Hey all okay HeroAmongMen cannot quite wrap his mind around Feliani character -- he has character in another version of this game where we lost all the other players to the great void -- so how would you all feel about a non-organic switch of Feliani for this other character both are female fighter types -- basically I do a swap and Feliani would be no more and this other character would have been the one in its place

I am fine with the character switch.

Same as Rpgventurer! It's early enough in the campaign that it wouldn't influence too much anyway. :D

Okay I noticed this elsewhere and while I concurred with it I realize I had not included within the parameters of this game -- it is now within my creation guide but wanted to be sure you all were aware of this since you are done with the creation process.

I have played a lot of PbP games over the years, and player engagement and freedom with the narrative of the world about them helps to keep everyone engaged - and, it relieves the GM of trying to provide ALL the detail for every scene or the world around them all. As such you can always request things for scenes or for world content and/or just simply ask if its there or if can be be there -- all these work -- basically feel free to make suggestions for content and such as I will take that into serious consideration as many times I have shifted gears mid-game to incorporate a comment someone made at the table that sounded particularly interesting and fun to add in but I cannot over hear your thoughts so you have to post them ;)

snapperw81 says:
OOC:
I don't think it was ever answered, but does proficiency in Herbalism kits allow for poison making? I apologize if I missed it.
snapperw81 it appears it is in neither yet both and they also added the Poisoner's Kit (aka Tools) in Xanathar's Guide. Sadly though it appears that the PHB, DMG, and XG contradict or confuse the issue of what each of these actually does and does not do. As such I am going to say this -- all 3 can make toxins BUT they do not do so in the same way or with the same end results. Further I am going to give Poisoner a more generic term which is how the Poisoner functions without directly being identified as such. So all 3 of these produce concoctions that are not magical in nature but each of these can augment the ability to make magical concoctions based on the what that magical concoction is being made from.

Herbalism would of course deal with plant based poisons (aka Nightshade)
Alchemy would deal with mineral based poisons (aka Arsenic)
Apothecary would deal mainly with venoms but also some poisons as well (aka Black Mamba Venom)

And to cover this in a broader sense --

Alchemist deals with making mineral based concoctions
Apothecary deals with making animal based concoctions
Herbalist deals with making plant based concoctions

Thus getting back to the age ole division of is it Animal, Vegetable or Mineral

This allows us to define them and denote what makes them different and/or why they are different. Further :

Poisons are toxins that get into the body via swallowing, inhaling or absorption through the skin.
Venoms are toxins that get into the body via actively being injected using a carrier mechanism (bite, sting, blade, etc...).

However regardless of the toxin one would have to find the recipes or make the recipes -- as Poison and especially Venoms are not a widely accepted practice throughout the Realms and in fact most places consider them to be out right illegal

Do we have a new invisible player, or did you post in the wrong game?.. :D
Not to say rules for the kits aren't welcome (I do have a herbalist kit), but I'm confused by the quote. XD

Posted in the wrong game :) but its coming down the pipe -- basically things covered in one game that require rulings get propagated to all the games --- so once I have this done for that group it will be available to everyone

But thanks for point that out as that allowed me post where I should have posted it

Okay considering what a Long Rest is now I felt that some recovery of spell slots should take place during a Short Rest so I have added to what can occur during a short rest -- and keep in mind that most over night camping is equivalent to 2 short rests if not disturbed during that period. Here is that section along with the addition outlined in blue for easier viewing -- this may mean Brindel does have a spell slot or two available as well as the other characters that used magic slots earlier. Please outline in your next post what slots (if any) you recovered during the last nights -- 2 short rests. Note this is not going to always be automatic -- as it assumes adequate food and water for the day and adequate conditions for resting and meditating.

Dukagsh (Male) God of Explorers, Guides, and Travelers. Are ever going to expand a bit more on this god? Thought at one time you were going to but I have the feeling that got lost someplace.
Dec 2, 2020 3:19 am
Yes sorry got involved in other things -- I will move it back upon my plate -- just keep squeaking ;) and I promise I will get it done
Dec 4, 2020 5:03 pm
Okay GeneCortess I have posted a more detailed version of Dukagsh keep in mind though Shump is not proficient in Religion and his in-depth understanding of it is a bit weak (-1) but this should give you a better gist of who and what he is at least as far as Shump knows.

