"I dont think ill be able to join you today for a tour. I promised ol Betsy (Im just going to say the Dimetrodon said her name was Betsy when i was talking with her if thats ok) some food for doing such a great job in the races this morning."

Ha'aroo turns to the debt collector, "Could you please come by the Thundering Lizard tomorrow morning? We should have an answer for you then. I want to make sure all of our group would like to do it before we make a decision. Im sure if the wage was increased to 20% they may be more inclined to take the offer." Ha'aroo tries to haggle the price of the job up since he has learned yesterday that this is a haggling community.

OOC:

I picked 20% thinking that haggling up would be the same as haggling down. Option A is 50% of option B.

Nebula plays along and seems pensive, but internally she truly wouldn't mind a few extra coin - she might need it if they were to have an all-out smash on their final day!

They did understood you but as trained for racing animals they don't have a concept of love or hate racing. It is routine for them.

No worries ill try to start putting spells in the spoiler from now on. The haggle from the morning session should take Ha'aroo to 3 successful haggles so for the afternoon session I rolled normal persuasion checks.

After Ha'aroo talks to K’lahu about getting 20% pay for the job he makes his way to the market. First he tries to buy 1 silver's worth of meat for half off and then he will try to haggle for the second time in the afternoon for some clothes. For the clothes he is going to do some aggressive haggling to get the clothes price down. He is going to try to buy 2 sets.

Ha'aroo fail to find anyone who would sell him piece of a meat. Whole chicken at full price of 4 sp is smallest you could buy in the market.

I've added a post to the "Rules and Policies" to provide details on purchasing options. I consider a whole chicken/turkey/pig purchase mundane at Chult, but purchase a piece of a mean not so.
Clother are certainly mundane just as waterskin. For anything else you have to ask DM

With no one seeming interested in debt collecting, Pacan seeks out a guided dinosaur tour, excited to ride another dino in a different capacity.

Removed 1 gp from inventory. 2sp for half off chicken and 8sp for 80% off 2 sets of clothes. Does Ha'aroo have time after the purchase to go back to the race track to give ol Betsy a proper thank you by giving her a chicken before the evening session?

Additional question. Will looking like the locals help with future haggle checks?

One more thing lol wanted to check how and if a character can gauge enemy strength. Would a character be able to insight to see if the opponent(s) in front of them looks to be an easy, medium, hard or impossible challenge?

Jim will buy small items 1gp worth so they are touch more costly than the cheap copper stuff. This is done while on the tour of course.

As the trio (Jim, Nubula, and Travers) travel with him on the guide tour. (If Jim has to pay for their way, he will.) He of course gets treats while walking.

Jim looks over some clothing, Nubula. These would be nice but terribly expensive. while touring.

To Travers, "Waterskins are nice but I want a metal drinking flask myself. Perhaps later I will look for one." while touring.

You can't to tour and haggling at the same time. Even though you are traveling marketplace, the haggling itself take you at least an hour. That is while social interaction process including discussing family situation and such.

1. You will get fill description of all city locations (will post it in separate thread tomorrow)
2. Jim learns what Pacan learned, but additionally he is introduced Chult specific items purchasable (see below).
3. Jim learns that legal market is split several among merchant prices, each controlling it's own niche. You remember that your patron Syndra doing business with one of the merchant prices

Canoe
A canoe can be purchased in Port Nyanzaru for 50 gp. It holds up to six Medium creatures and has a maximum speed of 2 mph. It is otherwise identical to a rowboat.

The sale of canoes in Port Nyanzaru is controlled by the merchant prince Ekene-Afa.

Insect Repellent
Insect repellent can be purchased in Port Nyanzaru in two forms: blocks of incense or a greasy salve. The merchant prince Kwayothé controls the sale of both. Neither kind of repellent protects against giant insects or the vile swarms of insects described in the Creatures and Monsters section of this adventure.

A block of incense sells for 1 sp. When lit, it burns for 8 hours and repels normal insects within a 20-foot-radius centered on it.

