@DeJoker, I finally have time to post some bits in reply. First off, thanks for asking.
What I like the most is interacting with the other players through our characters. When I first played D&D back in the 70s, it was combat heavy. I like the direction that WOTC and other companies have taken in stressing role-playing and character development in their games. One of the strengths of PbP is allowing time for thoughtful responses and decisions. As does @HeroAmongMen, I would like our characters' actions to have meaning in the world.
Regarding magic items: yes, they add a lot to the game and character story. (What is Elric with Stormbringer? Bilbo without the One Ring?) I wouldn't want a sentient item that forces my PC to do major things or is important in a major way; my enjoyment comes from me making decisions. I am not interested in interacting with the items.
Moreover, I don't think we have to know what each magic item does right away, but I don't want it to be too difficult or take too much time to find out either. PbP games take much longer than RL games for the same adventure, and many people like me play them because their lives are too busy for regularly scheduled gaming. I have no intention of going anywhere, but no one knows what the future holds six months from now. For example, I like, but I am not too excited about, Brindel's axe. I don't know enough about it. I tried to get clues in game what it does, and we spent a lot of real time setting up a dinner, and I feel like didn't get much information from our dwarven host. (I accept that it could be me just missing clues.)
I wouldn't want a nemesis now as I prefer going on different types of adventures, e.g. mysteries, rescues, retrieving items. Let's see what develops in game. Maybe our characters will antagonize someone powerful.
Advancement is good. I am not interested in new abilities outside of what new levels give characters.
Finally, I do like that you give the NPCs personalities. I also appreciate all the work you do in fine-tuning the rules, although it slows me down having to look for things in different places. :-)