Okay -- we been playing for a wee bit and I am curious -- as a player what do you find the must fun/exciting/interesting within a game -- having a nifty magic item -- discovering and solving a mystery -- vanquishing enemies in combat -- advancing your character in levels -- getting new and interesting abilities -- having a ongoing nemesis -- working with other players cohesively -- something else

I mean perhaps it is a combination of things and considering it is what you consider fun -- no answer can be wrong -- I am just curious because I like to try and deliver to the players that which they will have the most fun interacting with -- mostly I base it off of past experience as a player and a GM but I acknowledge that an individual player is unique and as such I would like to address as much uniqueness as I can. So please give it a wee bit of thought and as things progress forward I will see what I can deliver. Remember the fun of this game is not entirely on me -- you all have the ability to help increase the fun by supply thoughts and such. Normally in face-to-face games I can listen to banter amongst the players to get clues but in a PbP I have to blatantly ask :)

I like character interactions with NPCs and PCs, though I observe them more than participate in them. :D I also prefer writing over crunching numbers, so I like periods between fights probably more than fights themselves, at least in case of fights that are against groups of enemies - boss battles can be very text-heavy, I imagine! (I also like the fact that we are fighting undead, and not living beings.)

I love advancement, if only because I'm not familiar with DnD that much and I want to have at least one character level up. :'D

Out of your list, I'm not very interested in magic items - because inventory is a pain to track and I'm always indecisive about gear in games, - and having a nemesis. Everything else is great!

I'm 100% with DeJoker.
Dec 16, 2020 7:09 pm
Thanks GeneCortess but I am not understanding your reply -- I am asking what you find fun and/or what do you find interesting-exciting-etc... within a game you are playing in

FlyingSucculent but what if you had a single magic item that did some interesting and/or did weird things -- what if it had an odd personality that you had to deal with?
Dec 16, 2020 7:32 pm
I think it heavily depends on what weird thing exactly can it do. If it is something very unusual and/or maybe uncharacteristic for the setting, like (for a hyperbolic example) containing a whole pocket dimension or allowing to go into space, then that's more interesting! But items like weapons with elemental magic or teleportation rings are everywhere in fantasy, and thus feel blander.

As for personalities, I love sentient items, but they create too many ethical problems. XD Unless you mean something along the lines of partial sentience, or items' magic being fickle and not always working. Then it might be pretty fun, I imagine. :D

As for the attitudes thing -- I once took the concept of magic items with attitudes and gave someone a pair Cat Boots that did some interesting things very helpful for that character but they constantly wanted to be groomed and kept clean -- and absolutely hated and would refuse risking getting wet -- which occasionally meant to use them the player had to get a bit creative -- that player really enjoyed their boots

For me, the thing that keeps me in games is feeling that my character is doing something important, or is part of something important. Often in my real life, we do a lot of mundane stuff, and it feels sometimes like the things I do don't matter; however, when I immerse myself into the world of one of my characters, I want to have the feeling that what my character is going through is important to the world/the region/something like that. Having meaning is a reason that I love immersing myself in games.

Smiles. Yes. I'm enjoying the game.

@DeJoker, I finally have time to post some bits in reply. First off, thanks for asking.

What I like the most is interacting with the other players through our characters. When I first played D&D back in the 70s, it was combat heavy. I like the direction that WOTC and other companies have taken in stressing role-playing and character development in their games. One of the strengths of PbP is allowing time for thoughtful responses and decisions. As does @HeroAmongMen, I would like our characters' actions to have meaning in the world.

Regarding magic items: yes, they add a lot to the game and character story. (What is Elric with Stormbringer? Bilbo without the One Ring?) I wouldn't want a sentient item that forces my PC to do major things or is important in a major way; my enjoyment comes from me making decisions. I am not interested in interacting with the items.

Moreover, I don't think we have to know what each magic item does right away, but I don't want it to be too difficult or take too much time to find out either. PbP games take much longer than RL games for the same adventure, and many people like me play them because their lives are too busy for regularly scheduled gaming. I have no intention of going anywhere, but no one knows what the future holds six months from now. For example, I like, but I am not too excited about, Brindel's axe. I don't know enough about it. I tried to get clues in game what it does, and we spent a lot of real time setting up a dinner, and I feel like didn't get much information from our dwarven host. (I accept that it could be me just missing clues.)

I wouldn't want a nemesis now as I prefer going on different types of adventures, e.g. mysteries, rescues, retrieving items. Let's see what develops in game. Maybe our characters will antagonize someone powerful.

Advancement is good. I am not interested in new abilities outside of what new levels give characters.

Finally, I do like that you give the NPCs personalities. I also appreciate all the work you do in fine-tuning the rules, although it slows me down having to look for things in different places. :-)
