The transition through deep space was dizzying, the dramatic freedom from the confines of the ship's hull a little spoiled by the pressure suit. The Federation, despite their efforts, had never really come up with a satisfactory solution for an Aureilan space helmet. (Though, to be fair, neither had the Aurelians.) Their natural claustrophibia was a barrier and with their wide peripheral vision, a mostly glass structure was necessary. The swing of their beaks also neessitated a large amount of articulation in the neck, and a highly mobile "nose." Motion tracking servo assistance was in wide use in civilian suits, but was not considered up to failsafe standards for Starfleet.
The result was a rather undignified "pince nez" near the front of the helmet. The pinching sensation was minimal, but ever-present, and the two discs on either side of his beak looked, to use the scientific term, rather goofy.
And that didn't even get into the miracle of engineering that were pressurized articulated wings.
So it was unlikely that anyone was more displeased than he was to find the phantom runabout running on minimal power than he was. As they passed through the atmospheric screen, he gritted his beak, unwilling to trust the craft with his continued breathing without a closer inspection.
Trusting the rest of the crew for the moment with the console, he produced his tricorder, scanning for signs of the crew of the mystery ship, or signs of what they had been up to, seeing if he could safely make his way to the cargo compartment.
OOC:
Edit: Aurin's Control+Engineering is 12 (with Engineering 3), so he can provide a pretty solid assist, but isn't the best primary roller here unless we want to bank on his Role and Talents to pry more information out of the system.
If we've truly managed not to bring anyone competent around, he does have "Did the Reading" which will let him use Science in place of engineering, bringing us up to a 14 (5) at the cost of Momentum, but it seems a bit spendy so early in the scenario.
