Bay heads to the library, discovering its shelves amply stocked with classics like "The Metamor-mouse-is" and "Paws and Prejudice." It also contains the historical records of the manor and curiously an intriguing collection of books on famous necromancers, myths, legends, and magical enchantments related to ghosts, spirits, and the undead.
The library is not devoid of life. Within, Bay spots a sea captain engrossed in a book detailing the manor's history. As Bay enters, the captain exclaims, "By the Kraken's nostrils!" His gaze shifts to Bay, and he seamlessly transitions as if they were already in conversation. "I'm telling you, this place is haunted and cursed," he declares, a glint in his eyes accompanied by a toothy smile revealing a glimmer of gold. "But if it's haunted, there must be treasure."

Unfortunately, there's no response from Hazel's comment prompting her to proceed toward the courtyard. Under different weather conditions, it could be a charming locale, featuring a well-maintained lawn adorned with a thriving raspberry bush in one corner. Remnants of removed benches suggest a deliberate effort to dissuade lingering. The courtyard's focal point is a wood shed positioned at the center, its door securely shut with a sturdy, rusted padlock. Devoid of windows, the shed stands as an enigmatic presence in the otherwise serene setting.

Seeing things locked as a personal affront against her... personality, Hazel takes out two of her fine nails and tries to pick the lock. "Pfff! Locking! Since when is this a thing?" the hazelnut colored mouse mumbles absent minded.

You most certianly can try again! However, now that the lock is jammed, you'll be rolling at disadvantage (roll two 20s and pick the one with the worst result). That is unless you can come up with another way to open the lock or find some tools to help. The longer you stay here trying to open the lock the higher the chances you'll be caught.

"All of this only because someone had to put a stupid lock on this stupid door." Hazel huffs frustrated. "Even broke my nice nail." she mumbles further. Taking a step back she twists a hair at the back of her head, before grumbling: "Damn it." Keeping herself barely from stomping the lock in helpless frustration, the archer takes a breath and conjures a scarf and her hammer. Hazel folds the scarf carefully and lays it ontop of the lock to dampen the sound (no high ringing tones) and starts to knock the broken nail deeper into the mechanism to persuade it to open in this way.If the adventurer gets the door open, she quickly moves inside and shuts the door behind her while already holding her breath and listening to percept if anyone has noticed her liberation of the world from locked sheds.

Meanwhile Sky wanders into the living room. Seeing as Hazel was checking the mousterious courtyard and Bay went straight for the library, this seems the logical thing to do. Absent-mindedly she puts one hand in her pocket and plays around with her dice as she enters the impressive room, ready to look around and meet whoever might be there.

"Not a sea mouse myself, but, by the Crow's Cloaca, us Sparrow Riders know a thing or two about the buffeting winds of fate and weather - and treasure!"Bay sits down next to the captain, introduces herself, and asks:
"So, captain! Tell me more about the hauntings, the curses... the treasure that must be hidden in this here manor...?"

Aye, me hearty! This place be cursed, it be. Ever since that little nipper vanished, every landlubber who fancied himself an owner sailed away within a week. Each one swore they heard ghostly wails and spied eerie sights. 'Tis a curse, I reckon. The lad's disappearance be a shroud over this place.
But here be the peculiar bit, me matey. When Mr. Filmon sailed into these waters and took hold of the reins, the tides seemed to turn. No eerie whispers, no ghostly apparitions. In fact, he embraced the spooky tales, turned 'em into a draw for guests, he did.
The captain proceeds to share that the former occupants of this residence were immensely wealthy. However, they chose to forsake their prosperity when their spirits were shattered by the disappearance of their son. Despite their affluence, no one else has claimed to have discovered their abandoned wealth.
Then the captain reveals a portion of the medallion fragment to Bay and Sky.
"I stumbled upon this fragment, and I've a gut feeling it's tied to the treasure. But try as I might, I can't decipher the riddles it holds."

Hazel uncovers a hidden trap door concealed beneath the unassuming rug. The door features three small rotating discs that twirl with each other's rotation. As they spin, distinct symbols emerge on the discs: a mouse, a cat, and a snake.
Hazel recognizes the setup as a magical trap. She guesses that by aligning the three correct symbols, she could potentially disable the enchantment. Yet, intriguingly, the door seems not to be locked, presenting her with the option to directly open it to see what happens.

As Sky steps into the living room, a sense of tranquility washes over her. The space is adorned with numerous lounge chairs and a couple of sofas, creating an inviting atmosphere. A fireplace crackles, emitting a warm and comforting glow.
Within this cozy haven, two mice are engrossed in their respective activities. Near a window, one mouse diligently works on an easel, capturing the dreary portrait of the outside world with a curious twist — a pumpkin rests atop his head. Meanwhile, another mouse tinkers with a grandfather clock, surrounded by an array of tools, focused on the intricate workings of the timepiece.

"Ooooh!" thinks Bay excitedly "Another piece of the medallion already?! I didn't expect to see one so soon!" (She is a very excitable, enthusiastic, confident, adventurous little mouse).
"I was worried that they would be hard to find, that people would be hiding them from us - what a surprise that the captain just showed it to me!"
"I don't want to steal it from the captain - I'll talk with my friends about this later, but I hope we'll be able to play with open cards and tell the captain that we too have a piece of the medallion. To tell him that we too want to solve this riddle - and that if we find a treasure, and it doesn't already belong to someone else, we can split it equally amongst those of us who find it. I'd much rather cooperate than compete with other treasure hunters!"
"It also sounds like part of the mystery here lies in the fate of the former owner's son - useful to have that as a thread to follow."
Turning to the captain she says:
"Why, yes, that piece of medallion does look very intriguing! And the fate of the son, hidden treasure, hauntings and curses - what an exciting place we have come to stay! I will definitely need to find out more about this."
"It sounds like the fate of the lost son may lie at the heart of this mystery - I'll definitely be asking other people what they know about that! Maybe there are some old newspaper article, old portraits, old documents around the house that can shed more light on that..."
"Thank you for your time, Captain! Hope to see you at dinner!"
And with that, Bay leaves the library, and heads off in search of Mr Filmon - perhaps he can tell her a bit more about the lost son?

