After her terrible experience with the deadly cold mountains, Adaia is now much more aware of the real dangers of the Ten Trails. Feeling much better after having Agna's warm brew, the elf is paying as much attention for any surprises on the way. "Stop! There a crevasse!" she shouts at some of the merchants walking besides the wagon where she as she notices the long deep crack hidden by a thin crust of ice and snow. Unsure how long the crevasse is, she uses her magic to blow the snow away and reveal the entire 10-foot-deep hole in the snowpack.
After traveling for almost half of the day and having avoided many of the potential dangers on the trail, you notice the wind abates for a moment. Not having to fight the icy winds boosts everyone's moral and the caravan pick up the pace. However, something thatād normally be a good thing, unexpectedly turns into a new danger, halting the progress. Sparkling snowflakes the size of dinner plates lazily drift down from the storm above and, while beautiful, theyāre razor sharp - something that becomes immediately apparent as the wind picks back up and sends the snowflakes whizzing around the area cutting limbs off the evergreen trees.
Unfortunately, this warning comes a moment too late for Izuhn and one of the snowflakes catches him where it hurts worst.... in the beard.
Thankfully, only the bottom braid is cut, but its clear that Izuhn is as frazzled as the bottom of his newly loosed facial hair.

Upon entering the cave, the tattered group finds it spacious and warm, even the wind seems unable to ruin it. At the back of the cave, a tiny stream flows from a rack in the wall and collects into a pool, which is safe to drink. With the elemental problem solved, the cave looks safe enough to start a fire and rest until the storm ends.

Whichever is the case, the orc knows the cave entrance cannot be left unguarded...
Izuhn decides Agna will need backup for her task and goes deeper in the cave, looking for Beorne to update him on the outside dangers. The caravan master agrees to have some extra guards work with Agna, but he is worried about Nass' findings. Of course an artificiallly dug tunnel would tingle the curiosity of most dwarves in the caravan, so Helda was send with a group of dwarves to explore what he is calling "the ruins".
Izuhn follows the short tunnel Nass pointed out, which transitions from unworked stone to a corridor of hewn stone ending in a grand chamber. The chamber would be in complete darkness if it were not for a the torches carried by three members of the caravan:
- Ezahne stands in front of an ice-covered door made of white marble with streaks of gray and blue, fascinated with the Draconic writings and diagrams on it.

The writing gets more and more difficult to follow, as he mentions a center of great magical power and "The Staff", which appears to be some sort of artifact. The final pages and almost incomprehensible, containing drawing of severed hands scribbled throughout the pages, as if the author has grown demented.
Most of these hands are empty, but some seem to be grasping nine weird, marble-sized rocks painted with sparkling paint. Each one of these is given a name:
* Dusty-rose prism - Stone of Protection
* Pink rhomboid - Stone of Fortitude
* Pearly-white spindle - Stone of Regeneration
* Marbled pink-and-green sphere - Stone of Leadership
* Faceted clear sphere - Stone of Supreme Intellect
* Vibrant purple prism - Stone of Reserve
* Incandescent blue sphere - Stone of Insight
* Pale-lavender ellipsoid - Stone of Absorption
* Clear spindle - Stone of Sustenance
Another set of hands seem to be trying to reach something out of the pages, each one containing a note.
* The two-color stone is a sphere.
* The stone of Awareness isnāt pale green.
* Self-Preservation is a gem, Iām sure of it.
* The stone of Awareness is a rhomboid.
* The prism is pale green.
* The stone of Self-Preservation is silvery.
* I know the stone of Intellect is a mixture of two colors.
* The stone of Mastery isnāt dark blue.

She then opens up the bag, finding the pebbles. How many are there and what do they look like, shape and colour?
"Izuhn, there is a riddle on that door, Ezahne thinks that something called Ioun stones need to be inserted to unlock it. This journal describes the stones and there are many similarities in the notes and the riddle. I believe these pebbles are either Ioun stones or fabrications of them. But then we're missing the Intellect, Mastery and Self-Preservation stones. Perhaps they're somewhere in this cave?"

Nass Lantomir
On the other side of the pit, Adaia finds her way to another chamber through a number of collapsed chambers and dead ends. The floor of this chamber is broken open at the center, with chunks of ice lying strewn. The elf immediately notices that this chamber is frigid compared to the rest of the caves. She would say even colder than the blizzard outside. A quick inspection tells Adaia that the ice is free of dust and so, it must have formed recently. Confirming her suspicion, she spots an icy tunnel between the partially collapsed rear of the room. The slope upwards and the icy winds coming from it, suggests it might lead outside.
"There's more of those writings here" Nass points out to Ezanhe, who quickly checks them.
Beorne Steelstrike
"Find Helda, tell her to get back here and stop messin' around in the tunnels. Clean them out? Ye already got a fine spot here. Going explorin' is only going to attract more attention from whatever is hidin' in these caves. We already found some monsters over yonder," she jabs a finger at the place where she left Adaia. "More'n enough for company. I'm goin' back there to try and keep it from killing more o' us, so don't go findin' new trouble when the old mess ain't been cleaned up yet!"
"What does the writing say, I'm afraid that is all were going to find down here, everything else has long been destroyed."
Adaia will take a look at the writing as way, whispering under her breath to cast Read Magic.

Ezahne Darmor
"Hey!" Ezahne's shout distracts Adaia from the text. "This ice here looks different. It doesn't seem to melt the way the other does."
Creature
As Agna returns, she figures out they had already entered another chamber while she was away... She continues until she finds both Nass and Ezahne close to a deep gap in the broken floor, carefully inspecting pieces of broken ice. Adaia is in the far corner of the room, close to some strange, possibly cursed, writings.
And that's the moment that the chamber shudders... Ezahne and Nass struggling for balance...
Seeing Agna come into the room "Hey Agna, you better get in here - we've found another exit though there's something off about it. And I've a bad feeling about that quake."
The orc struggles to keep her balance on the shuddering ground, reminding her unpleasantly of her time aboard the Icebreaker. Managing to keep her footing, she marches forward and drags the two back away from the pit by force.

As the snow and powdered ice settles, a huge creature with shards of blood frozen into its fur and feathers comes into view. Callous intent burning in her crystalline blue eyes, she stares intently at you and lets loos an ear-piercing shriek.
You hear an earsplitting crack coming from the ceiling just about Ezahne, the scholar turning her eyes away from the ice she was collecting, freezing in terror as a huge chuck of ice starts to detach.

As she gets to the doorway, she turns and attempts to bring a portion of the roof down upon the beast yelling out in equal parts fear and effort
"Die beast!".
Adaia stumbles over the words, and isn't able to make the right motions with her hands, causing her to lose control of the magic - as the roof begins to tremble so does her staff. She cries out again "DIE!" and her staff explodes, as a chunk of ice falls from the ceiling.

Adaia and Nass run out into the tunnels, but the elf turns back, remembering what happened to Ezahne. She uses her magic to warm the icy areas around a frozen block in the ceiling and brings it down on the beast as it pounces on Vokarr. Being smashed prone on the floor, the beast quickly shakes the ice from its feathers and stands up, bloodlust in its eyes....
Adaia fiddles around in her pocket for the ring, her hands trembling, making it difficult. She slips it on as she gets through the door, and casts Gust of Wind using the Rings magic - hoping to slow its advance and give us a chance to flee, if even for a little time.
