Chapter 1: The Commencement

Feb 25, 2024 11:29 am
The past two months of training have been nothing short of brutal. With frantic urgency, you were rushed through Starfinder training in order to help bolster the faltering organizations ranks. Turning what was once a six month process into a mere third of that has resulted in you: The first new class of Starfinders since the Scoured Stars incident four months ago. You can only hope that you are up to the task.

After a simple (and quick) graduation ceremony held at the Lorespire Complex on Absalom Station, home of the Starfinder Society, you were given a short time to gather your things, clean up, and report to a briefing room for your first assignment.

Guidance
As the doors to one of the inner chambers of the Lorespire Complex slide open, a green holographic image of a blank humanoid form shimmers into view at the center of the room. "Greetings," it says in a smooth, feminine voice. "I am Guidance. Please use the cheek swabs in the open receptacle to provide a genetic sample for Starfinder Society identification purposes. If desired, you may place your hand on the glowing panel to receive a subdermal implant, further marking you as a member of the Society."

The room is well-lit with clean white walls, causing it to seem even brighter. It feels too empty and each footstep echoes uncomfortably off the walls. Off to the right side of the room is a glowing panel with an outline of a hand on it. Right next to that is a a cup with white swabs in it, some small glass tubes, and a chute to deposit them into once you are done.
OOC:
Feel free to elaborate on how your character is feeling, what they look like, and a bit about their personality if you wish

Is there anyone who doesn't get the subdermal implant? If you choose to take it, you get the following graft: Society Subdermal Graft
Jul 26, 2024 8:46 am
Sioux placed her hand on the panel and waited for the process to complete. Afterwards, she swapped her cheek as instructed.
She did it, she is a starfinder! And the idiot Jock is not.
She looks around at the other graduates. She looks to be a slime athletic female, her skin mimics that of a pale causation human, but her black eyes reveal her as a Verthani. And with the ease as she took the implant, she is properly of the Augmented cast.

My name is Sioux (pronounced "Sue") and I'm exited to be here. She looks at her palm as the starfinder symbol starts to glow there.

Xiordin's name is difficult to pronounce, and he likes it that way. The dark skinned man is prone to laze about and be in your way, his dark eyes daring you to make a fuss and find out. Everything about him screams "entitled bad boy".

You've watched him half ass his way through the brutal training, but realized over time that it isn't that he isn't working as hard as everyone else, it's that he's putting in extra effort to make it seem like he's not. That being said, he suffers from some genetic condition that wearies him faster than you'd expect. Not that that stops him.

Things changed when you conglomerated into team. The hard edges and denegrating glares softened and became, somehow, supportive. Encouraging.

Today, he's dressed in his Lashunta ringwear heavy armor, long hair flowing free. An archaic longsword hangs at his side.

"Guidance. I, Xiordin of Absalom, greet you." His name almost buzzes in his mouth, beginning with a complex consonant that is part j, r, and z sounds. Most people give up and merely say Zordin or Zyordin, despite how he judges them as if expecting the failure.

Standing beside Sioux he nearly blocks her from the hand port, but then she realizes he's just checking it first. He gives her a nod, and keeps an eye on the process (while he pretends to focus on examining the perfection of his own skin) before subjecting himself to the graft after her. When she's done he places his hand in idly and waits for the procedure to complete, leaning against the wall like he's been waiting for someone all day

The cheek swab is performed with equal lazy disdain.
Jul 28, 2024 7:57 am
Soryn walks into the room with the hologram with his head held high and and an easy smile on his face. He was proud of himself for making this change - years of teaching had left him with an itch to return to the field, doing real research and exercising his skills in ways he never could behind the lector. He looks to the other new recruits - some perhaps more experienced in the adventurous life than he, yet all of them 'green' in a sense for the new opportunities ahead of them as Starfinders.

"DNA samples," he comments, "So you might identify us, even if reduced to very little, I imagine. Let us hope it doesn't come to that." He takes a swab and does as requested, placing it in the receptacle. He then places his left hand on the panel and accepts the implant. He holds it up and inspects it - quick, painless, practiced perfection.

He looks to to the tall, dark-skinned man, saying his name with practiced care. "Xiordin, I must say, that armor suits you quite well. It is of fine quality - much too heavy for my own self, but I envy it nonetheless. Reminds me of home."

He smiles and looks to the others. "I suppose, we know each other well enough by now, but much awaits us out there. I find myself...excited, to see what the Society has in store for us now. I will do my best to keep you all on your feet, should we find trouble."

Scrap
Scrap was very pleased with herself. She'd only had to be hurried along twice as she got distracted by something in the Longspire Complex that she wanted to stop and watch or study. It was something her companions would be used to by now. The Ysoki knew what she was talking about with many machines... but the desire to stops and takes something apart or figure out how it worked had sometimes come at inopportune times.

There is a confused look at Xiordin beats her to looking at panel. Had he suddenly realised the wonder of machines and what they could do.. no he was just being his usual protective self. Ah well. Maybe there was still hope.

Hello Guidance! I'm Scrap.'[/b] It was a nickname she had acquired when very young, digging through waste piles for metal and components to piece things together. Still it had been a long-time since she had used any other name. '.. and this is Bolts' She pat the drone next to her

Bolts
The four legged drone standing next to her has gone through several iterations during training, as she had tinkered here and there, added alterations, removed alterations when they turned out to be a bad idea. In her defense they'd only accidentally set fire to something once. The smoking on the machine bench that one time didn't count.

Scrap
Scrap clambers onto the drones back, being careful not to knock the arcaster mounted on it. She'd only make that mistake once. Use the added height she raises her left harm, the one not covered with augmentations and cybernetics that let her access machines and computers, and places her hand on the panel, before hopping off to do the cheek swab.

Finaly. Even under the rushed circumstances finally. Finally she was a Starfinder. Even more opportunity to travel, learn and see more. She look up at Soryn at his words briefly and nods. Can you imagine all the secrets. New sights to discover? Record? As for trouble.. that where the this one comes in' She pats Bolts again before looking down at the subdermal implant in her hand, making it glow.