Hazel descends the stone stairs, the thick fog shrouding everything in an eerie ambiance. The air carries a distinct odor of dampness and decay as she moves forward into the obscured depths. Soon, a murky pool materializes before her, occupying the heart of the room. The pool's wall rises to her waist, and the room's length remains elusive due to the enveloping fog. Despite the limited visibility, the space appears no larger than an average-sized bedroom, suggesting the pool isn't overly expansive.
Uncertain of the pool's depth, Hazel observes the slick sides adorned with glistening green algae. Positioned at the right side of the pool, barely visible through the mist, are skeletal fingers—a hidden secret hinting at the unfortunate fate of another soul. Hazel stands at a crossroads, with the option to navigate around the pool to the left or right.
Nov 11, 2023 3:04 pm
Left, always left. Looking out for traps and other nasty things, Hazel tries to lift the skeleton up. Are there any rings? With heraldry or something? How deep is the pool? Does she see the ground?
After that she turns carefully left and tries this path.

One of my hobbies, you see, is fiddling with delicate machinery. I will gladly give it a try while you get yourself a cup of tea, perhaps? This way you get a break and Mr. Jack will get some of the desired silence." Sky suggest calmly, but not in a whisper.

The pool exhibits a foreboding dark green hue, its depths shrouded in mystery, making it impossible to discern without the aid of a tool or a long pole.
As Hazel gazes at the skeletal hand, she notices it lacks any rings or jewelry. Should she wish to delve deeper into the investigation or attempt to retrieve it, she must traverse to the right around the pool instead of opting for the left path.
[ +- ] Going Left
Hazel ventures left around the pool, and as she progresses, she stumbles upon the skeletal remains of a mouse. The skeletal figure is seated upright on the floor, leaning against the wall. Its left leg extends straight out, and its head lolls to one side. In the grip of its bony paw, the mouse clutches a spear, frozen in an eternal posture of vigilance.

I'm on the verge of ringing the dinner bell for our esteemed guests. After that, I usually take a stroll around the manor to ensure everyone is aware that the meal is ready."
A recollection surfaces in Bay's mind—Hazel had mentioned something about exploring the courtyard. The thought crosses Bay's mind that it wouldn't bode well if Mr. Filmon were to discover her in that area, especially given his earlier warning.

"Here goes nothing..." Sky mumbles as she very carefully pries the medallion piece out of the intricate mechanism. She tries it from a few different angles always worried she might break something. The prize is the mysterious piece, of course, but she does not wish to make problems for the kind tinkerer, who trusted her enough to leave this task in her paws.
With a slight metallic clink sound, the medallion finally comes lose. Deftly Sky transfers it into her pocket without looking away from the clock. Nothing to see here, Mr. artist. Business as usual. Then she honestly tries to assess the damage. Maybe she can help repairing the antique timepiece after all. She bets she can. How hard can it be?
"You wouldn't know anything about clocks, Mr Jack, by any chance?" Sky says while she retightens one of the smaller screws.

Filled with the urgent wish to find out more about this strange place, the courageous Hazel sneaks up to the second skeleton and looks it up and down in the dancing light of her torch. "What got you?" she asks a bit nerveous and turns her fuzzy haired head from one side to the other, trying to perceive what this ones demise had been.
As long as she can't find anything (even more!) dangerous the brown archer continues: "Won't be needing that, I assume." she mumbles apologetically and carefully loosens the skeletons grip around the spear shaft. After a last glance if this "stiff" one has the sign of a noble family or something equally interesting, Hazel turns around and comes closer to the right side of the pool.
Prudent and with tons of "respect" she first tries to gage with the help of her new spear how deep the water is. And then also tries to recover the dead. Maybe there are more hints to be found. Or even a piece of this puzzle!

Dining Room
Mr. Filmon strides over to a sizable gong and gives it a resounding strike, the sound echoing through the entirety of the manor, capturing everyone's attention. He welcomes Bay to accompany him, engaging in conversation as they stroll around the first floor.
In the course of their talk, Bay discerns that Mr. Filmon is purposefully emphasizing the spooky elements to draw guests to the hotel, crafting an image that revolves more around the mysterious allure of the surroundings than the manor itself.
"You know, the tales of ghostly whispers in these halls, the flickering shadows in the corners—just the kind of ambiance that sets the stage for an unforgettable stay. People love a bit of mystery, don't you think?"
The Courtyard
Mr. Filmon pivots towards the courtyard, a subtle hesitation lingering in his glance at Bay, as if contemplating whether to permit entrance. Nevertheless, he strides into the courtyard, swiftly redirecting Bay's attention to the raspberry bush. Despite the attempt to engage Bay, there's a discernible unease in Mr. Filmon's demeanor, suggesting a reluctance to enter the woodshed in Bay's presence.
Pretending nonchalance, Mr. Filmon remarks, "Odd, I could have sworn I left the woodshed locked. Well, it's about time to replace that old rusted lock anyway." He produces a gleaming new lock, securing the shed door with a decisive click. He and Bay then leave the courtyard.

