OOC:
Yeah, Gamer's Plane's dice roller doesn't represent Triumphs and Despairs for some reason, and it doesn't tally them properly, either. I've asked for this to be fixed, but so far, the devs have left it be.

At any rate, that roll ends up failing (the Despair counts as 1 Failure, too.) How do you want to use the 3 advantages before I dole out the despair?
Oct 7, 2020 12:36 pm
OOC:
Spend two to add a setback to Mahoney's next action, spending one to add a boost to ally's next action.
Oct 7, 2020 1:58 pm
OOC:
OK, got it!
Guy barrels toward the lanky cop, but finds the man is all too ready for him. Mahoney sidesteps just in time, grabs Guy by the neck and shoulder, and nearly flips the older man onto his back. Mahoney seems a bit less stable on his feet as a result, but the worse outcome is that Guy feels his shoulder pop loudly, sending pain down his arm and up his neck.
OOC:
So, the Despair = Counterattack pops, which means Guy suffers 6 Wounds. I checked over this to be sure, but "suffers Wounds" is different from "takes damage" in that "suffers Wounds" means that Soak doesn't apply. With your recent painkiller, doesn't this push you 1 below your threshold?

If so, we can have you fall prone and put some pressure on the others to heal you with a Medicine check. You could take over playing Fatima while they do so. Alternatively, you want to spend a Story Point to let Soak apply to that counterattacks? That would keep you on your feet, but it's going to be imperative that you heal up more, as you'll fall with another hit like that!

OOC:
Yep, Guy would be at 1 wound over his threshold. I'll wait until the following round if anyone can Med check me.
Oct 8, 2020 2:16 pm
OOC:
Roger that. I'll get the NPC turns up later today. Meanwhile, going over threshold is an automatic crit. Your crit = 65 (Slightly Dazed): Character is disoriented (+Blk on all checks) until the critical injury is healed.

The thud of Guy hitting the concrete floor echoes so loudly that Max can hear it from across the bay. The enforcer seems to hear it, too, as he turns briefly to see what happened. Fatima drops the lead pipe, circles for an opening, then lunges toward the bigger man in a headlock. The attack looks exhausting, but it seems to have worked. The brute struggles to break free, and Fatima underscores her dominance by dislocating his shoulder with a snap.

"I've got this guy!" she tells Max. "Sounds like your friend might need your help!"
OOC:
Using some of her special abilities: Prepare maneuver x 2, plus Frenzied Attack (2 upgrades for 2 strain), then Choke Submission with Guy's passed boost.

Forgot Inaccurate 3.

With Mix It Up (+1 Success, +1 Advantage), that becomes 2 Success, 6 Advantage = 9 damage w/Pierce 3 + crit + Ensnare.

Crit 106 = Horrific Injury. Agility is lowered by 1 until healed.

The larger mean screams in pain as he tries to break free of Fatima's grasp. Remarkably, perhaps driven by pure adrenaline, he manages to do so.
OOC:
So, y'all can use this 4 threat creatively if you want, or it could be used to just drop this guy once and for all. Up to you.

"Guy!" Hank shouts as he watches Guy hit the floor. "You're gonna pay for that, you crooked slimeball!"
OOC:
I don't remember when I decided to lean into cheesy 80's-90's action movie dialogue, but I regret nothing.

My vote would be to give us a bit of an edge against Mahoney, because it seems like Fatima's got this guy covered. Maybe a free maneuver for Max to disengage and just a couple strain against the Enforcer instead?
Oct 9, 2020 1:08 pm
OOC:
Can Duke bite Enforcer in the bum now, if the threat helps doing that awesome.
Oct 9, 2020 1:36 pm
OOC:
If we're doing that, we should just use the threats to drop him.
Oct 9, 2020 2:05 pm
OOC:
He's literally 2 away from dropping, so we can do all of the above. Max can take a free maneuver for the other 2 advantage.
The huge man doesn't seem to realize that Duke still has a grip on the seat of his pants, so as he pulls away from Fatima, the dog throws him off balance. He falls headfirst onto the lead pipe, his head hitting it with a clang. He doesn't move afterward.