You know fascinating history these implants have. In fact the exact manner of their invention is argued and..' She starts to go off on one of her many information dumps. By now her companions will know she could go on for a long time unless interrupted, though she often doesn;t realise if no one is listening.

Xiordin, this protective big brother rutine will not win you any girls. Just saying

She turns her black eyes onto Soryn Ral. I have seen you in class, but I'm sorry say that I was a bit preoccupied to remember your name. Sioux and Jock, a male human, had a fierce rivalry, or courtship. He was always getting into her business, making comments and finding ways to annoy her. It pissed her off to no end, and she seemed very smug when he failed the final test. Others might have spotted that Jock had a crush on her but didn't have to social skills to talk with her and ask her out.

Bolts! That is your name. I have seen you and Scrap around, but I never knew your name.
Pleased to meet you Bolts The message goes directly to Bolts computer.

Guidance
Guidance doesn't respond at all to any of your greetings directly, but hums as it processes your swabs and then goes quiet for a few moments before speaking again.

"It is our pleasure to officially welcome you into the Starfinder Society. Today is the commencement of your new role as a Starfinder field agent. It is our tradition, at the end of the graduation ceremony, for new graduates to present themselves to the heads of our most prominent factions and complete a task at those leaders’ behest. This allows the leaders of these groups to become familiar with all new Starfinder agents, and it provides a constant supply of agents for handling situations in our holdings on Absalom Station. While these tasks were formerly symbolic, the heavy loss of Starfinder agents in the Scoured Stars system necessitates that these missions become something more. Please treat any tasks given with the gravity you would grant any other Starfinder assignment."

After letting this sink in for a moment, it continues, "I have sent coordinates for your first meeting with the leader of the Acquisitives faction to your personal communication unit. Best of luck to you." With that, Guidance's hologram disappears, leaving the four of you alone in the room.

Your personal comm units each beep and you have a new document available for you, titled "Acquisitives: Radaszam".

Radaszam "the Dealmaker" manages the deployment of the Acquisitives and his personal mercenary outfit, the Obsidian Spiders. He keeps a public-facing office for this purpose in the Nyori Palisades, a luxurious neighborhood located in Absalom Station’s central dome.

Please report to him immediately.

Xiordin surveys the team. "A fine group of individuals. I see among us the ability to tackle many problems, or in my case, tackle many things." He smiles grimly, as if to wave away his own training as a lawyer.

"I'm curious as to the nature of these requests. One would expect that with the rapidity with which they rammed us through training that they'd have wanted us out in the field tracking things, or problems, right away. Picking up the," he waves absently at the document they just ask recieved, "faction leaders' dry cleaning seems out of place."

Our breadth of skills shall ensure it." He nods curtly, as if the determination was final. "Perhaps it is more than 'picking up dry cleaning', as you put it. We will need to see, but must trust the Society is using their resources wisely."

Guidance
Guidance flickers back into existence as Xiordin speaks, sounding slightly annoyed, though it's hard to tell for sure, "This is a time-honored Starfinder Society tradition. There is always work to be done around Absalom Station and now there are few Starfinders to do it. We expect you to treat these tasks as you would any other task set out by the Starfinder Society."

With that, Guidance disappears from view again. It seems that the AI is monitoring the room despite not being visible.

Sioux's directs prove to be very efficient indeed and you quickly find your way into the building where you are to meet Radaszam. It's a well-constructed building, but not very flashy, with very few windows. After a bit of thought, this makes sense, as it's likely that the leader of a mercenary company has made many enemies. A pleasant male Lashunta receptionist calls for you after only a few minutes of waiting, "Mr. Radaszam will see you now."

Radaszan "The Dealmaker
The plain white doors of the office slide open to reveal a stark, dimly lit room. The chamber is bleak and expressionless in its emptiness—no vanities line its smooth black walls, and no signs of use mar its smooth black furniture. The only occupants of the suite are a bug-eyed tadpole wriggling in a glowing blue aquarium and a reptilian vesk seated behind an onyx desk. The vesk gestures to several chairs in front of him, his features sharply illuminated by the light of his desk’s green holoscreen. "The new graduates," he says in a low and pleasant voice. "Good day. I am Radaszam, though since you are here, I should hope you already knew."

"I trust you’re all aware of our Society’s traditions, so I will cut to the point. I have a situation that needs resolution. Recently, a probe of some kind appeared in the Drift in relative proximity to Absalom Station. The Pact Worlds haven’t had the opportunity to examine it yet, but they’re preparing to. However, there’s a slight complication… it seems the Veskarium has salvage that’s late for its scheduled arrival here at our station. Doesn’t take Eloritu’s wisdom to realize that this ship has probably gone looking for the probe."

"This could escalate quickly. If the Pact Worlds send a ship and find that Veskarium salvage barge, there could be violence. Embarrassing, isn’t it?"

"I want you to get out there in a starship and get this probe before the Pact Worlds manage to send a ship of their own to investigate. If you absolutely need to get into a tussle with the Veskarium ship over this, then you’re authorized to do so. After all, the Society gets into sticky situations all the time, and us defending ourselves from a Veskarium starship is a way better outcome than the start of another interstellar war!"

"I'll send you the coordinates of the probe," he continues once he's sure you understand the task, "You'll find a ship in Hangar 17 for your use by the name of Legacy. They'll be expecting you. If you have any questions or concerns, make it quick."
Jul 30, 2024 5:52 am

Xiordin greets the senior man politely. After his spiel, Xiordin categorizes the risks. "Guidance suggested that we might need to pick up your dry cleaning," he says with a twinkle of mischief. Or malice, it's hard to tell. "We'd be honored to take on this task. "
Jul 31, 2024 1:55 am
"Certainly an important mission, for our first. Thank you for the opportunity to prove ourselves in the field, Radaszan. Shall we do anything with the probe upon recovery, or simply return it to the Station?" Soryn bows his head respectfully and leaves when the others are ready.

"Simply bring the probe back to the docks and we will have a team retrieve it," Radaszam replies, "Do well and you'll be well on your way to being true Starfinders."

