[IC] Sudden Payback (Session 2)

OOC:
Whoa! Heck of a turn for Max!
As he darts around the pipes swinging past his head, Hank catches Mahoney moving out of the corner of his eye and hears Fatima's warning. "You ain't wrong, sister, but we got our hands full!" He ducks again, then springs up with an uppercut to the masked man's chin.

The man hits the ground like a ton of bricks, then Hank shoulder checks the remaining mook and charges at the door Mahoney went through.
OOC:
Yowza! Heck of a turn for Hank too! That's 6 damage before soak, plus 2 triumphs. I'll use one of those to crit and drop one mook. Can I use the other to interfere with Mahoney's plan? Maybe when I cut the wifi, it also cut the power to whatever he's trying to do?

Or if that's too strong, maybe when he closed the door it didn't latch, so all it takes is a push to get up in his business?

Either way, using one maneuver to disengage, then taking strain and another maneuver to get to the door Mahoney went through.

Rolls

Punch it!

3 Success, 2 Advantage, 2 Triumph, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 2 Triumph

Oct 3, 2020 12:51 am
OOC:
What a couple of turns!

Added +1 boost to Duke and Max; will use the +2 advantage for Max's roll to strain the enforcer x 2.

The door not locking makes more sense based on what he's doing, so we'll go with that. Saves y'all an Athletics or Skullduggery check to open it! Guy's up, then the NPCs.
As the big man goes down, Duke finds his thigh and clamps down. The man lets out a high-pitched scream as the dog tears at his trousers and draws blood. Max pops back to his feet and joins in, kicking at the man's arm and face and sending his brass knuckles clattering onto the concrete.

Across the room, Hank's huge arms propel two meaty fists into the remaining masked goons. The cheap Halloween masks crumple like the thin plastic they are, and both of them fall flat on their backs, out cold. Hank notices the door to the back room rattling in place as Mahoney exclaims, "Shit!"

After the crash of the car and the chaos of the current melee, Guy grabs a bottle of painkillers, swallows a few down, and charges at the door.
OOC:
Using action and maneuvers to disengage and swallow some pills. The pills I could find in thr book were +1 Brawn, so let me know what the pills actually heal lol.

Rolls

Open Door

4 Success, 5 Advantage, 3 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 3 Advantage

Oct 3, 2020 11:22 am
OOC:
Actually, if both of the mooks are dropped now, I don't think either of us have to disengage. So that saves us some strain, and you may also have enough to knock the door open if you want to.

Painkillers are from the OOC Player Resource Thread:
One-use item that heals 5 wounds. The next painkiller in the same day heals 4 more wounds. The third heals 3, and so on.

awesome, I'll do that if that's the case, thanks!

OOC:
Yep, your 2 maneuvers, nezzeraj, would be 1) pop the pain pills, 2) engage with the door. Technically, opening it will require a third maneuver, which you can't do on this turn. But you could take 2 strain and try an opposed Athletics check vs. Mahoney to try to bowl him over and open it at the same time? You'd roll Athletics versus RPP, 2 boosts since he probably doesn't see it coming, and the door swings inward toward him.

Ok edited my original post with the roll, 1 success, 3 advantages. For the advantages maybe trigger a knockdown when he was hit by the door?

The door flies open! Guy catches his balance. Mahoney does not. He falls backward onto his butt. The lights in the room are off, but Guy can see it's some sort of office, with cushy-looking chairs, a desk, and bad hotel art on the walls.

Back across the warehouse, Fatima snags one of the discarded lead pipes lying by her boot. It's not pretty, but she then uses it to bash the downed enforcer over the head...
OOC:
Mahoney's in the Executive Office on the map above.

Fatima has an ability called "mix it up" that grants her +1 success +1 advantage, as long as she uses a different attack skill every turn. With that, she hits with 4 advantage. Then pass a boost to the next PC.

22 (Easy [P]): Off-Balance - Add +1 setback to next check.

Rolls

Melee + prone + flank

6 Advantage, 3 Threat

Total: 3 Advantage

crit - (1d100)

(22) = 22

The blow may very well have concussed the big man, but it doesn't stop him from bellowing a guttural scream as he leaps back to his feet and wraps Max in a savage bearhug. Still, the head wound takes its toll, as the man can't seem to get his footing in a way that would do anything more than make Max smell his terrible cologne.