In response to Sky's inquiry, Pumpkin Jack, his voice laced with arrogance, retorts, "Clocks and machines are beneath me, tasks for mice of lesser stature. I stumbled upon a small fragment, seemingly fit for some contraption, and nonchalantly discarded it out my window. Perhaps some child has taken it for play outside." With a dismissive wave, he adds, "Now, if you don't mind, I HAVE IMPORTANT WORK," swiftly redirecting his focus to the ongoing painting.

Surveying the shed, Hazel contemplates two potential strategies to block the trap door. She could hastily create a makeshift barricade by stacking wood, or she could opt to maneuver the workbench over it.
On the workbench lie various tools—a pair of shears, a trowel, and a pair of gardening gloves. Adjacent to the workbench rest a rake and a bucket. Additionally, the fog that had enveloped the area earlier has begun to swiftly dissipate.
OOC:
A successful DEX save will allow Hazel to move quickly enough to stack wood on the trapdoor. "Very well then. I am starving." Sky smiles at Mr. Filmore brightly, then adds "I better go and get Hazel before she misses any culinary delights." Where might Hazel be? It is not like her to miss any opportunity to eat, let alone a grand dinner.
"Where might she be, Bay? Will you come look with me or are you preoccupied at the moment?" Bay might know where Hazel's gone off to and Sky really wants to tell her about her find - not to boast, mind you, just to ... share their united...accomplishements. "Alright. I won't be a jiffy." Sky looks back towards the living room. Hazel surely isn't there or at the library. The mouse's luminous eyes wander in the direction of the stairs. Maybe Hazel wants to check out some of the rooms, while the guests are in the dining area? I bet she does! She might need some help.
Before Sky makes her way up to the second floor, however, she decides to have a look at the fabled courtyard. She had told Mr. Filmon that she finds it interesting, so having a quick look surely won't hurt. Decidedly she turns and makes for the little garden area. Sky will look around there first, then look for Hazel upstairs.

Running to the door of the shed she pushes ... wait! ... tries to push ... it is closed and locked! "Nononononono...! the brown archer bubbles in disbelieve while shaking it another two times, not willing to accept that the situation.
Through looking around hastily she tries to find another exit or a way to manipulate the lock that is on the outside. A crawling space? A hatch in the roof? A loose plank somewhere?

The dining room is adorned with a delightful spread—bread, cheese, broccoli soup, and a choice between raspberry cordial or water. Seated at the table are Captain Mortimer, Mrs. Sprocket, Pumpkin Jack, and a newcomer, Miss Melody.
Captain Mortimer is voraciously devouring his meal, showing little interest in engaging in small talk.
Pumpkin Jack, seated beside Miss Melody, is earnestly attempting to make conversation with her, a hint of affection evident in his eyes.
Meanwhile, Miss Melody and Mrs. Sprocket are engrossed in a discussion about the eerie atmosphere surrounding the area and the hotel.
Amidst the dining room activities, a bustling cook is seen darting in and out of the kitchen, ensuring that the food is promptly prepared and available for the guests. Mr. Filmon, taking on the role of a waiter, also makes frequent appearances, attending to everyone's needs and ensuring a seamless dining experience.

As she sat down at the table, Bay introduced herself to the other guests - she is genuinely excited to be meeting so many different mice on her adventures!
Bay tucks into her food enthusiastically - while keeping her ears open to the conversations going on around the table.
If an opportunity presents itself, she will join in the conversation between Miss Melody and Mrs Sprocket - curious to hear whether they have any new information or angles on the mousterys surrounding the manor - particularly the disappearance of the former-owner's son.

1. "I heard a rumor that Mr. Filmon has a rich benefactor who gave him money to buy the manor in exchange for some service." This is said in a hushed tone when Mr. Filmon is out of the room.
2. "Have you heard the sounds at night? I know it's likely the wind blowing against this old manor, but it sounds like there's a ghost in the house trying to escape."
3. "I heard that this house became cursed after the family who lost their son didn't go out looking for him. It's affected every owner of this manor."

After crawling through, Hazel springs back up from her knees and paws and starts moving very deliberately in the direction of the dining hall. Running into Sky a few heartbeats later, she stiffens for a moment but relaxes as soon as she recognises her friend. Breathing heavily, the brown furred archer starts to dust herself, flinging mud from her mantle and rearranging her stuff back onto its places. "Mr. Filmon ... he has some skeletons in his closet." she huffs at her old comrade. "Tell to you later." she adds, before continuing to the dining hall. When The Walking Dead would break out of the shed, Hazel plans to be in a completely different room. With as many witnesses around as possible, that she had nothing to do with those creeps.
Catching her breath and smothering her hair before entering the dining hall, Hazel smiles in a friendly manner at the other house guests and aims for a nice spot to sit. "Good evening everyone." Food would be good now. Calming her nerves through shoving tasty things into her mouth always worked since her mom did that to her as a toddler.

Bay definitely wants to follow up on these promising tidbits of information...
1. "Oooh, that sounds intriuging - did you hear anything about what KIND of service he might have provided his benefactor?"
2. "Did you hear the ghostly noises coming from outside the house, from outside your bedrooms, or somewhere else in the house?"
3. "Did you hear anything about WHY the family didn't go out searching for their lost son?"
And also:
"Hello Hazel! Hope you had a good afternoon here in the manor - do tuck in, the food is excellent!"

