OOC Discussion

Hullo, folks,

This thread does what it says on the tin. This thread is for Out Of Character discussion and what-not.

Hullo, folks,

A couple of questions that I will ask right off the bat...

1) How many of the folks signed up to play have a copy of the Primeval RPG Rulebook, either in physical form or PDF?

2) How many folks signed up here have some degree of familiarity with the PRIMEVAL tv series?
Feb 10, 2015 4:01 pm
Working on both now that I joined this game. I have played DWAITAS though and the system is similar.

Indeed. Primeval is much more deadly however, but one should expect that with dinosaurs, prehistoric beasties, and the like! :)

I know nothing, Jon Snow, re: rpg or tv versions. Had a look for the Primeval show in current broadcasting, but the Great Canadian Broadcast Firewall blocks all attempts to view. I might buy the first ep on iTunes just to get the flavour.
Feb 10, 2015 5:50 pm
I've seen the entire TV series both UK and Canadian versions and I have the physical and PDF rulebooks. I don't have the Companion however.
Feb 10, 2015 7:20 pm
Don't have the book and haven't seen the show but a long break is comming up so I'll be able to catch a couple eps to check it out.

That's fine, Qralloq, and believe it or not, knowing nothing won't hurt you too much in the game. Watching the first episode or two can't hurt, as it'll give you the "feel" of the tv series, but I believe that Space channel here in Canada is showing the series on either Saturday or Sunday at some ungodly hour.

Once I've set the threads up for character creation and the like, I'll take you through the process step by step. No worries. :)

Gavken says:

No worries, since we're using just the main rulebook for the purpose of character creation. With a couple of minor modifications, such as increasing the cost on a couple of the Traits. Again, nothing major.

As I mentioned above to Qralloq, not having the book or having seen the show won't hurt your ability to play in the game. If you do get a chance to watch any of the PRIMEVAL UK episodes, that is always a good thing. :)

Hullo, folks,

Just for folks who are new to the game and wondering how difficult (not!) creating a character for the Primeval PbP game will be/is, I thought I would post this up. Here's the link to the an entry on my LiveJournal blog, and the detailed creation of a character for the game...

http://jkahane.livejournal.com/600252.html

Note the amount of background information and detail is a bit skimpier than what I'll want for the PbP game here, but the character generation process is adequately detailed here.

Hope that helps alleviate any feelings of the system being difficult to work with, and that it encourages a few people to get into the game who might have been on the fence. :)

Thoughts and comments on the character are more than welcome. (And for the record, I've posted this character up to the Character Library here as well.)

John - please note that I'm going to be away for three days from Thursday to Saturday this week. I will catch up with any character creation stuff needed on Sunday.

Uno) I had a PDF but am looking for a dead tree version of the game.

Due) Well, I didn't attend Primeval college and don't have degree. :( Though, I have watched 36 episodes of the series!

I know that you can order a copy of the hardcover from the folks at Cubicle 7, and you should be able to find a copy at Noble Knight down in the U.S.. Fandom II here in Ottawa may have a copy as well, or some other on-line sellers will have it perhaps.

Having watched the 36 episodes of PRIMEVAL is a good thing, you know. :)

In order, I have both the rulebook and the PDF. Also I've watched the entire series and have the first three seasons on DVD. I haven't read the novelizations, nor have I played the computer game.

Excellent news to hear about having the rulebook and being familiar with the tv series. :)

(I've actually dug out the DVDs of the series as I'm going to watch them again for "mood setting" purposes. :)

I finished Series 1 today. Hoping to get through Series 2 by the end of the week since the game takes place during the time of Series 2. May watch more after that as I am enjoying it, but figured getting that far would help me play the game better.

Glad you're enjoying the series. It's quite good! :)

The game will be taking place during the early part of Series 2, though it could be set earlier than that for reasons that will become clear in game and from the first couple of episodes of Series 2.

As soon as you come up with a Character Concept, don't forget to PM me with it. :)

Hullo, folks,

Quick question for everyone...

Currently, the PRIMEVAL PbP is set up as a Public game. Would folks prefer that I change this to Private, so that only folks in the game can see the posts and everything, or are you folks alright with the game being Public?

I'll go with folks' preference on this.

Thanks. :)
Feb 20, 2015 4:05 pm
Hullo, folks,

Now that I've got the hang of Dropbox (with the help of one of our fellow gamers here! Thanks, mate! :)), I've edited the two messages in the Character Generation thread that deal with files that you'll need for the various Steps in the process so far. If you had problems seeing the contents of the files, hopefully this should fix that up. And it should make our lives easier in future, and will simplify things for any new players who join the game. :)

Hi John,
I honestly don't mind either way. It might be better to leave it public so that other folks that want to join can get a taste of the game.

