You split up and set your counter-ambush in motion. Kel and Zachary, you sneak forward up towards the top of the bluff on the left side and Octavia and Kirsk, you trudge forward trying to project obliviousness while keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. As you walk in between the two bluffs, you all of a sudden hear someone shout NOW!, and you see a slew of rocks tumble down towards you. Kel and Zachary, you hear the shout come from much closer and realise that you are only about 30 ft away from 4 men, they’re all dressed in cultist gear although one of them looks slightly more like...well, Zachary...slighter of build and looking more like a priest than anything else. You also notice rocks falling from the other side of the bluff.
OOC:
Octavia and Kirsk, give me Dex saves please. Kel and Zachary you get a surprise round, I’ll roll initiative in the morning.
Jun 15, 2020 9:18 pm

Kirsk and Octavia, because of your alertness you manage to dive out of the way early. Kirsk, you however don't manage to get away completely and a big rock lands hard on your shoulder. The pain shoots up into your arm as you look up and see faces on both sides.
OOC:
Kirsk, you take half-damage (10). Kirsk and Octavia, you can do ranged attacks but they are in 3/4 cover which means they get a +5 to their AC. You can scramble up the rocks with a movement, it requires no check but it's difficult terrain so you will use your whole movement and probably won't be in melee range as you get up there. It appears that there are 4 men on either side.

I'm gonna try something new with the initiative. I'll roll as normal, but whoever gets highest makes their whole side go first. So either you all get to attack first or they do. Zachary had the highest initiative, so you all get to go first. Kel and Zachary, you get to do two turns thanks to your surprise round.

Kel's face takes on a dire grimace as she launches herself forward on her long legs, closing the distance quickly. She goes straight for the slighter one. She liked Zachary, and had no ill will against magic, but when on the enemies side, magic-users should be brought down with extreme prejudice.

She launches herself into a series of blows, focusing on one and then moving to the next when they fall. Shortsword and kick, shortsword, kick and punch.

With her final punch, she lets out a shout of rage, and a gout of fire blasts forth from her fist, encompassing her arm as she drives it into her enemies face.

Kel, you run up very silently. Just as you're about to hit the slighter one, he turns and sees you and incredibly deftly dodges your slash with your sword and the following kick. He smiles cockily, maybe expecting you to pause before slashing again, but you just keep going in a fluid motion, coil your body and stabs him in the chest over your own shoulder, twist your own body around and kick the pommel upwards, sending the sword slashing all the way up to his throat. The momentum goes right into your fist which engulfs in flames as you hammer it straight through the skull of one of the cultists.
OOC:
There are two cultists left on this side, 3 cultists and 1 spellcasting-looking fella on the other

OOC:
My God Kel! You are a punching machine! That caster is sure to bring us trouble, I am gonna get rid of him.
Zachary gets up after Kel lashes out to the cultist.

Opening his book, Zach starts making sigils with his right hand while reciting an enchantment, his words spoken in an almost giberish manner.

The spellbook floats and points towards the similar clothed cultist and emmits a green light.

This sickness corrupts your body!

A green ray of energy is shot, emanating from inside the book pages.
OOC:
Casting Ray of Sickness, I am gonna roll a ranged spell attack. If it hits, the cultist is damages and gotta make a ConSave or be poisoned

You actually have a second action Zachary, due to your surprise round
The green ray shoots across the gap and hits the spellcaster straight in the chest. He keels over and vomits profusely, the vomit soon giving way for blood and he sinks dead to the ground.

Bolstered by the healing, Kirsk moves into the trench into the middle of the cultists and smacks his hammer onto his shield. "What weaklings are this that rolls rocks? Come down here cowards and face a real challenge!"
OOC:
Thanks for the healing, that's pretty powerful... Kirsk is issuing a Champion Challenge, a DC 11 wisdom

OOC:
Rolling wisdom saves
Three of the cultists sneer at Kirsk's challenge and draw shortbows and fire at him. The other two target Kel and Octavia with their shortswords. Zachary's spell hits the one going after Kel, but he just grits his teeth and shrugs it off.

Kirks, one of the arrows miss completely, another one bounces off of your shield, but the third one just knicks your left leg. Kel, the cultist you're facing slashes wildly and you don't get away in time to avoid it hitting your upper arm. Octavia, you expertly deflect the cultist's sword with your spear.