With that, he waves you away. He immediately returns to working on his computer before you're even out of the room.

You head down to Hangar 17 and find several workers with Starfinder insignias on their shoulders preparing a medium sized Kevolari Venture. The ship is rather basic, but it appears to be brand new as far as you can tell. When the workers spot you, they pause to salute.

Xiordin lets the 'true starfinders' comment pass without so much as a side-eye. Inwardly, however, he churns.

Those dark thoughts evaporate from his dark heart when he sees the ship. "My first command," he says, and nearly joins Sioux and Scrap in a dance of joy. Well, 'nearly' may be putting a bit too much spice on the matter, but he does walk quicker.

You get on the ship and find your places in the cockpit. Everything is shiny and new and when you fire the engines, they come alive with a purr. It's a basic ship without a lot of flash, but the engineering is as solid as can be. In just a few minutes, you get word from Absalom Station's space traffic control giving you permission to leave the station.

Sioux expertly (for a relative amateur) takes the ship out of port and sets course for the probe. It comes on radar relatively quickly, situated right in the middle of an asteroid field. A moment later, Soryn spots something else: another ship is on course to intercept the probe!

The other ship's transponder, which is on, names it as the "Honorbound", hailing from the Veskarium. It is ablaze on either side with three bright red thrusters reminiscent of the energy blades of a plasma doshko. The other ship has not yet hailed you.

After a few minutes of no communication, suddenly you receive a message from the Veskarium ship, "This is Yuluzak of the good ship Honorbound. I'm afraid we're both after the same thing here. I'm afraid I can't let you take that probe."

The ship he's commanding is a relatively simple transport vessel, but it does have some amount of firepower. It's likely similar to yours in that respect and a fight, should it come, would come down purely to the skill of the crews involved. At this point, it hasn't made any offensive maneuvers, so it doesn't seem that it's going to just blast you.
Aug 4, 2024 11:44 am
Xiordin looks at the others unsure if anyone has anythimg to contribute before returning the communication.

"Yuluzak, this is Xiordin of the Starfinders vessel Kevolari Venture. You've entered space claimed by my people. We've been ordered to retrieve the probe. In the name of the friendship shared between our two great empires, Honorbound is requested to stand down and back away to a safe distance. If you pursue this, we'll be required to make you look very silly. There is no honor to be found here. "

There's a slight delay before Yuluzak replies, his voice echoing across the bridge, "Excellent speech, Starfinder!" he says with a laugh, "It's too bad that you have no rightful claim to the probe and I know you aren't taking sides between the Pact Worlds and the Veskarium, right? It's in free space right now. I'm a sporting type, though, so how about we duel for it?"

A moment later your ship's computer beeps and a list of rules appears on a display:

Rules of Engagement
• The combatants will not intentionally target the life support systems of their enemy.
• The combatants will abstain from targeting the rear arc — warriors should face the enemy head on.
• Combat is over once an enemy starship is disabled.
• Each captain can surrender at any point

"What do you say?" he asks after giving you a few moments to read through the proposed rules.
OOC:
The Starfinder Society, despite being based on Absalom Station, is technically a neutral faction between the Veskarium and the Pact Worlds. This gives them greater leeway to do their work across the cosmos without causing interstellar incidents, but the lack of a powerful empire backing them sometimes hinders them

"Hear, hear!" Soryn calls. He prepares himself for the fight, his fingers gracefully flying over his control panel, readying for scans and tactical data. Yuluzak bids you farewell before flying off. The probe has a casing with four violet metal prongs that have embedded themselves into one
of the asteroids. You undo the clamps and secure it safely inside of the cargo bay. It is not large by starship standards, being around six feet tall and about 8 feet in diameter. It doesn't seem to be active and you don't have a way to turn it on.

Radaszan "The Dealmaker
When you dock, you find Radaszam waiting for you with a group of Starfinder Society scientists who haul it away on a hover trailer. "Good work out there," he says with a grin.

A moment later, you see a group of media representatives approaching, "We saw your battle. How do you feel now?", "What was the Starfinder doing battling a Veskarium ship?", and other variations of the same question are thrown at you until Radaszam shoos them away.

"Seems that a probe from Zo! Media caught footage of your little fight," he explains, "Now the press want a piece of you!"

Xiordin is the only one who realizes that Radaszam seems pleased by this and suspects that he was the one who tipped Zo! Media off in the first place.
OOC:

OOC:
This is what I love with pbp rpg, the time to reflect and react to such things. It was only when they were hit with media attention, that I discovered that Sioux would have a strong reaction to that kind of attention.
Aug 19, 2024 8:03 am
Soryn purses his lips and watches as Sioux returns to the ship. "What we did was not for attention, but...perhaps that would do good for the Starfinder Society. If we can showcase our successes, it may help drive new recruits to join our ranks." He looks to Radaszan to see if there is some glimmer of agreement upon his face.
Aug 19, 2024 2:27 pm
Xiordin claps Soryn on the shoulder, his dark gaze lightening for the show. He warms up for the media.

"My friend Yuluzak of the Veskarium ship, Honorbound and I, Xiordin of Absalom, engaged in a light duel. There was no intent to harm each other, only to test each other's prowess and evaluate our crews. For my part, my Starfinder crew performed admirably on an unknown ship - the Legacy - which was found to perform well. Soryn Ral here acted as the Science Officer. Sioux who has returned to the ship to double check the shut down procedures, acted as pilot. Over here, we have Scrap, who was our inflight engineer. A finer crew I could not pick. From my parting words with Yuluzak, he too was proud of his crew. We both have seen our people tested and we can adjust our training programs accordingly."

He points at the probe. "An unknown object was spotted near Absalom in the dense and dangerous asteroid field, and the Starfinders were sent to retrieve it in case it was a danger to passing ships. Our initial scans have revealed little of it, but now it is the time for the researchers to identify it's worth."

He relaxes, his hastily prepared words complete. "Now, are there any further questions? We're happy to answer."

He packs his kit and heads for the Cortex.