That was my thinking on the matter, especially given the... obscurity of the game itself. But I'll leave this up to the rest of the folks involved with the game to decide.

I have nothing to hide. I personally think public games are important for the health of this community.

This is pretty much how I feel about the matter, so for the moment, the game will stay Public. :)

My character is handed in... let the killing begin!!!!

Hullo, folks,

Well, since all five of the starting player characters have been pretty much completed and are ready to go, I've posted up the Posting Rules for the PRIMEVAL: Tales of the Anomalies PbP game to the Game Play sub-forum (though you can't see that there's a Thread there). Rather than post it up as one large post, I've split it up into seven (7) posts to make it easier on folks' attention spans. :)

I'll give folks a couple of days to read through stuff and ask me questions about the material, if necessary, and then we'll get on with the game.

Looking forward to starting play with you guys! :)

Oh, and for the sake of argument and the fact that I want to see how it works...

Rolls

Just a test - (2d6+7)

(36) + 7 = 16

So, we ready to start now?

Just about, I would say. :)

I'm dealing with some Real Life(tm) stuff for the next day or so. but will be starting the game soon. Just was giving folks a bit of time to absorb the rules for posting and offer any comments or whatever about stuff. And to ask any questions they might have, of course. :)
Mar 11, 2015 12:15 am
Well John, I've been trying to digest the various rules things, but I'm not sure I can commit to 1 post every 1-2 days. I'm available most Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays--but the same can't be said for the weekend. Sometimes I have a free Saturday, but any lengthy chores and to-dos that stack up over the week can only be done then. A more reliable schedule for me is every 3-4 days. That's not to say I won't do what I can, but I don't have a lot of flexibility in my schedule.
Mar 11, 2015 12:38 am
As above
Mar 11, 2015 2:42 pm
Hullo, RIP, Azzorak,

That's not a problem, to be honest. While I would prefer folks to post as frequently as they can, as that would make the game play faster obviously, I'm flexible in terms of how often folks can post and when they can post. Being in other countries, other time zones, and stuff like that also comes into play. But we each have Real Life(tm) concerns as well, so that's not a problem.

All of that said, I'm fine with posting whenever you can, and as often as you can. If you feel that you'd rather not play, I'll understand that as well, though I'll be quite disappointed if you both decide that you can't play. So let me know what you want to do. :)
Mar 11, 2015 4:04 pm
Oh I am quite looking forward to this and I will put in as much as I can, but just wanted you to know it may not be as much as you had initially planned.

Hullo, RIP, Azzorak, everyone,

Glad to hear it. The game is about to commence.

What you will find in the Play Area now are two Preludes to the start of the game. Each of these is relevant to a separate plot that is ongoing. Once you read the two Preludes, you'll have a choice to make as to where you want to start and which plot you want to involve in to begin with.

Queue the PRIMEVAL opening theme and credits...

Got some Real Life going on right now. Should post my prelude post tomorrow in the AM if all goes well.

So any chance of seeing a prelude post sometime soon? The game's waiting on you to get it done before the two plots get going full throttle and all. Please. :)
Mar 22, 2015 10:34 am
Absolutely and sorry, just have a lot going on this week / weekend. Have it up ASAP, and should be delay free for a bit after this.
Mar 31, 2015 11:58 am
Any chance of having your post up soon Azzorak?
Mar 31, 2015 12:03 pm
Already worked it out with johnk. I am too busy right now so I advised him to go on without me for the moment.
Apr 1, 2015 3:29 am
Hullo, folks,

Just a quick post to apologise for the delay in the continuation of the opening sequences of the game. I've been very sick the last two weeks or so, and am hopefully starting to recover, but my head is not up to the rigours of computer use other than work at the moment. I'll get the game up and running as soon as I feel better.

Again, my apologies, folks. :)
Apr 3, 2015 10:34 pm
I understand John. I haven't been sick, but the last two weeks has been filled with some ups and downs—I've been behind on things like roleplaying too. Rest up and we can get on with it soon.

Unfortunately, it looks like we're losing Azzorak too.
May 23, 2015 3:08 pm
Hullo, folks,

I want to apologise to folks for the extremely long delay in getting this game back on track, but I've been dealing with a lot of personal health issues and some other stuff that has forced me up until now to slide the game literally onto the back burner so that I could deal with Real Life(tm) issues and the like.

I'd like to get the game back on track now, assuming those of you still here are interested in continuing on with the game.

So please get back to me if you'd like to continue on with the game.

Again, my apologies, folks. :)

Thanks.
