Average Leadership Check?

1 Success, 4 Failure

Total: 3 Failure

Oct 9, 2019 2:49 pm
OOC:
2 more strain to Tronus for the failed Leadership attempt. But it looks like Nekurr's Charm check did the trick. 2 Advantage to learn his Weakness, and Nekurr may spend the other 2 how he wishes (maybe to get back 2 strain). Everyone may make a simple (no difficulty) Cool or Discipline check to recover strain now.
OOC:
Hildar may make an Average (PP) check to scan out to medium range for anything magical. I'm going to say no on the boost, since in my mind, a magical check like this is just "yes" or "no." We could figure something else out if you wanted to specifically check for demonic energies or something, so let me know.
The Dwarf seems confused by Nekurr's attempt to placate him. "Books? Infatuations?" He moves the bag behind his back. You hear the sound of liquid sloshing in a bottle as he does so. "Now, I'm a good worker, all right. But you blokes just surprised me. You can't sneak up on a body like..." He seems lost in thought before continuing. "...that." The Dwarf leans over as if his shovel is still in his hands, but it is, of course, in the open grave. He nearly loses his balance before righting himself once again. He is clearly very drunk.

"So what's this about an infestation of dogs?"
OOC:
Weakness: Doesn't want you to know he's sloshed on the job.

Nera rolls her eyes and whispers to her companions, leaving the actual negations to the more leadership-types. "I bet 10 silver his bag is full of booze."

"Sorry for any confusion. I'm Barvek," he says as walks carefully around the hole and extends a hand of greeting. "We were at the neighbor's last night. You know, the Thistlerocks. We were attacked by some strange dogs. Seemed like they came from this direction. Fought something fierce. From the look of things, you run a tight ship here. Keep these grounds nice and well cared for. Did you see any dogs around here last night?"

I guess probing question is not useful now :(
"Or, you know, not just dogs, but anything that could have scared the dogs..." Nekurr looks around for scary things before adding "or cats"

Erm, ok then - will see what comes of the success and have a think about the triumphs but would probably just say to have them to pick up on other details we may have missed

Ah, it would have been, but your Charm check was so successful that it pushed him over his strain threshold! At any rate, y'all know he's nervous about being drunk on the job now, so that still will come into play.
The Dwarf shakes Barvek's hand, apparently out of rote, but he scowls at Nera. "You's inquisitioners sent by the Church, huh? Or is it the Groundskeepers Guild wot sent you? Come to get me sacked?" The Dwarf recovers his shovel and throws a spadeful of dirt into the grave as if to prove he's actually just doing his normal duties. "Any time them Thiddlero... Thimmelro... Thistlerock dogs comes in here, I chase 'em away. If you was attacked by some, must've been at night, after I gone home. Or somebody dragged 'em here."

OOC:
Holy mole, that's an impressive roll! What I've written below is what you would have gotten just from success. For the double Triumph, I'm happy to let you keep the wand activated for two more scenes with no concentrate maneuver if that sounds OK? Normally I don't think that'd be allowed, meaning you'd have to keep casting Utility over and over.
Meanwhile, Hildar's wand briefly fixes on Nekurr's symbol and the magic tome hidden amongst Hildar's things before spinning a full circle horizontal to the ground. Hildar feels his hand pulled down toward the earth, so he crouches. The tip of the wand moves up and down, taking in the full depth of the open grave and about two or three feet of space above it. The Elf concludes that this whole graveyard is under some sort of magical ward.

OOC:
Sounds good to me
Hildar frowns at his wand before he mutters to the others "There is some sort of enchantment laid over the entire graveyard, I'm not sure if it's benevolent or otherwise but the amount of power needed to lay an enchantment over such a large area is.....significant"

Nekurr turns to reply to Kerduk "There is no need to worry about the Groundskeepers Guild. We're very collaborative people and we enjoy collaboration. So, you were saying you have seen the Thistlerock's dogs around? Were they behaving in any strange way?" After considering how to approach Vizeron's frequent visits to the cemetery, the half-catfolk continues his questioning "And what about people? Any frequent visitors you may have noticed? Maybe someone changed routine recently? New visitors? Anything you can remember would be very... good collaboration".

The cleric looks away as Hildar mentions a powerful enchantment "That's probably just from the clerics' rituals? They do something to keep the cemetery protected from..." Nekurr looks back at the dwarf and stops "Hildar this is probably just some regular divine enchantment, right?"

"Calibration, yes" the Dwarf says, matching Nekurr's intonation even if the syllables are wrong. "I, uh--you lot ask a lot of questions. It's too much for a body to 'member. I ain't seen no dogs lately if that's what you're after." He seems lost in thought for a moment. "Or maybe you're asking about the clerics? They come here every week. Do the rituals or celebrations or whatever to keep the wards up, ya see. Don't want no shambly undead types crawling about. Just came yesterday. Took most the morning, few hours." He shifts his weight, and the sloshing noise sounds from his bag again. "Had a funeral day afore. Just closing up the grave now. This time of week I usually get a moment a peace if there ain't no more funerals scheduled."
Oct 11, 2019 3:04 pm
"You’re only closing the grave from a funeral from day afore?" Nekurr find it strange and looks inside the grave for a quick check

The open grave looks about as Nekurr would expect an open grave to look. The top of a wooden coffin is visible peeking out of the dirt, as the groundskeeper seems to have already filled in around the sides. The tombstone looks fresh and unweathered. The name on it is Adelbert Thinster Baltimon, "beloved husband, devoted father."

The Dwarf looks at Nekurr with a furrowed brow. "Um, yes. Funeral was two days back. Sometimes we get backed up if there's a rash o' illness in town."
Oct 11, 2019 4:29 pm
"I see..." Nekurr looks around "one last question! These dogs you chased out of the cemetery... did it look like they were going to a specific place, a grave or mausoleum or something?"
Oct 11, 2019 5:53 pm
He shrugs. "Those folk let the dogs run loose. Suppose they're learning to hunt or something. Been awhile since I seen any on the property. Maybe they ranging closer to the Drimmage place now that the old man gone."

OOC:
gone???? Anyone what to follow up on that one?
Oct 11, 2019 8:24 pm
"What do you know of Drimmage's disappearance? Did you see him leaving?"
Oct 12, 2019 12:48 am
The Dwarf raises his brow and relaxes a bit. "Mr. Vizeron was a nice sort. Useter chat with me, say hello and how do you do. Came out to the yard nearly every single day. Came out to read his books," He points over a ridge. "usually over in the older lots that way. Ain't seen him in..." He whistles and scratches his beard. "must be going on a year now. You lot know what came of him?"
