Officer Grey reaches into the drawer again and pulls the last item, a large ancient book wrapped in silk cloth. Unwrapping it reveals a book with the title written in Greek. Bound in weathered leather, its cover adorned with faded sigils of arcane origin, it exudes an aura of profound antiquity. Its pages, yellowed with the passage of time.

Lettie reads the cover, The Book of Dreams.

A dragging sound on the floor interrupts your investigation of the room. The mutilated body of the room’s tenant shifts its limbs and suddenly lurches to a standing position.
You look on in terror as the flesh around Mr. Gardiner’s head begins to peel, the flesh spiraling downward like some horrific party trick with an apple. The blood-slicked skull turns to look in the direction of The Book of Dreams with malevolence in its lidless eyes.

Jack's days as a thick-skinned farmhand are proving less and less useful as the day goes on, as here is yet another sight that has him brimming with panic. In his native Lithuanian: "What in God's name!" He trips over his feet trying to get away from whatever fresh hell just took hold of Mr. Gardiner and catches himself on the table on the other side of the door. He thinks about trying to shield Nora by stepping between her and Mr. Gardiner, but can't seem to fight back the fear long enough to be chivalrous.

Jack has now lost a total of 8 sanity and his threshold for indefinite insanity, so he is definitely beginning to fray. Another two and he goes under!

All thoughts of tomes and dreams leave Lettie's mind when she sees the mutilated corpse stumbling towards them. She drops the books she is holding and backs into the bookcase in horror.

How's George handling things @braedan51 ?
Apr 19, 2024 11:01 pm
George jumps back colliding with the sink counter behind him. Dear GOD! he exclaims.
His forearms instinctively raise up to his chest, his palms facing outward in decidedly non-heroic manner
OOC:
Sanity Check = pass (-1)

Ok with the initial shock of seeing Gardiner literally raise from the dead , we are on Initiative. Nora, you're up first, what would you like to do?

Dex Order:
Nora 80
Jack 55
Officer Grey 55
George 50
Lettie 40
Gardiner-Thing 35

Nora's eyes dart around, seeing how this scene has devolved in madness from what was previously already precariously pushing the bounds of decorum or good taste. Nora steps to Officer Grey, gesturing emphatically to his service weapon. "Officer, here's your chance, apprehend Mr. Gardiner for questioning!" Her voice becomes shrill as the reality of a man unraveling from his own skin stretches and frays the tenuous hold she has on her emotions.

How about you Jack?@Niyaz316

Jack takes a sharp breath and grits his teeth to try and compose himself. He then steps around the table and behind the chair in the corner of the room. In a half-panicked attempt to try and end the craziness, he picks up the chair and throws it at Mr. Gardiner.
OOC:
I’m still wrapping my head around the rolls but I think this would be a Throw check, so I included one in case.

Throw - (1d100)

(2) = 2

OOC:
Good job! Not only is that a direct hit, but it's an Extreme Success, meaning you do max damage. A chair is a pretty hefty improvised weapon, so the damage would be 1d8 +your damage bonus, which given Jack's strength and size is 1d4. That's a total of 12 damage! As it's is over half its HP, that also has the potential for a Major Wound. At this point I roll against CON to see if it knocks him out. It does not.
Jack launches the chair with great force at the thing. It hits straight in the chest, forcing it to stumble backwards toward the window.

Lettie sees the creature that used to be her friend look towards the Book of Dreams before it is assaulted by the others. She attempts to dive for the book and get it away from Gardiner's reach.

Apologies for the delay, this week has really gotten away from me. I guessed for my roll, but will gladly edit the post if you want a different skill to be used!