Sky, completely puzzled by her friend's sudden appearance, needs a moment to clear her head. She flattens her hair and twists her whiskers, then follows after Hazel into the dining area. Something is not right, but things will have to wait for now...
Even before she enters the dining room, the smell makes her stomach growl. Sky decides to take a quick look into the kitchen area to see, how many workers were responsible for the splendid dinner. She sees the cook on one of her quick trips from one room to another. Are there any more mice in the kitchen?
After having satisfied her curiosity, Sky joins her friends, introduces herself briefly and takes a plate of her own. She enjoys the food without joining into the conversations at first, then - after the initial digging in - she states: "I have managed to repair the clock and put it where I thought it might belong. It should be able to count the time once more. I wonder when it stopped to do what it was made to do. "

Responses to Bay’s questions:
In regards to the Mr. Filmon’s provided service, rumors state that Mr. Filmon is protecting somebody’s identity.
In regards to the ghostly noises at night, they sound like they are coming from somewhere inside the manor.
In regards to the family not looking for their son, they were too scared. They believed that some of the local flora causes people to do strange things.
Sky’s kitchen observation: It appears that it is only the cook and Mr. Filmon preparing all of the food.

After the meal it starts to become late. The group can retire for the night and sleep. This will recover the HP lost from earlier. They can also choose to stay up and investigate during the night. However, not resting will give everyone the exhausted condition which will take up one of your inventory slots.A note about inventory: if your inventory is full, you are encumbered which means you cannot run and all your saves are made at disadvantage.

Joining Ms. Melody and Mrs. Sprocket in their discussion about eerie atmospheres, Hazel is keen on learning what the two women find especially weird. Maybe the clicking of bones? In the beginning the brown archer steals a sideglance to the entry of their room quiet often, but as no skeletons seem to have gotten out, the river mouse relaxes a bit and asks the strikingly pretty Ms. Melody: "That is a very nice brooch you are wearing, dear. If I may so bold: where did you get it?" If the nicely dressed mouse seems open to such things, Hazel will try to barter for the piece.

I lost track a bit but I THINK the only medallion piece I got to see was the one that Captain Mortimor has? Hm, I should be taking notes - I had thought "Oh, it's all written in posts, I don't need to take notes, I can just check them" but with lots of posts... a useful learning moment for me, I think! :)Ever since the son of a previous very wealthy owners vanished and that family left the manor, every new owner has only stayed a week, saying they heard (and driven away by) ghostly wails and spied eerie sight. Captain Mortimer and other guests describe the manor as cursed.
But when Mr Filmon arrived, the ghostly haunting stuff stopped, and Mr Filmon used the spooky tales to attract guests (although, contradicting that, some guests talk about ghostly noises coming from inside the manor at night?)
The wealth and treasure of the lost son's family was abandoned in the manor - but no one has found it yet. The family didn't even look for their son, they were too scared. They believed that some of the local flora causes people to do strange things, and that's apparently what scared them so much.
Captain Mortimer has a fragment of the medallion.
There is another guest, Count Gregory, who they haven't met yet, who doesn't join for meals.
There is a rumour that Mr. Filmon has a rich benefactor who gave him money to buy the manor in exchange for some service - and that this service is about protecting somebody's identity.
Bay has several suggestions of things they could try and do today:
Talk to Captain Mortimer, show him their medallion fragments, ask if he would like to join them in searching for the treasure and the other pieces of the medallion - Bay doesn't want to steal the medallion from him, so was thinking of working together with him, maybe splitting any treasure between him and the three of them? Or maybe to offer to buy it off him, or get it from him some other way?
Try and find Count Gregory - perhaps he has a medallion fragment too?
OOC:
This is assuming the other mice described their experiences of yesterday - a bit meta-gaming but doing it to speed things up a bit - happy to retract it if you prefer.Return to the garden shed ready to somehow deal with those skeletons and investigate more of what is going on underneath it.
Look for the medallion fragment thrown out of the window into the mushrooms - maybe better to do this with at least two of us, in case the mushrooms are somehow confusing or having some nasty effect on mice.
Nov 16, 2023 6:40 am
"How about it? Let's go for a little stroll before breakfast, shall we?" Sky has related all she knows and is eager to find out about the mushroom patch and the kid. Afterwards, during breakfast, they will have ample opportunity to challenge Ms Melody to a game of chance or learn more about the elusive count. As for the Captain... maybe he would agree to help out with his piece as long as he is kept informed about the proceedings(?).
Sky stashes Mrs Sprocket's device in the room. She feels for her bruised ribs and finds them no more but a bit tender. A good night's rest has done wonders for her constitution. The mouse puts on her coat and turns to leave, after having looked through the window and making sure the suspicious shroomy spot is still where she remembers.

After they returned to their rooms, Hazel can no longer hold back and spills out what she had learned. "Mr. Filmon is a Necromouser!" the sneaky mouse exclaims agitated. Telling the story of the unlawfully locked barn - a crime in itself! - she reports further on the trap with the mouse, snake and cat symbols, the impenetrable fog, the pool and the frickin' skeletons! At least two! And armed! How very territorial those two are. A proper mouse in her right mind shouldn't go down there alone - that lesson she had learned.
After a good night of sleep and just a bit of snoring on Hazels part, the archer listens to the others before agreeing: "A game of chance sounds excellent. But one that we win! It wouldn't be in our interest if we lose this game. Any ideas how to facilitate that?"
A bit disappointed that everybody seems to prefer a boring morning hike to the mushroom fields, she suggests: "Well, I am intrigued by this mysterious count. Does anybody know where he can be found?" Hazel continues further: "Maybe in the room with the paper across its windows? Next I will try my luck there."

