The Oozing Temple (3rd level)

As the others pass through the broken wall Duren stays behind to watch their back. He calls to them as they make their way through the tunnel, "Did no one check those four deep alcoves? I'll stay back here and make sure we have no surprises at our back."
Feb 16, 2020 10:18 pm
OOC:
Corunir did check, actually. Rolled a 19 on Perception. But he doesn't have darkvision, and relies on Andras torch. So yeah, might've missed something.

OOC:
Yeah, the result of Corunir's check is that he noticed the weak floor tiles.
With each step down the rough-walled tunnel, the group heard the sound of pouring water grow louder. Soon they come to a small cavern with cracks in the ceiling, through which flows a cascade of water. through cracks in the 10-foot-high ceiling. From the rate of the falling water, it would seem that the cracks were caused by the tremor the party experienced earlier. It's only a matter of time before water floods the entire complex.

There appear to be no other passages leading out of this cavern.

OOC:
Oh that ain't good. By the way, I will spend the minute to set the trap without using a spell slot
"This seems to be the source..." Andras muttered rather frustrated.
Feb 17, 2020 2:46 pm
"That, it does," murmurs Corunir, disappointed at the discovery. "Shall we turn back, then? Try those four hallways?"
Feb 17, 2020 5:09 pm
Zigurd can't help himself and he gawks a bit at the cascade.
"Yes, yes. Let us be on our way in the opposite direction. Come along, Ooblek" Zigurd says with a bit of shock to all of the Companions and the jelly. And he makes to follow Corunir back out again.
Feb 17, 2020 5:17 pm
"Well the water helps at least a bit..." Tip muses as they walk. She examines the entrances of each path. "Which one is least soggy? We want to go up anyway, right?"
OOC:
Not a great roll. Survival would be +4 so an 11, or Perception +2 to make 9.

Rolls

Which path is driest? - (1d20)

(7) = 7

Duren hears the conversation and steps into the corridor they had earlier traveled along and looks into the northernmost 'hallway', his bow at the ready with an arrow set into the string.
Feb 19, 2020 5:14 am
Knowing the group needs his ability to see in the dark, but also making sure to stay behind the bigger folk should any threat appear, Zanzur peers into the same hallway as Duren.

Wow, I must have really goofed with something last time I posted. Like, somehow I copied Aldrusian's post and pasted it into my own, and lost the post I had written. Anyway, I returned Aldrusian's words to his own post and deleted the weird thing I had. I can't remember what I meant to have written, so I guess we'll just go on with the game!
From what the companions can tell, each of the four passages has roughly the same amount of water on the floor. The water seems to be flowing down through cracks in the floor of each passage, suggesting that there may be another level of the temple below.

Ooblek squelches along with the party. What ho! A bit wet, isn't it? Yes, I'm pretty sure that's new. Pretty sure...

The passages themselves each curve around to the left after a few dozen feet.

[ooc]I do that all the time but mine is usually within a single post. I've been known to spend 15 minutes on a single brilliant post and with a single missed keystroke, lose it all.[/ooc

"If the water is flowing to a lower level here then there is likely a way down to it not far away. Going in that other direction may lead us away from that entrance." Duren takes a couple of steps down the second hallway.
Feb 24, 2020 6:10 am
"Lead on then, brave Duren!" Corunir says, following the ranger. "Come, friends! Do not fall behind."
Feb 24, 2020 5:37 pm
Zigurd sticks with the group but keeps an active eye out for trouble in whatever flavor it might present itself...
OOC:
….And I guess what I meant by peeled is actually shut tight....

Rolls

Eyes peeled for trouble (Perception) - (1D20+1)

(2) + 1 = 3

Feb 24, 2020 11:23 pm
At the head of the group, Duren proceeds carefully down the chosen passage - until the floor gives way beneath him. The slick stones fall away, taking the ranger with them...

Duren's fall is short and the landing is softer than expected. Indeed, he feels the ground beneath him ripple in response to his impact. He has only a moment to notice the enclosed pit about him when a large black ooze squelches out from beneath him and draws itself up to attack!

Rolls

Duren Dex save DC 11 - (1d20+5)

(3) + 5 = 8

Feb 24, 2020 11:37 pm
Round 1 Player Phase!
OOC:
So Duren is down in trap pit that has a nasty ooze at the bottom. He can crawl out by using his action to make a DC 11 ability check (athletics or acrobatics could apply, his choice).

Speedy rules, so everyone go ahead and post when you can. Also, feel free to command Ooblek.

Would Corunir know anything about black puddings? Like their Split ability? Yeah, probably not.

How deep is this hole?

Rolls

INT check (if applicable) - (1d20-1)

(3) - 1 = 2

Feb 25, 2020 4:59 am
OOC:
With all the water it's hard to say how deep the pit is, but Duren is about 10 feet down.
Feb 25, 2020 2:58 pm
"DUREN!" Zigurd yells as he surges forward sheathing Red Tooth.
He slides on his stomach to the pit edge and reaches his hands down to help him up.

"Duren, grab my arms and I'll get you out of here!" he pleads
OOC:
I'm hoping to provide Duren with Advantage or a bonus to escape this pit/pudding

Rolls

Athletics check(for baseball slide and reach) - (1D20+2)

(16) + 2 = 18

Strength check(Boosting his escape chance?) - (1D20+2)

(15) + 2 = 17

OOC:
Awesome move! Yes, I think Duren can have advantage.
