It's quite natural for a boy to dream, but does he know of the less luxurious parts of the job? Many adventures do not return intact, whether they be mental or physical wounds. Some do not return at all. It takes more than a dream to be fit for that post.
And for yourselves, would you prefer he stay farming and be resentful of your restrictions, or forming a supportive and informed decision where he will be grateful for your concerns?
Well Petor, it seems your values misalign with your date's. Before you break things off, maybe ask if there were other issues leading them to that choice. Not everyone can afford the rich part of town after all!

Moving forward, if who pays the bill matters to you, you should make sure you and your dinner partner are clear on your expectations. Communication is healthy! and sets your budding relationship off on the right foot.