It doesn't take long to get to the Lorespire Complex. Following instructions on the datapad, you reach the central elevator and tap your hand on the control pad. "Going down. Destination: Cortex" a soft female voice says from speakers overhead and you feel a brief moment of unsettling weightlessness as the elevator moves down into the bowels of the complex.

Historia-7
The door slides open soundlessly when you reach the bottom, revealing polished metal walls and a number of closed doors as you make your way to the room indicated by your comm units. An android reclines on a raised chair and is plugged into the local infosphere when the doors open. The neural cables detach themselves from her neck as she swivels in her seat to address the new arrivals. "Greetings, Starfinders," she says calmly. "I am Historia-7. If you are seeking a mission from me, please be aware that my request requires both discretion and speed. Do not accept it if you feel incapable of working within these parameters."

"I discovered someone recently hacked into Bluerise Tower’s computer systems and stole a large amount of sensitive data from the resident corporations. I wish to be privy to this information. I managed to trace the hacker’s location through many proxies and erased the trail so that station and corporate security should be delayed in their pursuit. This deception will not fool them for long, so you must move quickly to retrieve the data before they can recover it. I will leave you to decide what to do with the hacker afterward, but should it be feasible, I believe that person would be an asset to the Society."
Aug 29, 2024 10:08 am
I get that you want the hackers as they have a unique skillset. There is some pride in her voice.

But I question the legality of including stolen data.
Is there some elements to this mission that I haven't understood?
Aug 29, 2024 4:03 pm
The prospect of whitehatting a blackhatter through blackhatting is confusing to Xiordin, and he takes a moment to gather his thoughts. He nods at Sioux who succinctly summarizes his own concerns.

"We can act with speed and discretion, but I know little about the secretive folk in that tower. I've heard a variety of rumours, including that they may be controlled by a criminal syndicate or perhaps by anti-Pact terrorists. If they're innocent businessfolk, then we'll need a little more clarification before we, how do I say, aid and abet a criminal action?"
Aug 31, 2024 8:58 am
Historia-7
"Bluerise Tower is something of a unique entity on the Station," she explains, "It's owned by several different corporations and has so much protection and red tape that even the station's Stewards have trouble getting access. I'm of the opinion that there's something shady going on there and I think that, in our weakened state, the Society benefits from knowing as much as possible about what's happening around here, don't you?"
Aug 31, 2024 10:42 am
Scrap tilts her head. She can also definitely help with tracing the hacker. She understands the otehrs caution, but also Historia's desire for information. Perhaps if we get the data, we can see if anything shady? If not we delete, if is we pass over?'
Sep 1, 2024 7:49 am
"Makes sense, I suppose. And if this hacker got through such tight security, I can see why they might be a valuable asset - if given the right motivations and direction. If we feel it would be the betterment of everyone on the station to learn what they took, I'm in. Where can we find this hacker?"
Sep 1, 2024 3:04 pm
Scrap, we can't do a propper analysis of terabits of data.

Historia-7, you are not wrong, but I'm not convinced yet that you are right either. But for now, let us put moral and legalities aside and find the hacker. He, or she, can tell us more about the data. Do you have any clues to his whereabouts?

Sep 4, 2024 6:11 am
They're worried we'll get caught by someone, and it'll fall into the wrong hands. Leverage against the Starfinders. Smart.

The building is in a district known as Drifter's End, an area of the Station known for providing cheap housing to all types of vagabonds. He takes a moment to size Soryn up and, considering the area's reputation for housing transients it is probably a good habit to have. He shrugs, "I've been working on 'em for a few years now, I guess. What brings you to my part of the neighborhood?"

Soryn doesn't recognize a particular strain of tomato. To him they just look like normal garden tomatoes.

A moment later, the door opens and an older woman in a blue-and-white abaya pops her head out of the doorway, "Jubair, what are you doing fooling around out here?" she asks in exasperation, then seems to notice you, "Oh! The woman looks Soryn up and down with a frown, clearly noting the weapon on his hip and the way he carries himself, "Don't play with me, boy," she says sternly, but not angrily, "I can tell you want something, so out with it. I'm an old woman and I don't have time for games."

Jubair looks a bit taken aback by his grandmother's sudden shift in demeanor. There's something about the woman that's... formidable.

Soryn detects no other minds nearby with his spell.
Sep 12, 2024 7:01 am
Soryn gets a feeling. The way she carries herself, her demeanor, it screams with the gall necessary of someone hacking into Bluerise Tower. "Well, ma'am - I can see you're very observant, but I didn't lie. We came here to find an apartment. Yours. And, I think, you." He holds up his arm, showing the Starfinder mark. "What this means is you are lucky. Lucky we found you first...and helped cover your tracks. But it won't last." He continues to focus on their minds, trying to read surface thoughts, but casts a look at the others, hoping they are ready in case things go south.
Sep 12, 2024 8:08 pm
Soryn attempts to use his magic to skim her surface thoughts, but finds that he's unable to. Jubair is much easier to read and seems confused by his grandmother's behavior.

The woman studies Soryn for a few moments and then shrugs, "You and your friends should come in and have some tea," she says, opening the door and stepping inside. The inside of the apartment is small and sparsely decorated in a minimalist style. She points to a couple of chairs and a couch for you to sit on as she begins making tea, "My name is Ceren," she says as she hands out mismatched teacups, "What does the Starfinder Society want with an old lady?"
Sep 13, 2024 11:56 am
Sioux gives the grandmother a respectful thank-you and enters the apartment. Inside she tries to spot any trace of advanced tech.
Sep 15, 2024 5:50 pm
Sioux looks about, but doesn't spot anything more advanced than you might expect in a normal home.
Sep 16, 2024 1:56 am
Soryn takes a seat and watches the woman carefully. "We have reason to believe some information may have made its way to this apartment. Something from Bluerise Tower. We also have reason to believe this data may indicate the corporations operating from that place may be engaged in things that run counter to the people of the Station. The Starfinders would like to acquire this data, and perhaps also, the person that was skilled enough to obtain it." He watches her carefully, continuing to skim the thoughts of Jubair to see what his reaction may be to this, if he is listening. "The Starfinder Society traced it here. Others will come soon, though we interrupted the trail - we fear it will not last."
Sep 16, 2024 11:49 am
Sioux smiles encouragingly and tries to gauge their reactions to Soryns reveal.