Crows are a particularly deadly creature to mice, but they are not outright aggressive like a snake or a cat. They usually know 1 or 2 songs which act as a sort of spell. Hazel locates the room with covered windows on the second floor at the front of the manor. It seems Mr. Filmon repurposed this space into a makeshift lost and found and covered the windows to hide the disorder from approaching guests.
Upon entering, Hazel discovers an assortment of forgotten belongings—clothes, luggage, trinkets, and various odds and ends—all shrouded in a substantial layer of dust, attesting to their abandonment.
The items of note are:
- a pristine white bed sheet
- a purse brimming with 36 pips
- an incense stick
- an aged wooden holy symbol
If Hazel continues her search for Count Gregory, she discovers the front desk vacant. A clear listing of guests and their assigned rooms is visible. Count Gregory is lodged in room 6, adjacent to Miss Melody's room 5.

Putting her ear to Count Gregory's door, Hazel can hear a slight shuffling sound coming from within. Pressing her eye to the keyhole, she peers inside. It becomes evident to Hazel and Sky that no amount of convincing will get Blossom to come out of the mushroom circle. If they want her to come out, it will be against her will. They'll need to find another way to handle this.
Nov 18, 2023 1:42 pm
Bay is distressed to see how upset Blossom is - but is also increasingly convinced that it wouldn't be safe for her to come inside the circle. She speaks to Blossom:
"I'm sorry, Blossom - it's just that I can see you're within a circle of mushrooms, and sometimes there is strong magic in those kinds of circles. I'm scared that if I come into the circle, something bad might happen to me. I don't think that's your fault, that you have any idea that something bad might happen - and maybe nothing would go wrong. But for now, I don't feel safe inside the circle."
"But! My friend and I are going to see if there's something we can do so that we do feel safe to come and play with you, and have a picnic with you!"
Bay then turns to Sky and says:
"I want to help Blossom - I'm worried about her. Who knows how long she has been stuck inside that circle of mouserooms..."
"Maybe we can find something to help inside that tree - but I'm scared to do that with the crow perched up there."
"We could go back inside the manor and try and find something we could use to trap the crow in? Maybe a net or a big bag? With the crow trapped, things would be a lot safer for us, I think."
"We could also ask for help from some of the other mice inside the manor - I could ask Captain Mortimer maybe? Or Miss Melody?"
"What would you like to do next? I'll follow your lead."

Sky thinks about it and takes a step forward. She kneels down to try and see if breaking the circle is a possibility. The blue coated mouse touches one of the mushrooms with the tip of her boot. Sometimes magic dissipates if it isn't held in a closed shape.
"It might be a good idea to find out more about this child. Mr Filmore surely has come across Blossom. I have seen her before, from the window and maybe the crow is part of the magic and not at all dangerous to her. I, however, do not fancy crow hunting. Have you seen that beast?"
Sky continues: "I'll rather go see if there is something that could help us in that tree, before returning and leaving the child to fend on her own."

As Sky uses her sword to cut one of the mushrooms and break the circle, the compelling sensation to enter and stay diminishes but doesn't vanish completely.
Bay observes that when Sky creates a small opening in the circle, the purple necklace on the crow glows faintly, then fades.
Nov 18, 2023 3:56 pm
A small growl comes over Sky's lips as she draws back a bit. She feels her head clear and turns to Bay: "I think this magic compells whoever enters to stay in it forever. Even until starvation and death." She sits down on her mousy behind in the grass next to it. "Phew. For a moment there I thought about entering in the most wonderful way, then dragging you with me. Do you think it feeds on its prisoners?"
Sky takes up her blade again and wants to widen the opening. "MAybe I can go through and get the kid out, if the opening is enough. If I don't want to leave ... well... perhaps you'll have to drag us both... got any rope?" Bewildered by what she has just experienced, Sky does not really think about the black menace dozing on the dead tree.

"But the acoustics... they are dreadful in here." Hazel replays with a stern face, her brows high up in a mixture of genuine concern and strong rejection. "Let us walk outside. The fresh air will do wonders for your voice, and birdsong will inspire you to new heights." offering her arm, the brown mouse makes ready for a stroll. Maybe they would meet up with Sky and Bay.
This mystery about the house seemed also to include finding a gig for Melody. Maybe the others could help her with this. She already fought skeletons and talked to a vampire in the last 12h, while the other girls went out for a nice walk in the morning sun.

Bay is very relieved that Sky seems OK after having messed with the circle – she was holding her breath the whole time - and let out a squeak of relief when Sky came back unscathed! Bay likes to think of herself as brave and adventurous, but she didn't dare trying what Sky just did! Her admiration for her friend grows even more, having seen this.
Bay worries about the glow she saw in the crow's purple necklace - maybe if all the mushrooms are removed, the crow awakens from its slumber?
With her concerns, Bay turns to Sky and says:
"You're so brave, dear Sky! Yes, it looks like we may be able to help Blossom out of that circle. But please, let's not be hasty - we can be safer about how we do that, and that's better for all of us!."
"Let's go together back into the manor, find some rope, find Hazel, find a net ready to trap the crow, and then we can see about getting Blossom out of the circle."

After some contemplating Sky must admit, however much they want to help the child, without further investigation they should not proceed. It makes sense that the people here have seen the circle and Blossom and know something about the sinister magic that is at play. Also somebody might be able to provide means to deal with the crow. They leave Blossom and promise a swift return with food for her.
Quickly the mice make their way back to the house. Sky dashes into the house and the dining room. The mouse all but shouts to no one in particular:
"There is a child caught in a trap outside, who needs our help immediately. Who knows about her and her imprisonment and will help us get the little pup to safety?" ... while we also lighten her load by extracting the medallion piece...inconspicuously, of course...

