely risk averse" ;)
"Wait! Have you noticed these dogs came from..." Nekurr looks up, fearfully pointing to the cemetery silhouette. "eheh, why don't we take the dead dogs with us and have them checked in town? he add nervously.
Sep 25, 2019 7:21 am
Hidar nods as Nekurr notes where the dogs came from "Yes, seems like someone, or something, doesn't want anyone looking into the graveyard.". He shrugs at the latter suggestion "We can do but now they're dead there doesn't seem to be anything amiss about them."

OOC:
OK, fast-forwarding a bit to the trip into town.
By the time the two horse carts are loaded up, evening has turned to night. You drive the horses as quickly as you can with only moonlight to guide you, conscious of the threat of brigands at the hour. But for whatever reason, the trip is uneventful—perhaps two carts with almost a dozen people in them is too much even for a band of highwaymen.

The large, wooden doors at the city gates are closed for the night, but Lyssie's condition convinces the guards to let you through. The Thistlerocks head directly for the Cathedral of St. Durvin, where they beg to be admitted. The clerics comply.

This leaves the rest of you to do as you will for the evening. There are books to look at, and perhaps inquiries to make, before you continue your investigation into Vizeron Dribbage's disappearance.
OOC:
OK, let's wrap this session up. Please let me know what you intend to do before going to bed. Each character can do one substantial action, or just turn in for the night.

* Asking the clerics (either of St. Durvin or St. Almar) to look at the dead dog: Average (PP) Charm check with a boost due to Lyssie having just been brought in (corroborating the story) and a setback for the late hour.

* Reading the magical tome Hildar has: Attempt another Knowledge (Forbidden) check to decipher the script. Hard (PPP) with a boost since you have some notion that demonic things are foot. Reading it cover to cover after that will take the whole night (no sleep), but skimming it will take about three hours.

* Reading the St. Durvin hagiography (Nekurr has it): Just a matter of putting in the time. Five hours to read it thoroughly, two to skim it.

* Reading the two journals from Dribbage's desk: Four hours to read them thoroughly, one hour to skim them.

"Since the night has come how about we find a pint and read up for tomorrow night so we can be prepared. Plus I need to return this wagon so everyone get off or come with." Tronus states to the rest of the group.
Sep 25, 2019 3:50 pm
OOC:
I'd love to drop a dog on the clerics, but since I have a book to read... No check required, I'll read the book at the cathedral, where the clerics may help as well ;)
"I think I'll stay with the Thistlerocks at St. Durvin's for the night. Should we meet there first thing in the morning?"
Sep 25, 2019 3:51 pm
OOC:
CESN, so what are you doing with the dog carcass?

Forgot: Tronus has Dribbage's separation papers from St. Durvin's. Reading through those will take less than an hour.

OOC:
Reading the book: 5 hours or less if having the clerics around helps
Sep 25, 2019 4:42 pm
"Works for me. I'll read up on the missing uncles career and separation through communicae left behind in the hidden part of the desk." Tronus states with a nod once everyone who's getting off gets off so he can return the wagon and get some reading done.
Sep 25, 2019 6:05 pm
OOC:
Anyone who reads for 4 hours or more will need to give me a Resilience check to fight fatigue. Easy (P) for reading for 4–6 hours, Average (PP) for 6–8 (essentially pulling an all-nighter).

Also keep in mind that to get all your strain back requires a decent night's sleep, so at least 4 hours, let's say.

OOC:
I'll give you the option: Do you want to ask one of them for a summary? It's about their god, so they may be familiar with the book. That option will be an Average (PP) Charm check with a setback for the hour.
Sep 25, 2019 6:33 pm
OOC:
So I can read for an hour get a beer and pass out and be right as rain... Very dwarven...
Sep 25, 2019 8:30 pm
OOC:
so Can i skim it for 2h and then chat with a cleric about some details to focus the reading on the important parts?
As Nekurr sits down in the cathedral, waiting for news of Lyssie he remembers the book about St. Durvin and starts to read through it quickly. After 2 hours or so, a priest passes by and notices the half-cat reading the hagiography. Curious the priest approaches, asking if Nekurr is enjoying learning about the miraculous life of St Durvin and offering his help. "Ah, yes, it is very interesting. Could I ask a bit more about this chapter here? I’m not sure how to interpret this..." and so both stayed for a bit longer discussing St Durvin’s life.