Xiordin sits as well, trying not to look too intimidating. It's not his place to cow old ladies even if they might be mad hackers bent on the destruction of all that's sacrosanct. With that thought, he glowers unconciously, and maybe even growls out an unpleasant if inaudible word.
Sep 18, 2024 4:51 am
Jubair looks confused and a bit annoyed, "Hey, there's no hacker here!" he protests. Soryn can tell he has no idea what's going on here.

Ceren holds her hand up to halt him, "Be quiet, boy," she says firmly, then gets a distant look in her eye before they grow wide with surprise, "Oh my! You're right, it appears that I did hack them!"

Jubair's jaw drops at this, but Ceren ignores him, growing somber, "I... suffer from a degenerative brain disease, but I was indeed a skilled hacker back in my day and my neural implants have held off the worst of the damage, but it's not perfect. I fear I may have... regressed and fallen back into old habits," she says, pointedly not looking at her grandson, "You can have the data, of course, but I will need your help first. I need to disappear or else the law will catch up to me."
Sep 18, 2024 2:49 pm
Xiordin knew it, it was the woman!

"We did come to recover the data, but also to meet you.
We definitely can provide you some protection. In fact, we may have a way to make your skills useful again. Assuming we can get your degenerative disease under control. Would you be interested in some work?"

"Can you help me fake my death?" she asks, "I think that may be the only way forward, unless you have other ideas?"
Sep 19, 2024 6:02 am
Could you have been on a recently lost ship? We just had to fake some tickets and passenger manifest?
Body would be lost in the void and thus no evidence.

Sioux taps on her computer to get news about recently lost ships.
Sep 20, 2024 1:26 am
Sioux browses Absalom Station's infosphere and finds a passenger ship that was recently lost after it went into the Drift and just never emerged on the other side. It would certainly be possible to modify the passenger list to include Ceren.
Sep 20, 2024 8:46 am
"This would work. But...you couldn't stay here. They may come here looking for the data, even if they believe you dead. The Starfinders can help, if you're willing, but we should leave this place. Soon," He looks to Jubair, "I'm afraid your grandson as well. They will trace things here and may believe him to be the one that did this. I'm certain we keep you together, if you desire this. How long will it take for you to pack? You should have your belongings, but also must make it look like you had gone on a trip, after all."
Sep 23, 2024 10:09 pm
"Will you be able to get me a death certificate and a new identity?" Ceren asks, sounding hopeful, then turns to her grandson, "Start packing. Now." she says.
Sep 24, 2024 5:56 am
"I believe that could be arranged for the both of you. The Starfinder Society has already agreed to take you in if you agree to lend your skills to us. We have the resources, and surely those in charge have a plan for how to do that effectively while keeping you safe."
Sep 24, 2024 11:52 am
Sioux is searching away and finding relevant hack targets. One being a low-level travel agency who just send in the name, address and ID's on the tickets they sold to the missing ship. Hacking their mainframe, altering their ticket information and resubmitting an updated manifest to the charter company would be almost trivial.

Where is the other shoe? Where will it drop? Its almost a bit to easy
Sep 26, 2024 11:32 pm
Ceren smiles, "Great! Let me grab a few things and we'll get out of here," she says, disappearing into another room to pack. About fifteen minutes later, she returns with Jubair, "Are we ready to leave?" she asks. Jubair stands confused at her side, holding a pair of very battered suitcases.
Sep 27, 2024 2:28 am
Xiordin looks at them both in some disbelief. "This is hardly the way one disappears. You look like you're moving. People around here will recognize you and say, 'Oi Tish they didn't die in a shuttle crash, I saw them on Thursday going on hollies.'
Sep 28, 2024 6:28 am
"You're right, to an extent, Xiordin. Packing for a trip is a good cover for removing belongings, and if we can fake such a thing, it might work. But, we'll need to figure out something to protect their identities going forward. The station is populous, however, and it is a problem we can work out once we get them safely back."

He looks at the woman and her grandson, "Ready? We should be going."
Sep 28, 2024 8:07 am
Just a moment. We need to conceal her face and other identifiers before we go. Can't have that she is spotted on a camera today when she is supposed to be dead.

Xiordin let her borrow your coat. Those shoulder pads will disguise her build. And her taste in style she mentally adds.
Sioux looks around and finds an almost transparent green bag, and with the aid of her nanobots conjures up an Environmental Field Collar to which she secures the bag. Within moments the collar has filled the bag with breathable air and her face is concealed.

Now, we are ready

Xiordin nearly draws his blade, but it would be in jest. His eyes flash with uncharacteristic mirth. Removing the outer layer of his Lashunta ringwear, he drapes it around her shoulders. "Sorry for the weight, you can lean on my arm if it gets too much."
Oct 2, 2024 12:46 pm
Ceren takes the outer layer of Xiordin's armor and puts it on. She looks out of place in it, but definitely not like herself, which is the goal. You make your way through the Station, trying not to stand out. You aren't bothered on your way and you make it back to the Lorespire Complex. The receptionist approaches you as soon as you enter, "Welcome back, Starfinders," he says, "I was told you might be coming back with a visitor. Why don't you leave them here with me and head on down to the cortex?"
Oct 3, 2024 3:39 am
Xiordin is a charismatic sort of fellow for a dark hearted warrior. The older woman may be discombobulated. He takes his armor shell back and asks, "Will you be okay here, Miss ..." he pauses thinking of a good secret name, "Truthseeker?" He's not sure that's all that great, but goes with it.
Oct 3, 2024 5:16 am
Reclaiming her nanobots, Sioux gives their hacker a final handshake. Good luck
Then she heads for the cortex.
Oct 4, 2024 5:48 am
Ceren gives you a smile, "I'll be fine," she says, waving off your concern as she follows the receptionist away to a side room.