"Your utter indifference astounds me. Do you not claim an artist's heart? It's not some sort of childish trickery, I tell you."
Sky's right eyebrow starts to twitch - a surefire way to tell she is losing her countenance with this group. "Bay and I have found a child on the very brink of starvation. She is helpless and alone, completely entranced by a vile trap. Come see, if you don't believe - it will take you all but five minutes to get there." Coldly she glances at the young singer. "If - that is - you can interrupt your comforts for such a time and if you can be bothered to think about somebody other than your own." Arrogant doe.
"And you ..." now she turns to Mr Filmon, "should at least check out the situation for appearance. We can't have a starving mouse destroy the imposing picture of this place, can we? It might also interest you to know, we might have found a crow's nest nearby. Is the safety of your patrons not your concern either?" I bet you aren't insured for any of this ... cheap old mouse Sky crosses her arms in front of her chest and glares at the guests. Not one of them is at least a bit worried for a child in danger? Bay swells with mousy pride at her friend Sky. Bay has been brave soaring over Muusdorf on the back of a sparrow, protecting her friends and family from attacking crows, from cats, from all manner of dangers. But to turn up in company like this and fight to help Blossom, to demand that these society-mice take them seriously? Somehow that's something Bay doesn't think she could have done herself. How lucky is she to be adventuring with such excellent friends?!
Bay backs up her friend:
"I was there! I saw it! There is an enchantment on that child - and saw it affect Sky too! Saw the light change in her eyes as she fought against it and won!"
"We don't want any cordial! We want you to come outside with us. We want you to bring us some rope so we can safely enter the circle with the child in it. Oh, and she's got a name, you know? Blossom? And a net. So we can be ready to catch that crow before it swoops down and carries us off!"

The piece of the singer and the counts must have to wait for now.
Following the others outside, Hazel readies her bow as she had overheard something about a crow. Not a fight the mouse is keen on, but better to be prepared than caught with your furry trousers down!
Whispering to Sky and Bay Hazel lets them in on the most recent news: "I have discovered another of 'our things'. Let us get yours first and then plan how to move forward." as she trippels behind them.

As the group exits the manor, an unnatural crack echoes in the air, followed by another and a thud, accompanied by what seems like a scream. Upon reaching the spot where Blossom was last seen, the scene has transformed. Blossom is nowhere to be found, but the fragment piece she was playing with lies in the grass nearby. The mushroom circle has vanished, and all the mushrooms are cut up. The dirt circle however remains. Crow feathers litter the ground, and the branch where the crow was perched now hangs broken, swinging back and forth and bumping into the tree base. A keen mouse observer might notice traces of blood near the top of the tree where the crow originally rested.
Most peculiar is the sudden dampness of the entire area, which was dry before, and there is no evidence of rain.

As the whole company is turning towards Sky and Bay, Hazel quick- and quietly palms the missing puzzle piece and tries to look as expectant at her friends as the rest of this small gathering.
Inwardly the nut brown adventurer punches her tiny fist triumphantly up on the air! One more! Yeahaaa! Suppressing a dance of joy - with lots of hip thrusting and tail waggeling! - the archer keeps her pokerface for the moment.

Sky feels as if someone has punched her right in the gut. They have hesitated and now it is too late. The child is gone and nothing remains of her except for the blood now blossoming on the injured bark of the dead tree. The blue-furried mouse scans the area where the shrooms have been, but there are no traces of the peculiar magnetism it seems. Instead Sky feels herself drawn to the tree. Silently she walks towards it, trying to steel herself against the sight of any ... bits ... she might find there.

The mice outside are Mr. Filmon, Hazel, Bay, and Sky.As the group approaches the tree hollow, they notice that it is dark inside. One of the mice lights a torch, and it's flickering light illuminates the interior, revealing a one-room chamber. On the left side lies a mouse skeleton dressed in an unusual outfit. Beside it, a mask rests upon a small, intact journal. Additionally, near the skeleton, the wall is crisscrossed with cracks that are barely noticeable to all but the most observant mice.
On the right side of the room, there is an almost perfectly smooth hole, as if something has tunneled through the wall. The tunnel is small, but a mouse could squeeze through if it chose to crawl inside. However, movement would be extremely difficult, and there is a high risk of getting stuck.

Upon careful observation, I have noted the peculiar behavior of the mushrooms inhabiting this region. They exhibit characteristics akin to a predatory nature, luring unsuspecting prey into a confining circle where the victim is ensnared and, ultimately, succumbs to the grasp of hunger. It is my belief that these mushrooms release an arcane dust, affecting the minds of those who encounter them. However, I am optimistic about my invention—a special mask designed to shield against the mushrooms' effects. Contemplating the wealth of knowledge we could glean from further exploration of this phenomenon fills my mind with anticipation.
On this day, weariness consumes me as I stumble upon a magnificent tree, a promising site for establishing my research camp. This arboreal specimen, while intriguing, emits an unusual noise, as if myriad minuscule sticks are rhythmically tapping against its venerable wood from the inside. To unravel the mysteries embedded within this tree, further investigation is imperative.
Nov 22, 2023 8:28 pm
Bay is even further shaken by the haunting macabre scene that unfolds as she peers inside the tree. Adventures aren't supposed to be as scary and overwhelming as this?!
She has marked one use of Torches from her inventory.

If Bay had seen, or heard from Hazel, what was written in the journal, she would be EXTREMELY worried about the tree hollow closing behind them, or something happening to trap them all inside the tree - given that this is what seems likely to have happened to this mouse skeleton - but for now, she is just shocked by how awful this all seems to be.She has marked one use of Torches from her inventory.

