Effect: The user can ask the GM one question and get a general answer (from an appropriate
entity, institution, or object in the particular recursion or area of the Chaosphere in which the
cypher is used). The GM assigns a level to the question, so the more obscure the answer, the
more difficult the task. Generally, knowledge that a PC could find by looking somewhere other than
his current location is level 1, and obscure knowledge of the past is level 7. Gaining knowledge of
the future is level 10, and such knowledge is always open to interpretation.
2) Crystal orb: SHELTERING RECURSION
Level: 6
Effect: A pocket-dimension-sized recursion is created that operates under the same law as the
recursion in which the cypher is used. A single inapposite gate is also created. Once used, the
device becomes inactive, but the recursion is permanent.
Dragon statue: LIFT
Level: 4
Effect: For up to one hour after activation, the cypher user can float up into
the air or back down again at a rate of 20 feet (6 m) per round. Winds or
other effects can move the user laterally.
OOC:
The help rule follows the rules given by The Stranger's system. If the actor is not skilled, but the helper is, they reduce the difficulty by 1 step. If not, then it will be a +1 bonus to actor's roll.
For your example, maybe a breaking in(strength) roll is used. If you are and your partner is not skilled, working together gives a simple +1. If only your partner is skilled, he will make your attempt easier with a - 1 to difficulty step. If only you are skilled, then your partner ain't gonna give much extra help, so it will be +1 to you.