Rolls

Brawl (Grappling) w/SP

1 Success, 1 Advantage, 2 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Failure

Oct 5, 2020 2:51 am
Mahoney pops back onto his feet and puts his dukes up. "OK, Pops. You wanna get in here? You're gonna have to get past me first."
OOC:
Maneuver to get back up. He sacrifices his action to use his Counterstrike ability. Basically, sacrifices his turn in order to take a guarded stance with extra bells and whistles: Upgrades all attacks on him, adds Exhausting 1 to attacks on him until his next turn (+1 strain per attack), and any attack on him that generates enough threat or despair causes damage to the attacker.)

So note: attacks Mahoney are RRP+Black+1 auto strain due to Adversary 2 + SGS.

Back around to 3 PCs. First person up gets a boost from Fatima.

Seeing someone assaulting his partner and not looking at him Duke tries to get his attention by taking a bite out of crime. In the confusion Max moves in for another bout of blows.
OOC:
If Duke counts for the boost 7 damage otherwise 6 damage with a threat, Max 5 damage and an advantage or if Duke doesn't count for the boost 6 damage and 2 adv push to the next PC as 2 boost die. So 7/5 damage or 6/6 damage. Sidenote Counter Strike is on my list too after next XP doll out.

Hank weaves past Guy and says to Mahoney. "Look, chump. The jig is up. I'd tell you to surrender, but I can't pass up the opportunity to knock that smug smile off your face." Hank feints low with a kick, then lunges forward with a spinning back-fist.
OOC:
Taking a maneuver to aim, then punching. Also adding Max's 2 boosts.

Hot damn! That's a net success of 1 Triumph, 2 advantages. I'll use the Triumph for a crit, and pass the 2 advantages to the next PC.

OOC:
We can go with 7/5 damage. This guy has very high soak (you all notice he's wearing something akin to a flak vest), so you might also take that into account. (You're whittling him down, but damaging equipment is always a valid strategy, too).
Dmitri and Mahoney both take their licks at roughly the same time: Dmitri gets another dog bite to the leg, followed quickly by a series of wallops from Max to the chest. Meanwhile, across the bay at the entry to the back room, Mahoney's defenses can't stop a backhand to the gut. He spits blood and enters a coughing fit before wheezing out, "Knew I shoulda given up smoking..."
OOC:
Critical Injury 81: Winded (Average [PP]): Cannot voluntarily suffer strain to activate abilities or take extra maneuvers.

Guy's turn. He gets 2 boosts from Hank. I'm going to rule that there's no Flanking bonus unless Guy takes the maneuvers necessary to enter the room, though, since the doorway is preventing you both from double teaming him at this point.

OOC:
BTW, I forgot to mention damage. Should be 6 damage plus the crit.
Oct 6, 2020 2:16 pm
OOC:
Do I see anyone else in the warehouse who could use my help?
Oct 6, 2020 2:40 pm
OOC:
At this point, Tasha has corralled most of the hostages into the Pantones' van, or the hostages have simply fled for who knows where. Max, Duke, and Fatima seem to be handling themselves against the meathead enforcer, and Mahoney is the only other threat at the moment.
Oct 6, 2020 2:46 pm
Guy slides into the room, avoiding the flailing fighters, and looks for an opening to get Mahoney into a submission hold.
OOC:
I'll spend the maneuvers to get into the room. Since I'm a grapple fighter I'm looking to get Mahoney into a submission hold. Let me know what the difficulty rating is and I'll roll it.
Oct 6, 2020 3:08 pm
OOC:
So, that's two maneuvers to get in (so 2 strain to you). We're ignoring Grappling rules to speed things up, so just roll versus his normal difficulty: RRP+Black, but you get three boosts now (2 from Hank, plus flanking). You take 1 strain for attacking, since he's still in his Supreme Guarded Stance.
Oct 6, 2020 3:22 pm
Guy rushes in to pin Mahoney.

Rolls

Grappling

1 Success, 8 Advantage, 1 Failure, 5 Threat, 1 Despair

Total: 3 Advantage, 1 Despair

Oct 6, 2020 3:24 pm
OOC:
Weird the result says 1 despair, but no despair showed up on a die lol.
