To be clear, Adan still wasn't past the threshold, so your intention was to slam the door in his face, yes? With the party inside the shrine?

Edit: Also, was anyone carrying a light source? Lantern, torch, glowing spear, anything?
Dec 13, 2016 8:29 pm
If there had been a need for light prior to this moment, Domarc would have cast light on a rock or other small piece of whatever that he could hold in his hand.

If we need light after the door slams, he will cast it on the altar.
Dec 13, 2016 8:38 pm
Oh, erp, no. I thought he had come inside. Nevermind.
Dec 13, 2016 9:20 pm
Adan smiles. "When you tell a man there are things older than the gods themselves, they rebuke you out of ignorance. When you tell a man the order of the Werld that we take to be natural is a false construct, they lash out in fear. This is why the dearest knowledge is kept secret from those who cannot understand it." He takes another step forward, so that he stands almost at the threshold of the shrine. He lowers his voice to a whisper, but all of you inside the shrine can hear him clearly. "Do you want to know? Take the mark upon yourself. Be baptized in ice which has no memory of water. Let the Servant be your master. We will teach you what the crown means." His mouth twists up into a smirk. "Well. At least consider it, won't you?"

The door slams shut, and before any of you can react, you hear a loud thump on the other side of it.
Dec 13, 2016 10:18 pm
"Well," says Domarc. "Whatever he is, he knows how to make an exit."
Dec 13, 2016 10:25 pm
The stone Domarc enchanted with magical light suddenly, rapidly grows dark.

All of you feel a bitter chill as the temperature in the shrine abruptly drops.

A faint, wet, whispery sound starts to emanate from the walls.
Dec 13, 2016 10:25 pm
Zangua tries to open the door, imagining what might be affixed to it.
Dec 13, 2016 10:28 pm
The door doesn't open. It feels stuck.
Dec 13, 2016 10:35 pm
OOC:
Can we see anything, or are we in the black if we don't have darksight?
"I am starting to feel more certain in naming this Adan as a foe."
Dec 13, 2016 10:47 pm
None of you can see anything. The ground starts to feel uneven beneath your feet, and the gurgling susurrations grow louder. The air in the shrine becomes painfully frigid.

Edit: Each of you takes cold damage as indicated below. We might retcon Leth as being back at the Gahmez estate if he doesn't show up to post during the shrine excursion, though.

Rolls

Mordred cold damage - (2d6)

(66) = 12

Domarc cold damage - (2d6)

(44) = 8

Zangua cold damage - (2d6)

(12) = 3

Felor cold damage - (2d6)

(51) = 6

Leth cold damage - (2d6)

(24) = 6

Dec 13, 2016 10:57 pm
Zangua tries to break down the door, at the very least to give the group a means of egress.

Rolls

Strength Check - (1d20+4)

(3) + 4 = 7

Dec 13, 2016 11:03 pm
Zangua tries to drive his shoulder into the door, but between the uncertain footing and the deep chill he ends up just sort of ineffectually throwing himself against it, and it remains shut.
Dec 13, 2016 11:16 pm
Domarc casts Enhance Ability on Zangua, granting him Bull's Strength.
Enhance Ability
2nd level transmutation

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour.
You touch a creature and bestow upon it a magical enhancement. Choose one of the following effects; the target gains that effect until the spell ends.
Bear’s Endurance. The target has advantage on Constitution checks. It also gains 2d6 temporary hit points, which are lost when the spell ends.
Bull’s Strength. The target has advantage on Strength checks, and his or her carrying capacity doubles.
Cat’s Grace. The target has advantage on Dexterity checks. It also doesn’t take damage from falling 20 feet or less if it isn’t incapacitated.
Eagle’s Splendor. The target has advantage on Charisma checks.
Fox’s Cunning. The target has advantage on Intelligence checks.
Owl’s Wisdom. The target has advantage on Wisdom checks.
Dec 13, 2016 11:23 pm
Zangua can try again in a moment; does anyone else want to take an action in the meantime?
Dec 14, 2016 12:22 pm
Mordred has darkvision, FYI.

"Get back, Zangua!" Mordred casts Fire Bolt on the door.
Quote:
You hurl a mote of fire at a creature or object within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 fire damage. A flammable object hit by this spell ignites if it isn’t being worn or carried. This spell’s damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10).

Rolls

Attack roll against door? - (1d20+3)

(10) + 3 = 13

Damage - (1d10)

(1) = 1

Dec 14, 2016 8:50 pm
Mordred manages to singe the door, but it's still standing firm.

The pressure in the air changes and you all start to feel a slimy yet abrasive wriggling sensation against whatever skin you have left exposed. Everybody make a Dexterity saving throw!
Dec 14, 2016 8:54 pm
"For someone that wants a peaceful solution, their methods leave a lot to be desired," deadpans Zangua, before charging the door once again.

Rolls

Dexterity save - (1d20+2)

(19) + 2 = 21

Strength check, Advantage - (1d20+4, 1d20+4)

1d20+4 : (19) + 4 = 23

1d20+4 : (15) + 4 = 19

Dec 14, 2016 9:06 pm
OOC:
Oh goody, saving throws

Rolls

Dex saving throw - (1d20+5)

(9) + 5 = 14

Dec 14, 2016 10:34 pm
This time, Zangua knocks the door right off its hinges and lands on top of it as he, and the door, slam to the ground. He flinches; even the darkness of the city at night is disorientingly bright after the unnatural blackness he'd just been immersed in.

Zangua escapes further damage, but Domarc takes acid damage as rolled below. Still need a saving throw from Mordred; I'll roll for Felor for now and if Leth doesn't show up in time to roll he's officially back at the estate and not on this excursion.

Edit: Felor is unharmed as well.

Rolls

Domarc acid damage - (2d6)

(11) = 2

Felor DEX saving throw - (1d20+1)

(19) + 1 = 20

Dec 14, 2016 10:39 pm
Domarc hustles out of the shrine, trying not to step on Zangua as he goes.