After sharing what she has read with her friends, Hazel isn't sure how to proceed. Digging one of her toes in the ground and drilling a small hole in the dirt, the brown furred archer asks: "One adventure at a time? We gathered half of the fragments." Looking up she continues with assurance: "Let us collect the other ones and see where they lead us."
For owning all six pieces is only one part of the mystery. Where to set them when they are united? Should their group sneak into the shed again and fight the skeletons? For they for sure keep watch over something significant. Mr. Filmons reactions about the place seem to indicate there is something of importance is hidden.
"I have an idea how to collect the fragment from the count. He is a vampire, did you know?" she asks more light hearted every moment. "Do you guys help me with that, or do you want to focus on the captain?"

Bay is very worried about the situation, about what Hazel has read in the journal. And she's relieved that Hazel is suggesting focusing, for now, on the medallion pieces. That feels less dangerous, less horrific, than what's happened in this tree, what might happen in this tree, and what happened with the other skeletons!
"Yes, Hazel, I agree - let's focus on the medallion pieces for now. And, er, I'd like to stick together a bit more than we have been given how SCARY some of this stuff is! So I'd like to come up with you to try and do something about the fragment that the count has..."

She hasn't helped the little mousepup, all she has done is repair an old clock and gather a few pieces of a puzzle. How can she just go on? She still smells the burning wood as she forces herself to proceed up the steps.
A split second before she knocks on Melody's door she forces her lips into a inconspicuous smile. She isn't sure it reaches her eyes, though. As the door opens she extends the palm of her right hand and shows Melody the dice she holds.
"I think I owe you an apology, young Miss Melody. Would you care to join me for a game of dice?"

As soon as the brown archer find their host, she takes the hotelier into her confidence. "As you apparently haven't missed, Ms. Melody is an excellent singer! And imagine Mr. Filmon - she is currently unengaged." the frizzy furred mouse reveals to the short-sighted mouse.
Keeping on enticing him with her words, Hazel takes another step closer and continues to paint in bright colors: "This is in fact a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you! Don't miss it and grab this talented voice! Arrange an opera evening with her."
She has promptly put one arm around her "new best friend" and is employing her other hand to emphasize her words with convincing gestures:
"The fame of this house will reach far beyond its borders. Can you indeed squander an opportunity like that?" she implores him urgently in a whisper, catching his gaze and then directing it to the bright future ahead. And close contact with the extremely good-looking young artist.

They are at a loss about what to do next. Before her friends saperate (to talk with Miss Melody and Mr Filimon), Bay tells them both that she is really sorry, but she needs to take a bit of time for herself. That she will go to their room, lie down a bit - but if there's anything she can do to help them out, they should just let her know.

Before her friends saperate (to talk with Miss Melody and Mr Filimon), Bay tells them both that she is really sorry, but she needs to take a bit of time for herself. That she will go to their room, lie down a bit - but if there's anything she can do to help them out, they should just let her know.
OOC:
If either of her friends says something like "Oh, I could use your help playing with Miss Melody" or "Please help me convince Mr Filimon how amazing it would be for Miss Melody to sing for the house" then she will - but if not, she does indeed go up for a rest.Captian Mortimor

Bay
As Bay makes her way to her room, a sudden commotion catches her attention around the corner. Captain Mortimer comes barreling around, focused on some papers in his hands. He collides with Bay. The papers scatter, and he exclaims, "By the hairy peg leg!" Quickly gathering his documents, he rushes off, declaring, "I must be off! No time for scuttlebutt!" and disappears in a hurry.
Surprisingly, Bay notices that Captain Mortimer dropped his fragment piece and left a letter behind.
"Regarding your earlier concerns, rest assured. I've gone to great lengths to address all of your requests."
The letter is signed only with a symbol that looks like a skull.

Bay stoops to pick up both the medallion fragment, and the letter.
A chill. Veins of ice. Settle into her bones. Her stomach drops.
Until today, she'd been so excited about the chance to go adventuring with Sky and Hazel. It had felt exciting, a bit dangerous, but also she had looked forward to it. Expected to be maybe a bit scared at times, but to feel like she was having fun.
And then they got to the Manor. And it felt like their adventure was a fun children's game - run around the house, collect the medallion fragments, and then, er, something nice happens?
But what the hell?! Skeletons trying to kill Sky yesterday night? And that awful scene with Blossom - and then the even more awful scene without her. And all the time, the people in this house behaving like actors in a play. Maybe it's all just a big ruse? Maybe every one of them is pretending, maybe they all have some shared awful sinister purpose - and Bay, Hazel, and Sky have fallen right in the middle of that...?!?
Maybe the Captain has deliberately left this fragment here for Bay to find? So that they may bring all the fragments together and something AWFUL happens - not something nice....??
It is the letter. This letter. That the captain dropped. That's the last straw. Bay is overwhelmed and furious and terrified and feels like they are about to explode!
No time for her to rest now.
Bay bustles her way back towards her friends. She'll leave them to finish whatever they're doing - but after that they have GOT to talk together about what the HELL is going on here. And make a plan on how to deal with this awful surreal dreadful situation.