Historia-7
You make your way back down to the cortex and find Historia-7 in much the same position as when you left, hooked up to a bunch of different machines, "How did it go?" she asks without even looking in your direction.
Oct 4, 2024 10:32 pm
Xiordin leans against the wall, in a dark and bridging way likely lost in the automaton. "Soryn made contact and sussed out the perpetrator. We've recovered the data and brought the perp back. She wishes to fake her death and work for us."
Oct 5, 2024 12:14 am
Historia-7
Historia-7 doesn't respond for so long that you wonder if she hadn't heard you, but then finally responds, "Good. Have you written up the death certificate and assigned her a new identity yet?" she asks, not looking up as she works.
Oct 5, 2024 12:38 am
"Well, truthfully, I was not aware we had clearance to do such things," Soryn says, looking to the others. "Do any of you know how to do such a thing?"
Oct 5, 2024 8:37 am
No not yet. Our priority was to make a believable cover story - that she was on this ship, that recently was presumed lost in space. We have added her to the manifest, and then we brought her here under disguise.
Sioux transfer the information they have already planted and the steps they have performed.
Death certificate should attend itself as officials process the ship manifests. Her new identity, should be solid enough to be scrutinized, and that amount of computing power is not available on this wrist computer. And since she is missing and dead, we could not use her rig.
Oct 6, 2024 6:15 am
Historia-7
Historia-7 sighs, "Fine. I'll do it myself," she says, then under her breath, "Just like everything else around here."

"You're dismissed. Guidance should be reaching out soon, so be ready for your next task."
Oct 6, 2024 2:30 pm
Xiordin leads the crew out of the room and when they get a ways away, asks, "That was easier than I expected, how about you all?"
Oct 8, 2024 2:18 am
Soryn is about to interject, but stops himself. The dismissal is clear, yet he finds it frustrating they might have accomplished more within the scope of Historia-7's expectations of them. "Yeah, easier than expected, but I feel like we performed below expectations. I hope they got what they needed from the data and that it is put to good use in helping the people of the Station. I...think a drink is in order, if anyone might join me."
Oct 16, 2024 12:07 am
About an hour later, you receive another communication from Guidance.

The Exo-Guardians' leader Zigvigix has requested your assistance with a few different tasks. Please report to the art park in the section of the Station known as the "Downlow". They will provide you with additional information upon your arrival
Oct 16, 2024 3:48 am
Xiordin claps his hands. "Now this is more my speed. The Exo-Guardians are likely to need us to do something heroic!"

Garbage litters the ground around the district’s largest art park—a cement lot filled with undulating metal sculptures and covered in graffiti of grotesquely adorable creatures. The sounds of music and chatter drift over from the nearby clubs, chronically interrupted by the roar of local engines. A heavily augmented host shirren* is sitting on one of the park benches, eating a simple meal of cold grub-noodles and rice candy. Their antennae perk up at the tremor of approaching footsteps. "Welcome, new Starfinders! And congratulations!" their voice telepathically projects. "My speech-name is Zigvigix, but feel free to call me Ziggy, if that would be easier for you. Have some rice candy to celebrate your graduation! Today is your big day!"

"I must admit to be curious as well. What do you have in store for us, Ziggy?" Soryn politely takes a piece of rice candy and pockets it for later. "And thank you."
Oct 22, 2024 10:59 pm
Ziggy cocks his head to the side, "Because you graduated today, of course!" he says into your mind with amusement, "Has the busy day scrambled your brain?"

"When you are ready, I have two assignments I could use assistance with. The first is to help me secure a new headquarters on Absalom Station. I’ve been in talks with our station’s protectors, the Stewards, and they were kind enough to give us ownership of a warehouse here in Downlow for that purpose! The current owners no longer want it because a vicious creature took it over and kills anyone who goes inside. Once the threat is gone and the warehouse cargo has been returned to its owners, we can start installing desks and computers, so please go in and incinerate the creature!"

"My second assignment..." Zigvigix twitches their tooth barbs for a moment and then holds out a credstick. "Please buy the brand-new Strawberry Machine Cake album, Star Sugar Heartlove!!!, which is out today, and give it to Historia-7 when you see her. She is the head of the Dataphiles, so you should meet her today if you haven't already! I wish to do it myself, but I... I have trouble standing for long periods of time. Thank you very much!"

"Can't say I'm thrilled with the second task, but I am curious to see if we might elicit more than a sour expression from Historia-7 by bringing such a thing to them." Soryn grins, "But that first task, that sounds fun. I say we tackle that first, what do you all think? Yet, if we perish, we will never have the opportunity to see our friend Historia-7 again...a shame that would be."
Oct 23, 2024 12:04 pm
You are right. We were just there at the Dataphiles.
Lets clear out a warehouse first. But I want to get a bit to eat on the way.

Xiordin smiles broadly. "A task fit for a Starfinder crew!" He then clarifies, "The incineration, not the pop music. I don't even like that band " His eyes shift back and forth to see if anyone buys his deception.
Oct 24, 2024 7:07 pm
Zigvigix
Ziggy clicks his mandibles in amusement, clearly not believing Xiordin's claim of not liking Strawberry Machine Cake. Everyone likes them.

"I appreciate your help," he says, patting his leg, "If my leg worked better, I'd do it myself, but..." he finishes with a shrug.
Oct 24, 2024 11:49 pm
Soryn nods. "An opportunity to test our teamwork in a real ground fight, then. While we get some food for Sioux, we should talk strategy."
Nov 5, 2024 9:20 am
You make your way to the warehouse to take a look at what you are working with. You find it surrounded by security with a barrier set up around it. One of them, an elven woman in an immaculate uniform, steps forward and snaps a salute, "You must be the Starfinders we were told about?" she asks, "Once you're ready to enter, let me know and we'll let down the barrier for you."

The building is a standard metallic warehouse, standing about thirty feet tall. It's not in great condition, rust spots and general city grime adorn the outside, but it seems to be sound enough to get started with, at least once it's seen some care.

The elven security officer nods and presses a button, opening up the way for you to enter. You enter the double doors into the warehouse. The ceiling is 30 feet up and industrial lights hang down, dimly illuminating the rest of the area. One of the bulbs flickers irregularly, making the place seem even more shabby. Sioux's next shot grazes the side of the odd creature, scorching its odd rippling flesh.

