Ronny is taken aback by the sudden change of atmosphere. He stands up and grabs a tissue from inside his overalls, where his decent clothing lives, to hand to the woman. "I'm terribly sorry, ma'am. I'm not sure what ya mean. Was it summin I said? Are ya alright?" He decides to put a hand on her shoulder as a comforting gesture, then looks at Lio with a look of "What do we do?"
Aug 27, 2023 12:11 am
Lio mouths - don't know-
And gestures with his hand to Ronny that he has to keep going.

Helen looks embarrassed that you saw her crying, but tries to rally. You can see the wheels turning in her head as she considers lying to you.

She actually opens her mouth to start lying: "He was a bit sick, but he..." then the truth spills out in a rush. "He died!" She says, suddenly sitting down on a chair and looking despondent. There is no expression in her voice as she continues:

"I didn't tell anybody. I froze his body and just continued to 'do the work'. I helped him with most of it anyway and I don't know anything else. I couldn't get another job, and the pension is not enough. So I pretended he was still doing everything and no one noticed or cared."

She looks at you pleadingly. "You won't tell them, will you?" She begs. "I don't know what sort of trouble I will be in if they find out. And now, with all this talk of war... I just don't know what I am going to do. If someone comes and checks... But you are not Navy? Right? You won't tell them, right?"

What do you do?

Lio's mind is racing at a hundred kilometers an hour. It's like in one of those cartoons where a guy has an angel on one shoulder while on the other a tiny devil is whispering in his ear.

She FROZE her husband to keep getting his paycheck? did she cut him up in chunks of ... Body? Is she mental? Should I feel sad, I'm not feeling sad... Best to pretend. Can we use this to our advantage? She lost her husband , and you are thinking about using her?
But, why not, she is just as wrong in keeping his money.

''I'm sorry for your loss m'am'' Lio says with fake empathy.

fffft better let Ronny take care of this one...

Ronny has to swallow hard after hearing this confession. Honestly, they would have been much better off not knowing. But now the cat's out of the bag.

"Oh no." He says "So sorry to hear that." His mind is trying to figure out how to respond to such a thing. "We won't tell anyone. As I said, we's just here to do a job." Even though the woman just admitted to a cover up scheme, he felt like she was honestly upset and at a loss. Besides, Ronny's not one to be judging. His life had been filled with plots, shady deals, and unfortunate turns of events.

With this in mind, he tries to console Helen and gives her a shoulder to cry on. Then mouths to Lio: Call Raf.
Aug 28, 2023 10:28 pm
Lio doesn't feel comfortable with the whole situation and is glad Ronny sends him off to call Raf.
He quietly leaves the room, walks in to the hallway and tries to find an open door to make his call.
He is in luck, the first door he tries opens without a problem, he stands in an empty office, there is one table, one chair that has seen better days, and some crooked empty shelves. Almost empty, there are some sheets of paper spread chaotically from left to right.
In the dim light of the hallway the office gives him an melancholic feeling.
He pushes the light switch, but nothing happens.

Just my luck

With a sigh he closes the door and starts calling Raf in the pitch black of the room.

''Raf, got a minute? I've got the weirdest story to tell''

- Ronny -

"I didn't know what else to do?" Helen sobs. "Arthur always wanted to be buried in space." She adds as though that is any justification.

Meanwhile onboard Betty...
OOC:
Writing this my mind is producing sound from old Transformers cartoon when the scene was changing: the sound of childhood... lol... yeah... I know... no further comment on this ;) ;) ;)
"Thanks Abby. Now I will just remind you how you should attach the suit to the guiding railing on one of the rolls... done. Now you are safe and can use this occasion to accustom yourself better to moving in this suit. Ok? Tell me when you will be sure that containers will be secure."

With that words Raf goes for his generator that he left towed near the cargo crane and starts disconnecting cargo crane from ship's power cables and attaching it to his generator. He is happy. He is able to do his first manual task directly interacting with the... ship.
"Hmm... I think it is about time we will give the name for our new home..."

"Hay, Abby? How are you doing? Don't you think we should give the ship a name? Any ideas? I'm not very sentimental guy... but I feel that it should be something sounding 'personal'... any ideas?" - he asked Abby through the comms and giving her a short look, almost whistling with happiness when he continued his work on connecting the generator to cargo crane, working in very relaxed way... as he would attend to his favorite hobby.

OOC:
Oh! I forgot to add -2 for vacc suit, so the final result will be: 8, not 10. But it sill will be +2 on the next roll.

As non native speaker I'm really curious if anyone of you will know about what kind of sound I'm writing here... but it is worth to try... ;)
"Muuua!" - Raf made smacking sound with his lips - "I just LOVE when the parts are coming together way in such elegant way. That's what I call a good tools and good job." - Raf commented his ending of a task, visibly pleased about his work.

"So Abby are the containers... oh... wait I have incoming transmission from Lio. Would they get the air lock already?" - he was interrupted by the sudden call from Lio.