Sky recognises the flicker in Melody's eyes, because she has seen it before - in a mirror. ... a mirror! She feels the tip of her tail twitch in solidarity, but holds back on showing her own enthusiasm. The singing mouse annoys her to no end, she finds. What a shallow, self-centered person.
"I cannot in good conscience play for such an amount - seeing as I haven't got a fraction of that sum to hold to my name. The sword I need to fight imaginary enemies and to impress the ladies, so it will not do either." Sky touches her chin as if in contemplation, then offers: "How about a game for valuables? My grandmother, you see, was handmaid of the world-renowned Mousita Callas for six vital years in her incredible career." Sky let's this colourful image sink in for a bit. She does not really have a clue about classical music, but come on - who hasn't heard of Mousita Callas?
"Anyhow, as I am quite certain you know, one of the biggest problems of the true master is all the damage to the glass - at least the valuable sort. Only the true master, such as yourself, will know the anguish of having the most beautiful artefacts shatter from being exposed to one perfect note." Sky is very attentive to Melody's facial expressions. She tries to read the singer to find out, how to continue spinning her yarn.
"This here mirror, however, ..." she presents a small pocketmirror with simple, but pretty silver adornment "has never so much as shown the beginning of a scratch, even though my grandmother often held it for the beautiful Ms Callas during her divine practice sessions." Sky deftly moves the mirror so as to catch the light and make it sparkle in her hand. "This quality is, as you are aware, invaluable for an artist such as yourself and by all right should be a present from me to you."
Sky pauses effectively, as if in thought, then smiles at Melody brightly: "To have a wager for our game, I will refrain from gifting it to you - as I had intended - and instead stake it against...shall we say, your old brooch? For the game's sake, you understand."
Sky holds the mirror in one hand and the dice in the other.

To trick Miss Melody in the dice game and ensure Sky's victory, a successful DEX save is required for Sky. I picture that she has both loaded and regular dice, and will need to perform some kind of slight of paw to swap them at the right time. If Hazel is aware of the plan, she can create a distraction to provide Sky with an advantage on the roll.Nov 29, 2023 8:34 pm
"Hazel! Care to join us?" Hazel knows fully well that Sky and dice isn't the safest combination, but in this case, the vice might bring them another piece of the puzzle. The smaller mouse knows the game, as they have played some tricks on people in the past - arrogant, rich people, of course, who could afford to part with a few pips.
Hazel knows what to do.

Seeing her opening Hazel doesn't hesitate. "Melody! After listening to your singing... but I let our generous friend, Mr. Filmon, speak for himself." she says and taking a small step back.

Sky is a bit sceptical at first, but trusts her friend's tactics. Filmore does seem excited to see Melody and Sky uses the opportunity to help fortune along a bit...
She sees Bay enter the room and winks at her, before working her dice magic.

The allure of fame captivates Miss Melody to the point that she scarcely pays attention to the dice game. Exploiting the distraction, Sky deftly manipulates her dice, and Miss Melody, consumed by visions of future success, seems unfazed by her loss. She casually tosses the brooch (the fragment piece) onto the table, expressing that she no longer needs it in anticipation of forthcoming fame and fortune. She adds some comment about being generous to "the little common mice" as Sky scoops it up.
Count Gregory, upon realizing the absence of Miss Melody's singing, genuinely appears pleased. He hands the fragment piece to Hazel with a surprisingly heartfelt expression of thanks.

Making the assumption that Hazel would retrieve the piece from Count Gregory. As the late afternoon descends into darkness under a blanket of heavy clouds, the trio of mice stands at a crossroads in their adventure. With all the fragment pieces in hand, the question lingers: what path will they choose? Will they unite the pieces, venture into the depths beneath the woodshed, question the inhabitants of the manor, or embark on an entirely different course of action? The possibilities unfold like a map, waiting for them to decide the next chapter of their intriguing journey in the shadow of the gloomy sky.

Hazel rubs her paws together and glances excitedly at her friends' expressions. How successful they have been so far! They found all six puzzle fragments in no time.
The conqueror of the river waves finds a good place in the middle of the room, spreads out a dark blanket, lays down both parts and looks expectantly at her comrades. "Let's put them together without them touching? Maybe we can learn something of it.
Then have a hearty dinner." the fuzzy furred archer voices her opinion on how to proceed. For her there is no way around the shed. And skeletons are best encountered with a full belly. Like all obstacles and other situations in life.

I'm curious - the behaviour of the people in the Manor, of Gideon, felt like a young children's fairy tale. The ease with which we got the fragments. The over-the-top emotions. Not a criticism - I'm enjoying it very much! What I'm curious about is whether this would also feel odd, for similar reasons, to our PCs in game? Or is that all fairly consistent with how people interact in this world? I'm asking as, if it's unusual, then it feels like something Bay picks up on, makes them generally suspicious of people in and around the manor, feels like they are putting on a show. But if it isn't unusual, then it doesn't ring those kinds of bells.

Bay sees the final two fragments passing over to her friends - and feels even more overwhelmed than she had a few moments ago.
What in the world is going on here? Is this bizarre medallion-fragment-collection quest a ruse, something to trick them? Some nefarious play or plot by the guests and owner of this manor? That has landed the set of fragments now so quickly in their hands?
And what of the recent awful events that have been going on here? How does this all tie together?
Bay just doesn't know what to do here. How to act. What is the right way forward? What are the dangers?
She hears Hazel talking about looking at the fragments all together - but not making them touch. And then having dinner. And this sounds like a good plan to Bay. Maybe food can calm her nerves a bit. Although eating surrounded by the strange, unsettling mice who are maybe plotting against them. Maybe not very calming after all. Still. She needs to eat.
Maybe looking at the fragments all together will be of some use. Although, if not, then Bay wants to push them together, to make them actually touch - she feels like a big part of what's upsetting her so much at the moment is the uncertainty of this all. So she feels an urge to just push on and through all this - to bring things to a head.
"Yes, Hazel, that sounds like a good idea. Let's go up to our room to look at the fragments - somewhere we have a bit of privacy."

Sky sits down next to Hazel and adds her medallion pieces to her friend's. Hazel's dark blanket provides a stark contrast to the shattered jewellery. "Maybe it's a map? Or something to fend off your bony friends?" The mouse produces a toothy grin towards her brown companion.
She looks at Bay, who seems a bit indecisive at the moment. "It's time we got to the bottom of this. I am in no mood for any more tomfoolery by the mice in this mansion. People get hurt and if we can stop it, we should not hesitate."