Xiordin steps up, slashing at the creature, but he can't seem to find solid footing as he avoids the tentacles and so he attack misses.

Soryn's attack also goes wide as he has to avoid shooting Xiordin in the back.

Scrap and Bolts both fire a shot, one of them hitting solidly in center mass.

The feather stalker begins flailing wildly at Xiordin. One of its tentacles narrowly misses while the other one smacks him in the side.

Alright, so my understanding is that the nanites restored all of Xiordin's stamina, correct?
When you emerge from the warehouse, you make your way around back and find that the corpse of the creature is already being hauled away. It seems that your first task for Zigvigix is complete. "Who knows. Likely they just thought it sounded fun, so named their band after that. Or, perhaps, it's something lost in translation. Whatever the case, let's see what we can find. Anyone know a good music retailer around here?" Soryn, himself only a casual listener of classical Lashunta music, has to reach deep inside his memory to see if he recalls any such places on the station where they might find this album.

Xiordin remembers the new recording. "They're such a great musical group. I am surprised you haven't heard them." His own musical tastes bely his dark countenance and gothic humour. He usually keeps his musical tastes, that lean toward the bubblegum end of the spectrum, a secret.
Dec 24, 2024 3:53 am
Soryn actually knows of a music retailer nearby and you make your way there. You see signs all over the building's windows depicting the members of Strawberry Machine Cake and the name of the new album. There's also quite a line outside waiting for their turn to get in.

OOC:
The band Strawberry Machine Cake is the latest sugar pop sensation in the Pact Worlds
Xiordin is too cool to stand in line for the likes of a sugar pop hackjob, so he gets in line and leans menacingly. Of course, he doesn't suggest they skip this, but he does say before he enters the line, "If you want to try and cut ahead of buy off someone coming out, do it. I'll hold this spot in case that doesn't work." After a moment he adds, "And get two. Just in case. "
Dec 24, 2024 8:00 am
Soryn raises the corner of his mouth in a smile. "Sure, I'll give it a shot and see if we can save some time."

He wanders toward the front of the line and sizes up those at the beginning of the queue. He approaches them and flashes his Starfinder implant. "Anyone feel like helping us out on Starfinder business? Oddly, we need to get a couple copies of this new album. I'll pay a little extra and you can keep the difference - just buy two extras while you're inside." He smiles warmly, hoping to get a bite.

Sioux finds all sorts of fan sites for the band, but quality illegal downloads are hard to find with all of the DRM packed into digital copies of the music. Xiordin grits his teeth, wondering if this was an elaborate prank by Zigvigix. An expensive one, for young Starfinders, who could have used the cred to equip themselves for more pressing adventures.

A short time later, you find Zigvigix in the same place as before. He gives a happy clicking sound as you approach, "I have heard your work at the warehouse went well, yes?" he asks, cocking his head to the side, "And what about purchasing that album for Historia-7?"
Jan 30, 2025 8:52 am

Feb 17, 2025 11:59 pm
The station’s Armada can be seen from the shuttle’s view screen as it takes off, gleaming figures standing out against the emptiness of space. The Master of Stars immediately stands out from the rest, as layers and layers of scaffolding obscure its hull. Tiny lights flicker among the metal beams as distant figures weld plates and heat shields to the ship’s exterior. The shuttle smoothly glides closer until it reaches the starship’s docking bay, slipping through the magic field that keeps the hold pressurized with breathable atmosphere. As the shuttle doors open, a small drone flies in and pops up a holoscreen, displaying a harried-looking ratfolk.

Fitch
"Finally, fresh meat!" the ysoki exclaims over the screen, sounding pleased. "Name’s Fitch—pleasantries over, time to get to work. I had some trouble earlier with the lights flickering on the ship, and now both the lights and computers have suddenly gone out on E-Deck. No idea what’s causing it, but you work this job long enough and—" Fitch’s attention flicks to something offscreen, and she shouts "Kirkath! The welding torch is not a toy! You wanna go in the toddler’s pen with the other kids?" She snorts dismissively before continuing, "Sorry, some of these little ones would cut off their own heads if I let them. It could be some screwed up wiring, but that’s a pretty big system failure for a simple electrical short. I’d prefer to send in some people with combat training to scout it out, just in case someone or something is sabotaging the ship. If it’s nothing, great, get the power back on if you can. If there’s something suspicious, use your comm units to report in to me. I’ll give you the access codes, so—Selicha! If you touch that panel I will staple you to the hull!"

The screen on the drone cuts out, then flashes to display the ship’s schematics and the passwords for the computers on E-Deck.

Sioux easily re-routes power into the area while Xiordin pulls a muscle and begins limping around like an old man.

The lights turn on and the door controls begin to work again, easily sliding open at the push of a button. Scattered barrels and boxes line the lower section of this storage chamber. A hallway continues to the starboard side of the ship, with open door storage units arrayed until the hall curves. A curving hall leads from the fore to the port, also filled with additional empty storage units. You hear a small scrape as if something moved somewhere in the room as well as a whimper.

"I'd whimper too, if I was in the dark and saw us coming in armed and angry!" He manifests solar darkness, which sheds find light in a twenty foot radius. "Interesting. Like, a pet? Can you describe it?" He listens to their description, if they're willing to give it, and tries to piece together what it might be.

"He was little and had black and white fur. His ears were kinda big and super fluffy!" the boy says now that he knows he's not going to be in trouble. The little girl nods excitedly along with her brother's description. Based on the description, it sounds something like a baby panda.

Sioux and Xiordin head down the hall. To the fore of the hall’s curve, a room with exposed ship wiring and internals is accessible. A deactivated computer terminal is located within the tangle of wiring.

Those of you who went with Sioux, make a perception check!

"Cute," Soryn says with a wary smile. "And how many times have you snuck in here to visit this friend of yours? Did it have a cage when you first saw it?"
Mar 20, 2025 1:44 am
Sioux and Xiordin look around the room and something seems out of place, but it's hard to put their finger on it.
OOC:
Give me one more perception check
"No cage. He was just wandering around, so we started feedin' him," the boy explains.