"Get over there!" Fatima tells Max.
Oct 9, 2020 2:09 pm
Mahoney rolls his eyes at Hank's outburst. "Slimeball. I like that. I mean, isn't a slimeball someone who might do... this?" Before Hank realizes what's happening, Mahoney whips out a shock prod like the ones Jimmy's crew was using. The jolt hurts as the prod finds the larger man's exposed flesh. But then Mahoney drops the device, apparently now useless, and slips back behind the desk on the other side of the room.
OOC:
Using his "Cheater" ability: 2 strain, Hard Skulduggery check... So, ouch. That's 12 damage to Hank before Soak. Defense doesn't apply, as this is a once-per-encounter special ability. Soak works, though. He then disengages and moves over to the desk.

Top of the round. PCs all up.

OOC:
Wait, would my crit on him prevent him from doing this? Or was that 2 strain for me?

Critical Injury 81: Winded (Average [PP]): Cannot voluntarily suffer strain to activate abilities or take extra maneuvers.
Oct 9, 2020 2:15 pm
OOC:
D'oh. You're right! I'll delete the post. Gotta get to work now, so stay tuned for his turn.
Oct 9, 2020 9:04 pm
OOC:
Take 2.
Mahoney rolls his eyes at Hank's outburst. "Slimeball. I like that. I mean, isn't a slimeball someone who might do... this?" Before Hank realizes what's happening, Mahoney sucker punches him in the gut with a one-two body blow. The hits are fierce, but they don't do much to slow Hank down. Noticing this, Mahoney's eyes widen, and he slinks away, jumping over the desk at the back of the room and putting as much furniture between himself and Hank as possible.
OOC:
Only 5 damage, which Hank will Soak (so can't crit either). He'll use 2 advantage for an immediate free maneuver to disengage, then use his normal free maneuver to take cover behind the desk. Using the 3 other advantage to give him +1 defense till the end of his next turn (so 2 setbacks on attacks against him for cover + defense).

Top of the round. PCs all up.

Noice! That felt like a throwaway crit at the time, but that made a huge difference.
Oct 10, 2020 12:10 am
OOC:
Yeah, no voluntary strain is huge for a Nemesis!
Oct 11, 2020 2:52 pm
"You ain't gettin' away that easy! Hank circles around the desk, feinting with his chain before lunging in for a jab.
OOC:
Dang. I think I'll use the advantages to give the next PC 3 boosts. Whatever opening I just gave Mahoney for that despair distracts him so that the next person has better luck.

In his haste, Hank overlooks a wheeled desk chair flanking the crooked cop. It throws the big guy's momentum off just enough that his fists flail through the air harmlessly as he stumbles into a tall, rusty filing cabinet next to the desk. He almost catches himself, but then he's falling backward, and the filing cabinet is falling toward him. The next thing he knows, Hank's on the ground, pinned by the cabinet with its top drawer extended over his neck.
OOC:
So, to get back up is going to take Hank's next action: Average (PP) Athletics to lift the filing cabinet off. Coordination could work, too (PP).

3 boosts to Max, who presumably will want to heal Guy?
Oct 13, 2020 1:35 pm
Max moving in followed by Duke looks around clenching his jaw, "Duke, White Collar... Mayonaise." before going to Guy first while Duke dives under the desk to initial Office Combat.
OOC:
Guy's roll is going to be rough btw so upgraded Story Point. So with Surgeon 3 wounds back, 3 boost to the next PC and 1 setback to Mahone aka Mayonaise. Duke doesn't do a lot but biting snapping cop dog from under a desk is weird in a fight.
OOC:
GM edit: Duke missed a setback on Mahoney.
