Thanks! Dungeon World’s druid seems much more spiritual than D&D 5e’s, so I was trying to find a fun way to reflect that!

Yeah I really like the way you've flavored Teo's transformations!

Happy New Year!

And just wanted to say I'm loving all the posts everyone! Super creative and fun to read. I'm really enjoying the start of this game and looking forward to seeing how the story progresses!

FYI: I suggested that we might be able to add a new member to our game (HERE). I thought we still have room for one more player and we haven't gone very far yet, so thought we should offer. Sometimes it's hard for new players to find a game.

We could meet them in Syrinlya, or their ship was also attacked by the creature and are Mayday/SOS and we pick them up on the way, assuming we survive this encounter, or maybe they rescue us if we don't! Or we can pretend they've always been on board since we haven't really gone that far yet.

Anyways, sorry if I overstepped, but thought it's good to be inclusive with new members.

Sure I don’t mind taking on another player if they’re interested! I’m not sure if I could run with more than 4, but having a 4th player works fine for me.

If we do I think it should be once this encounter is finished or about to finish, so any of those ideas about meeting in the outpost or on another ship would work. We’ll see what akorn says about DW.

Sounds good. I saw you posted in their Intro thread to invite them. That's great. We'll see if they're interested.

Hello! Good news: I was! Let me just read through everything and then I’ll make a character pitch? And thank you so much for the invite!

Excellent! Welcome aboard! Let us know if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas for a character once you feel oriented.

Welcome akorn!
Jan 5, 2022 2:47 am
Thank you both! I have a few immediate ideas:

1. The NPC Helga is on the ship with you all already, so she could potentially be a character option. (Of course, there are hireling rules and it’s certainly fun to have NPCs connected to a particular character. Not every named person needs a human behind them.)

2. It’s an icy story! But a fiery one too. A salamander Immolator might be fun. What’s the effect of fire on the Frigid Woe? We don’t know yet! I don’t know the Wildemount setting beyond the 5e character options (I ride for weird races), but a Dragonborn could be a reasonable analogue and I know they have those.

3. It would be the most complicated DW class I’ve ever played—though the pace of PbP gives me some time to memorize spells as a player—but a Cleric seems like someone who would be drawn to this problem and trying to solve it, and one could easily make a compelling case for roughly half the domains!

Any thoughts? Anything you’d prefer I cleave to, or avoid? I’d like to fit in as smoothly as possible both for me and for you all.

Ooh, all of those sounds like good ideas! I think @Chalrytharendir would be alright with having Helga become a PC? He was just naming a few people on the crew.

I have a slight bias for the Immolator, since I do already have that sheet made up:
[ +- ] Immolator Sheet
But definitely go with your gut on this!

The Wildemount setting is mostly just the flavor-text of things - the gameplay should all be Dungeon World, so I'd say Dragonborns are really Salamanders in this world.

You're definitely welcome to take Helga and turn her into a full PC, but I like all three ideas! I can see them all being fun and will add well to our party, so like Data said, go with your gut, which ever you're feeling more drawn to and if you can't decide, test out the dice and roll for it!

If you haven't used the dice yet, below is the roller. Select "Basic," click "Add," fill in "Reason" (e.g. Choosing Character), fill in "Roll" (e.g. 1d3). Make sure you have something in the Text box (anything, it just can't be empty) and then click "Post."

Welcome to the madhouse, akorn!

Thank you, Jabes! Happy to be aboard, massive ice-fish attack notwithstanding 🤪

Truth be told like our illustrious DM I think I’m leaning Immolator—I like that it has no direct analogue in D&D, I like the slightly revolutionary flavor, and I like the way that dovetails with the setting’s Ravenite Dragonborn.

What I’ve always wondered is how bonds work when a character enters a session midway through… Do we start with one? Are they all "who is this guy?"-themed? Idk!!
Jan 5, 2022 2:38 pm
Well, all the characters have been around this area for a while, so they might have met before easily.

If you still go with Helga (or maybe even more likely, the NPC Firemaster Byron who stokes the Symphony’s furnaces a short while back) you can just jump in as having always been on the ship (maybe just below deck when the attack happened)?
Jan 5, 2022 3:07 pm
Ohh, I love that actually! Firemaster Byron!

Here’s my pitch for Mance and you all: Firemaster Byron is Byra Nashek—Byron for short. She trained as an apprentice firemaster since her adolescence, a position she was initially reluctant to fill.

She felt that her people had a future beyond labor, that they’d spent too long under the yokes of harsh masters, and she clashed regularly with the veteran who was teaching her.

Byron was assigned to Mance’s ship as punishment (all that ice!) but it turned out to be the greatest thing that could have ever happened to her, because the dude is just so cool (pun not intended). The ship’s crew became like a family to her, welcoming her into their fold and even willing to indulge her occasional political rants.

Byron learned that labor can be for the good of a collective who share in what it creates, that it’s not just work when you’re doing it with the people for whom you care.

She’s still got that spark of anger, though: you need to earn her respect. Mance and Bonepipe and Helga have, but there’s some room to grow with Teo (who I, Andrew, the player, love and think is awesome, but to whom the character might not yet have a great attachment).

Does this feel OK to you guys?

That works for me! From the Immolator's bonds I volunteer Bonepipe for
Quote:
I will teach ___________ the true meaning of sacrifice.
Neither of the two unfilled Barbarian bonds seem to fit Byron. I don't know, what do you think?
Quote:
___________ is puny and foolish, but amusing to me.

___________ is always getting into trouble—I must protect them from themselves.

I gladly accept your volunteership! 🤝

I could see Byron being a lovable troublemaker in the eyes of the crew, so maybe the second bond? It’s the sort of thing that would happen mostly on shore, where people hadn’t yet heard her schtick, but I don’t think a bit of insubordination is beyond her, and especially if it turned out OK in the past.

Bonepipe is a rebel too, though. So that's not the sort of thing to make him feel protective LOL!

What if I changed "Teo's ways are strange and confusing. to "Byron's ways..."
and then change the bond with Teo to "Teo is always getting into trouble—I must protect them from themselves."

What do you think, @aquafina and @akorn?

Oh, and if @Data will allow, of course!