A gourd or vial of salve, which sells for 1 gp, contains 20 applications of odorless grease. One application protects its wearer against normal insects for 24 hours. The salve is waterproof so it doesn’t wash off in rain.

Rain Catcher
A rain catcher is a simple contraption consisting of a 5-foot-square leather tarp and a wooden frame with legs. When the tarp is stretched across the wooden frame, it forms a basin that can catch 2 gallons of drinking water per inch of rainfall and hold up to 8 gallons. The tarp and wooden frame fold up for easy transport. A rain catcher costs 1 gp and weighs 5 pounds.

Merchant prince Ekene-Afa controls the sale of rain catchers in Port Nyanzaru.

Tej
Tej is an amber-colored, fermented drink made from honey. It’s more common and popular in Chult than beer or ale. A mug of tej costs 4 cp in Port Nyanzaru or 6 cp in Fort Beluarian. A 1-gallon cask costs 2 sp in the city or 3 sp at the fort.

Sale of tej is controlled by the merchant prince Kwayothé.

Yklwa
A yklwa (pronounced YICK-ul-wah) is a simple melee weapon that is the traditional weapon of Chultan warriors. A yklwa consists of a 3-foot wooden shaft with a steel or stone blade up to 18 inches long. It costs 1 gp, and it deals 1d8 piercing damage on a hit. Although it has the thrown weapon property, the yklwa is not well balanced for throwing (range 10/30 ft.).

Meanwhile you could describe your actions for second night at Chult. Still the same rules - if you drink, roll con save. In any case chose what to roll: int/wis/cha roll twice and describe your actions I will decide if any skill proficiency apply and if adv./disadv. apply.

Nothing, even local dress affect haggle mechanics. It could however remove disadvantage on any other cha checks you may be doing in scope of the RP
gauge enemy strength - good questions. I know there are some subclass features that could help with that, but specifically for ToA it may be a good idea to introduce additional mechanics. Still if the question is about Gladiator, I would say Travers due to his background would know that an average gladiator would be around "CR 5 monster", but unless he see him fighting he will not be able to say if the particular one is above or below average.

Later that evening, sporting her new loose-fit outfit, Nebula decides to take the evening to know the people here a bit better. She takes a big mug of ale and sits down with anyone who'll listen. A bit of flirting never hurt conversation either.

Gotcha thank you. I was indeed referring to the gladiator as well as to see if I would be able to size up some ruffians that may want to join us in this debt collection since one of our members has disappeared and im not sure if my sister feels up to the job.

Ha'aroo will go back to Undril Silvertusk and let her know that he found out that she might be able to rent out a dinosaur as they may be able to travel through the jungles better than a horse however it will be much more expensive then getting a horse. He regrets to inform her that they are only there for 5 more days and judging by her map they would not be able to make it down there and back in less than 5 days.

He will be spending the rest of the night sizing up some people at the bar and see if anyone will want to join them. Ha'aroo will be looking for at least two people (4 at the most) that he believes is as strong as each member in our group or stronger. If its an insight check it will be plus 2 as I have proficiency on that skill.

Afterwards he will check the hidding places for the gold he hid in his room to make sure no one came in and robbed him during the day and then go to bed.

To Jim "a metal canteen would be useful if we were heading into the jungle for sure but for just around town this will do."

After discussing the job with Ha'aroo Travers will agree they may need help and assist Ha'aroo in finding someone.

I've put the nfo gathered during dino tour in this new thread. That is a dump of info not directly required though some hints are hidden there, so it is up to players if they want to read it or not.

When Pacan returns he shares that he changed 4 dinos during the guided tours - it is actually too exhausting for a dino to carry a man around more than hour ( halfling or gnome would probably be fine).

Debt collector K’lahu answer: I guess you don't understand debt business or would embarrass me suggesting that I would give you 1/5 of my money just for company. I believe some treasure seekers will soon return to the city, they does it for 10%.
