I hope everyone feels free to jump in with questions about the portal, the jungle, what creatures might be there, etc. to speed things along. My time online will continue to be erratic this week as it has been so far this year.

Shump gave his all.

I just want to say, I don't trust this lady. XD It might be her not understanding non-spirit (or whatever she is) people, but she's being way too vague. If the creature behind the door ends up being some innocent that these two locked away, I won't be surprised. Though it's equally likely that it's actually a trickster demon, I suppose. Any bets? :P

FlyingSucculent, thanks for jumping in. The vagueness bothered me too, but I was trying to keep Brindel respectful, since we don't know if it's a case of "I can't tell you" as opposed to "I don't want to tell you."

Do we have a spot really to post about our character where they don't get lost in so many posts?

In what manner GeneCortess?

Just what we look like (Picture and text about apparent stuff) and if someone wants to add more they can like history and/or personality points. There is only us 4 and NPC right?

Well Lex is an PC/NPC but yeah and there is the Character Notes thread and if you reserve your first post in there for that you can easily find it. But I am also planning on posting a blurb like I did for Lex for each of the PCs as well.

Egret's personality and bio are on his sheet (should be viewable to everyone), but it would be nice to have a thread for shorter notes, like habits or quirks that come up during the game. Editing the sheet each time is a bit inconvenient... Maybe we can have a designated thread with one post for each of us, so it's easier to check?

Player Notes probably would work, but I thought it was more for plot stuff. :D

Player notes is for everything I can make a CharacterProfile thread and you each post a single post and make your character notes and such there would be fine by me -- shall I drop it in the character creation folder?
Feb 14, 2021 2:06 am
Putting a separate notes thread for each player in the Character Creation folder sounds good to me.
Feb 14, 2021 2:15 am
I think I'd prefer having one thread for all characters so it's easier to check all at once, but I don't mind multiple threads either. ...maybe in another subforum, though? There are already too many threads in Character Creation, I think. XD

Okay not sure if this affects anyone in this game but I have updated all the Backgrounds associated with any that a player has taken thus far so if yours has not been addressed as of yet it should be and you might want to take a look.

Okay due to recent events it has come to light that the price for magic item consumables is inconsistent and as such I am applying a consistency aspect to them so that I can more easily calculate their values and this can give you all a means of getting an idea of what a magic item might be worth.

First : Spell Level of the Effect x 100gp
Second : Casting Level of the Effect if not equal to Spell Level an additional +50gp per level
Third : Consumables cost half as much

For instance a Healing Potion cast at 3rd level would cost as follows
1st Level Spell Effect -- 100gp
3rd Level Casing ------- +50gp x2
Consumable Magic Item -- (100gp +100gp) / 2 = 100gp

Note this currently only applies to Spell Effect Levels from 1st through 3rd -- upon entering 4th and above I have to refactor this in order to make sure those magic items get the appropriate costing structure. I will be trying to make a list of the magic item consumables that are not Scrolls and pricing them out -- however if anyone wants to lend a hand please do as that would just speed things up.

Also if you did purchase a Scroll at the 100gp -- you can use the 50gp refund for another scroll or you can apply it some other magic consumable if you like -- in short you get the refund but you must use it or lose it as previous

...as still kinda a noob, this confuses me with spell levels and casting levels. I think I'm just not a fan of crunching numbers when I'm roleplaying, and I'm realizing it now. Or maybe just spellcasting. XD

Can you tell me what would "Potions of Healing" cost, the ones I have? Their original cost is listed as 75gp (per potion) in my notes. Do I need to drop some to account for higher price?
Feb 23, 2021 12:28 am
No and not sure why you have them noted as 75gp as the basic Healing Potion in the PHB is 50gp and that is not changing.

But to make it easier I, with some help, plan to make a list of all the consumable magic items and their base market value -- note this is not what you can buy them for just a starting point -- as in-game you have issues with supply and demand.

As to the basic understanding let us take Cure Wounds (1d8+Mod) for example the basis for the Healing Potion (2d4+2).

Cure Wounds is a 1st Level spell -- so for the basic version it would be 100gp divided by 2 or as listed in the PHB 50gp

Now however Cure Wounds can be up cast so while it is a 1st Level spell you can use a 2nd level or higher spell slot (aka casting level) to cast it to create a greater effect. So a Cure Wounds 1st level spell effect (1d8+Mod) that is cast with a 2nd level spell slot (2d8+Mod) would mean it costs 100 gp + 50 gp divided by 2 or 75gp -- for the Healing Potion this would equate to one that heals (4d4+2) but this would require a different recipe which is not standard knowledge for a Herbalist

Now if all that makes your head hurt ;) then do not be concerned as you can always ask and I will relate the information to you in basic terms. I fully understand not everyone gets into the crunchy bits which is perfectly fine. Just know I am working on making a list of consumable magic items that might be available for a price within the game should you find a source for such things.

The original potion cost came from the old game and this catalogue; all magic items had to count as expensive as a house rule.
I think we discussed it back when we just started this game in this thread, but I can't find if the rule ever got changed. In my defence, you did approve my shopping list with them listed as 75gp. XD

I think I got the idea mostly, thanks for explaining. Not sure I feel confident with ever dealing with pricing the consumables, but as long as it doesn't mean I need to change something on the sheet, that's cool. XD
Feb 23, 2021 12:54 am
Well how many of those potions at 75gp did you buy -- if an even number than just for every 2 you bought you get an additional 1

Also I discarded that catalogue as it introduced confusion and was not fully reliable nor fully compatible with the PHB.

As for my approving it with a 75gp healing potion -- well I am only human ;-) so I can miss things.

I honestly don't remember how many. My notes say 3, but I think I replaced one later to do something else and forgot to fix it in the list I have saved? I'm fine with keeping as they are either way, it's not that important after all. Well, unless you plan on sending something very spooky and bloodthirsty against us. XD
Feb 23, 2021 1:12 am
Well in that case take an extra one ;) you might need it