"That's what we were here for today and then the lights went off!" the girl pipes up.
Mar 20, 2025 10:16 am
Xiordin do you see any frayed wires?
Sioux runs through different settings on the scanner. Electromagnetic radiation, heat, arcane... Searching for anything out of place on a spaceship.

Xiordin let's the room speak to him, and tries to put a finger on what's off. "You sense something wrong? Eyes sharp."

You do spot some wires torn out of the wall that look like they've been chewed on. Only a few feet from that, you spot an upside down trash can with the lid sitting on top of it. It seems very out of place here.
Mar 21, 2025 8:08 am
"Alright, how about we find him and get him safe? Then we get you kids back home?" He smiles then adds, "Let's go find my friends." If the kids agree, he leads them out to find where Xiordin and the others went to.

Sioux call in the communicator to all. Found the damaged wires
Then she flips over the trash can

Xiordin draws his blade, ready for some hideous and oversized space parasite to clamber out of the can and try and eat their faces.
Mar 28, 2025 12:53 am
The kids follow several steps behind Soryn, walking alongside Scrap and Bolts, who they find completely fascinating. As they enter the room, you see Sioux flip the trash can open, which then does an odd thing: squeak loudly and transform into the creature that the children described before attempting to rush away on its cute furry paws.

How cute?
Xiordin lunges forward, attempting to slaughter the puppy/space-mimic.

Very cute. Have you ever seen a baby panda? It's a bit like that
Xiordin dives for the creature, but it's too quick for him and he barely misses it, landing on the hard steel floor of the room instead. The thing makes a beeline for the little girl and leaps into her arms, shaking. She begins petting its head to try to calm it, "Don't hurt him!" she begs, "He's just a little guy!"
Mar 29, 2025 4:20 am
"Xiordin! Are you sure such extreme measures are necessary, friend?" Soryn tilts his head toward where the creature is burying itself in the child's arms. "Though we can't let it wander around down here."
OOC:
Does Soryn recognize the creature?

I think I have seen one of these critters before? Skitler? Skittler? Something like that. Looks cute, can be intelligent.

She turns to the creature. Hello little fella. What are you doing down here?
Mar 29, 2025 5:38 pm
"Real cute when they're eating through cables," he mutters even though Xiordin nearly faints when the fiend leaps for the little girl ... and gets a hug.

He stands upright, stiff with embarrassment.
Mar 29, 2025 10:02 pm
Soryn has never seen such a creature before and has no idea what it could be, though it's clearly some sort of shapeshifter considering it was just pretending to be a trash can.

When Sioux speaks to the thing, it looks at her and cocks its head, letting out a few squeaks. It seems calmer when interacting with Sioux than it did with Xiordin.
OOC:
Definitely not a scuriday

"Why don't we focus on getting the kids back, and find out where this thing's home is?"
Apr 1, 2025 1:19 am
It doesn't take long for Sioux to repair the damaged wiring now that she's found its location. With that complete, you lead the children up to the bridge, where you find Fitch waiting with several other Starfinder members.

The two children spot a man on the bridge who looks similar to them. They rush toward him, "Daddy!" they call. He falls to his knees and pulls them into a hug along with the creature they're holding, "Where have you been?"

Fitch
They begin whispering to one another as Fitch speaks up, "Good job, you got the power back on, but what in the hells is that thing?" he asks, looking at the creature.
Apr 1, 2025 4:12 am
"To be honest, I don't think any of us are sure. It is some sort of shapeshifter, so it is difficult to tell if this is it's true form or not. It doesn't seem to have been interested in harming the children, though. I think they have been visiting this creature for some time." He looks around, "This is a space station. Someone must have brought it aboard, whether intentionally or not."
Apr 1, 2025 11:20 pm
"It's never happened that an alien or stranger has sought out children to make a connection with for entirely impolite aims." He stares blankly. "That was dripping with sarcasm."
Apr 2, 2025 2:20 am
Fitch
Fitch looks at the creature for several seconds, deep in thought, "Well, I suppose we'll get some experts on this to see if we can figure out what it is... For now, you've done what you were supposed to. Excellent work. If I'm right, that was your last job, right?" he asks, then checks his datapad and nods before tossing you a credstick with 400 credits on it, "Take some time to rest and don't spend this all in one place."

Kieu Kein, the father of the children walks over and hands you a ring, "For finding my children. I can't thank you enough."
OOC:
You get 400 credits and a Mk 1 Ring of Resistance

You can also advance to level 2!
Apr 2, 2025 8:35 am
"You're very welcome, sir. It seems they have good hearts, trying to bring that creature food."

He nods to Fitch, "It was our pleasure to offer our assistance. It has been a long day, but rewarding." He bows his head respectfully and waits for the others before departing.
OOC:
We're probably all pretty tied on who would best make use of the ring. I'll pass on it for others to claim unless we wanna roll for it.

Its a nice ring, but I think Souix will pass on it. Its magic and she is a tech girl

You head back to Absalom station and get one more message from Guidance.

Congratulations on completing your initiation. You are now considered full Starfinders in good standing. Please take some time to rest and reflect on your tasks today. I will reach out soon with details of your next task within three days.

Anything you want to do in downtime? Family you want to visit or friends you want to see?

Sioux goes online and makes some advanced queries to the atlas station, its almost hacking. With that information she tracks down Jock. A fellow Starfinder candidate that failed the final test.
[ +- ] offgame
She spots him in a mall, selling sunglasses of different tech-levels. He spent more time working on getting the girls numbers, than settling them sunglasses. Its actually a bit sad.
Sioux observes him for some time, before she return home to her flat. Now she is no longer a candidate, she can expect to be called out any minute, so she is going to clean up her appartement and reduce the amount of sessions. Until she gets a ship of her own, she will be living out of a bag and sleep in a capsule hotel.

Xiordin spends time listening to his new Strawberry Machine Cake album, Star Sugar Heartlov, and composing lurid fan fiction to the band members, before destroying those files and exercising between his bouts of literary crime sprees.
