The Pinicon Belt

Devar reminds himself to stay calm at the alarms and Ensign Drake’s explanation of the sensor readings. He takes a look at his own tricorder to recognize any changes or similarities to his crew members’ physiological state.
OOC:
@Qralloq Not sure if I should or what to roll operate the tricorder, but I will if you want

@Seck, no roll needed.

Jayce detects a rising alarm in each of the crewmembers, although they're not nearing an episode or breakdown. Given time, the stress may build but for now they're professionals.

Luna finds there is no response from the Christa McAuliffe, not even an automated carrier wave response of a connection being established. If it's in this reality, it's out of range.

A sense of deep foreboding envelops Drake when they receive no response from the McAuliffe. Somehow, he knew there wouldn't be one. This had now become much more of an adventure than he had hoped.

Cole, his mouth drawn in a tight line, eyes narrowed intensely, bit back the words of his youth that were unbecoming of a Starfleet officer as the team made their reports. While in no way a perfect galaxy, he was rather attached to it, flaws and all, and did not relish being stuck in another reality permanently. Turning to his science officer, doing his best to keep his frustration with the situation out of his tone, "Thoughts Lieutenant? Please tell me you caught something on the scans right before we shifted that we might be able to replicate?"
Apr 11, 2024 8:54 pm
"The Christa is not responding. It's like it is not there anymore." Luna reports. She looks at the cartography to see if they are still in the Pinicon Belt (either original or alternate version) or somewhere else entirely.

OOC:
Augh, my post was eaten by my browser.
Aurin gripped the edges of his console as the readings spiked, eyes widening as they seemed to suddenly be awash in a strange energy field. He pulled in a breath, holding it, then looking around the cabin, scanning for a moment to see if anything had changed. But everything seemed to be in order.

"There was nothing... sharp enough to trigger the alerts, Commander. We were one place and then, suddenly, someplace else." He ran his thumb along the edge of his beak. "There is good news... Planck constants seem to be within survivable parameters. No major damage. And, well, I'd have the doctor double check, but it appears we aren't melting into goo. I think if our fundamental chemistry was altered, we would probably notice pretty quickly."

He ducked his head back down, running the scans again, seeing if their quantum signature matched any known values, such as the shuttle they had seen previously. "If there's any pattern I can detect, it may just be a matter of sitting tight and waiting to head back."
Apr 11, 2024 10:06 pm
Drake looks up from his scanner, his face a little pale.

"Luna, the Christa is likely in another dimension. At least the ship as we know it. My scans are showing up nothing but odd readings that don't make sense. Interference is making it impossible to identify. We might find another version of the Christa as we did with the Raven. "

M'Ress Continues to try to calm herself, the crew needs her, though no one is injured yet. but she can't seem to focus

Without warning, a hand phaser blast erupts from a nearby asteroid and narrowly misses the Raven. It’s too dark to see who fired the shot, but you suspect the attacker is taking cover in the asteroid field. Roughly fifty meters of empty space separates you from the attacker’s asteroid.

Despite the gravity of their situation Cole was pleased that his officers were keeping their heads, forcing a smile he replied to Aurin's assessment of the quantum realty they had found themselves in, "Well, there is that." Whatever follow up quip that may have been on his tongue was cut short by phaser fire from the asteroid field.

"RED ALERT," Cole bellowed, stepping to peer over his security officer's shoulder, "Was that a hand phaser?."

Brow furrowing in some sort of incredulous confusion he added, "And find me where and who that came from."

Luna readies herself for making evasive maneuvers if there should be any more incoming fire.
OOC:
I take it weapon and shield controls are in the hands of someone else, so she'll just focus on the pilot part.
Apr 12, 2024 10:44 pm
Devar suggests, "Commander, if there is any indication that the phaser fire signature comes from a Starfleet issued phaser--from our quantum reality or otherwise--perhaps we could attempt a hailing frequency. It is possible the attacker may have a Starfleet communicator as well and respond, or in the very least delay the attack. We have no idea what the motivation of this attacker is."

Analyzing a phaser by the signature of the beam: it's definitely Starfleet, the runabout's sensors give you that much. Identifying the specific weapon would be harder.

Reason + Science Difficulty 3, Runabout Assists with 7+0 (Sensors+Science)

Rolls

Runabout (7) - (1d20)

(2) = 2

OOC:
Anyone want to take the Reason + Science roll? I would for Cole, but I don't think that he offers our best chance of success. His TN would be (10) Reason 9 + Science 1.

OOC:
Drake has the same as Cole.

OOC:
Sorry, running things solo at work and been ground into the dirt.
"It's a low intensity phaser. Consistent with a hand weapon. It can't be far." He knew the Runabout's sensors were doing poorly in the conditions, but surely it could detect a weapon within range. And perhaps a lifeform holding it.

"I'm more inclined to think it's a signal rather than an attack. Unless our shields were down and structural integrity fields were heavily compromised, I can't imagine the effect they imagined it would have..."

Rolls

Reason (12) + Science (5) [Sensor Operations] - (1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (13) = 13

1d20 : (12) = 12

Ships Die - (1d20)

(18) = 18

"Our shields were up and running normally. I've been monitoring them. Unless I am receiving erroneous information due to the interference."

Seems to finally calm herself. If there is someone who needs rescuing, then we should help them

"If it's a starfleet officer out there, and we can't raise them on standard communications channels, they may respond to a signal. We could flash exterior lights in a binary or rhythm code... Morse, perhaps?" He looked around the bridge, wondering if he sounded crazy. "They are clearly within visual range, no matter how good a shot they are."

"Morse!? Well, I could try using the forward floodlight projector to send a Morse code." Luna turns on the floodlight and aims it in the direction of the attack.

"They taught us it at academy out of tradition. Never thought I'd ever use it. Let me see if I remember."

••••/••//•/-

The floodlight goes in a series of short flashes followed by a long flash.