Through comms:
"Yes, Lio?"
(...)
"The guy did... what?!?" - Raf was truly surprised by the turn of events, but collected himself in order not to show Abby that something is not good at all. So he continued with much calmer in tone, but faster in speed voice:
"So... my recommendation is simple: you never should trust a femme fatale found alone at the space station. Doesn't matter how small. First: aassess the risk. Interrogate her what was the cause of the death. If it would be indeed some kind of illness - and who would better judge it than you, Lio? - the risk is not worth it in my opinion and you should get the air lock and come back as soon as possible. Preferably doing some kind of disinfection before getting back on Ginger. If there wouldn't be any high risk of infection - I would check if the girl is not lying - by checking the body. Wouldn't be the first one you have seen Lio? If she is not: again, let's get the air lock and leave her alone - apparently it was her choice not to rapport all of this. And we really should leave the system ASAP. BUT... " - at this point Raf's face took an unpleasant look for a brief second and he he hesitated before continuing.

BUT... is she is lying - probably she is dangerous - I would recommend securing her in some bathroom with food for a week or two, and we will report her just before leaving the system. So... that's how I would approach the subject. What you think: Lio?
OOC:
Edit: fixet "lying" spelling... so the boys wouldn't have strange ideas.... ;)

"Are you alright, Helen?" Ronny asks after a while of her sobbing slowly fading. "Maybe go lay down for a bit, huh? You must be exhausted from doing all of this on your own." He suggests to her. With her asleep, they'd be able to check out the place and see what's actually going on. That is if she trusts them enough to take the suggestion.
Sep 1, 2023 5:38 am
"He was sick for so long." Helen answers Ronny. "And we both knew he was not going to make it. But we never talked about it, and I just didn't know what else to do." She explains again.

She does look exhausted but she protests against going and resting while she has guests. This seems like mostly a matter of 'manners' and 'being a good host', but also it being strange to leave strangers alone in her home... but mainly --you might suspect-- that she is lonely and does not want to squander any time she could spend with people.

If you agreed to stay till she awoke, or were persuasive enough --or medicated her into a nice deep sleep-- you would be able to take an unhindered look around.

What do you do?

'' Gosh... I don't know Raf, checking the body seems a bit awkward. Especially since we are posing as mechanics. But you are right that we shouldn't lose focus on the job. I'll see what I can do.''
Lio walks back to the other room and overhears Helen's last sentences.
Damnit we have no need for a damsel in distress at the moment

He barges into the room pretending to not know what's going on.
''Hey Theo I just got contacted by the crew and they say we can only do that extra work if we get a portable airlock, if not we will be done pretty quic... Oh I'm sorry ma'am, I seem to have interrupted your conversation, please excuse me''

- Lio -

"That's quite alright, dear. Don't mind me, I'm just being a silly old woman." Helen says as she wipes her eyes. "Let's get you boys sorted out. Do you have a part number? We can look at the inventory system and get you what you need, that's what it is here for."

Between the two of you you should have no problem finding the crate you need on the computer. Someone will need to drive the forklift (Drive Wheeled probably) to get it on board the Gig, Helen never did that part.

What do you do?
Sep 1, 2023 7:11 pm
After finding the location of the equipment on the computer Helen shows them the way to some sort of warehouse with loads of boxes big and small.

'' C3/4.1 ... 4.2 ... 4.3... it should be in this aisle
Ahhah there we go''

''hmmm I guess we will be needing the forklift for this one''
Upon entering the hall they saw a rusty forklift in the corner. Lio walks over and tries to get the box of off the shelve.

'' Hehe, just like riding a bike...''
Lio drives the forklift to the cargo gate so they can load the box in Bob's ship

Loading the large crate with the portable airlock dock is easy --though you may worry about getting it off on the other end if the crane is not working.

Helen looks sad to see you go, and insists you take some of the leftover food "For the others." and repeats her invitation for you to come back again for future meals.

Do you leave or stay and talk some more?

Did Ronny ask her anything more while Lio was sorting out the goods?
Sep 2, 2023 9:25 pm
Ronny takes the time to talk to Helen a bit more, while Lio does what needs to be done in peace. Good thing he's got such a competent crew to work with. "I'm sure ya did right by him, Helen. That's what matters most, ain't it?" He puts on a smile for her. "Tell ya what. I'm sure we'll have a bit of down time every now and then. If our fuel reserves allow, we'll stop by for a chat and a drink. How's that sound?"

Even though he feels bad for her, he's got a job to do here. And they're already getting into enough trouble. But he decided to keep the door open in case they do need more of her help.

After being thoroughly impressed by Lio's forklift skills, he gets up to get back into the ship. "Well, I guess we better head back so the boss don't get angry. Thanks for the meal. I hope ya feel better." He calls out to Lio "We good to go?"
Sep 3, 2023 9:11 am
"Oh. We can fill you up while you are here." Helen says to Ronny. "No one would notice." She does not want something small like 'fuel' to prevent more visits.

Ginger is still more than three-quarters full, but topping up does a number of things, it gives you more reserves to play with, could allow you to tap a bit more into Betty, and establishes a precedent for your getting fuel from the Depot.
Sep 3, 2023 10:22 am
"Y're too kind, ma'am." Ronny replies as he gets ready to board Ginger again. "We'll keep it in mind." In his head he's trying to figure out just how much taking advantage he'd be ok with.
Sep 5, 2023 9:23 am
''yep, good to go, but some fuel would certainly come in handy '' says Lio who overheard part of the conversation and doesn't feel much sympathy for the crazy lady who put her husband in the freezer.

maybe hearing the whole story would change his mind, but not that much'
