Scene 3: The Dungeon

Merton melts out of the gloom and the halfling rogue nods at Firina. "I'm Merton." He then fades back into the darkness.

As Hindle potters about, he does find a few missed items including: loose change totaling to 100 gold and a shortbow.
OOC:
The characters can make a Perception check if you want to look for more treasures.

OOC:
If your character would like to purchase something, describe what it is, including a magical item if you wish, and he'll state what the price is. You may also instead state how much the character is willing to pay and Derv will state if he will take the deal or not.
A wand of the war mage would be great. :) Not that I got more than 10 gp left ...
Oct 7, 2024 6:16 pm
Firina looks in a little shock at Merton.

"Oh. Uhm. Hi there. I had not seen you in a bit there."
OOC:
I have plenty of gold left from the character creation, but I don't think I'd have it on me here, so I would pass on buying.
Oct 8, 2024 1:15 am
Alax digs around in a small bag hidden in a pocket. Amazingly, an unusually long wand with a spider on the end comes out!

"Erm, here's something I can let go. One of the adventurers sold it to me so they could buy something else in my inventory. They said it's good for wizards in war I suppose? I could let it go for 400 gold..."

He looks around and focuses on the glowing inside the adult gelatinous cube.

"Hey, that's right. There's a gem inside that one. I bet that has to be worth at least 400 gold and we could exchange for it. Or just getting my silvered frying pan would be worth it! That'll help me fight whatever is ahead of us..."
Oct 8, 2024 8:24 pm
"Gear is important, but not as important as preserving life - I for one am not willing to endanger a nursing mother for personal gain." Leana looks at the others with fervor. "I think, however, while the mom-cube is asleep, we could quickly build something resembling a sieve. By having observed the organisms movement, I reckon - if we put a sieve through gently, the objects will come out without hurting the host." The druid looks around for material to build something like the kitchenware she has in mind. "If we can't manage, I guess a stick would do fine..."
OOC:
I'd like to try and build something. Also, I have gp to spend - any chance there are some insignia of claws (for wild shape) lying around or maybe a staff of the woodlands or a moon sickle?
Oct 9, 2024 6:10 am
"A sieve? What an excellent idea! " the dwarf mumbles absent minded as he inspects the items.
OOC:
Pretty cool stuff. Any takers? :)
"But let us open this door first, just in case things turn sideways. " he waves at the next door. Ready to help building the sieve, the wizard goes to get Alax his pan back and himself a nice wand or two.
Oct 9, 2024 1:30 pm
Merton melts back out of his hiding place and steps over by the door to the tower, beyond the cells. He fishes out a torch, lights it, and wedges it into a good spot like he did in the cellar. He then starts to fiddle around as the rest of the party discusses building a sieve.

Alax claps a little at the thought of building a sieve.

"Wonderful! Since the big jelly cube is docile now, it should be little trouble to get the items out with that..."

Digging through the bag again, the dragonborn now takes out a hand sickle with a silver blade and it glows ever so slightly in the darkness.

"Hum, this looks like something that could be useful. Another inventory dumping on the local innkeeper I suppose, but I could also let it go for about 400 gold..."
OOC:
Sounds good about the sieve! Should be easy to make with the cell bars and possibly bones around the dungeon. I will say DC 10 to successfully use it without disturbing the gelatinous cube! Please have Leana roll a 1d20 @Adrasthea

With Brickowsky's help, Leana starts building the sieve.

Firina stands by as the others are building.
Still readying her armor and shield probably.
OOC:
Keeping close track on the post, but don't feel I can do much atm.

Adrasthea says:
With Brickowsky's help, Leana starts building the sieve.
OOC:
@Adrasthea Excellent success! You may narrate how Leana uses the sieve and if she has any other insights or items she finds inside the cube! Right now, there is definitely a glowing yellow gemstone, a skull, and a silvered frying pan that appears to belong to Alax.
OOC:
If Firina would like she may want to check out the items Brickowsky identified so far and see if anything would be helpful to her at all. She can also roll perception to see if anything was missed in the dungeon since she has darkvision.
Oct 10, 2024 3:38 pm
After some brainstorming, they put together an inventive plan using spare cell bars from the dungeon and a few bones. Brickowski and Leana build a giant sieve—its bars wide enough to strain the cube and rid it of any interesting objects.
They stand before the gelatinous thing, its contents suspended in thick, wobbling goo. With the appropriate sobriety, Brickowsky stands on his toes and lifts their makeshift sieve of cell bars and bones. "Well" he exclaims "this situations is about to get strained."

Leana helps him position the contraption and raises an eyebrow at her friend. She hesitates for a moment, then they plunge the sieve into the cube, the slimy mass oozing through the bars as they sift for hidden loot. The druid tries to make sure the creature is not being harmed or even disturbed too much. Slowly, objects begin to emerge—rusty things, silver things, and a few sparkling ones.

Leana and Brickowski make sure to get all the loot and bring it to their friends. Oddly enough, the cube does not seem to have noticed.

As the other build, and are busy with the cube, Firina keeps a bit her distance, lest her clattering around in her heavy armor wakes up the cubes. Being new in this dungeon, she does take her time to look around carefully in the dark.

Trying to be helpful and learn more of her surroundings, Firina takes advantage of her darkvision to see if she missed learning anything else about where they were and her new companions. As she looks around, she sees a small shelf near where Merton works on the door and steps over. She picks up the bottles that lay there and finds a couple with labels. One says 'Potion of Healing' and another says 'Potion of Speed.' She also finds a small pouch with 150 gold pieces in it.

OOC:
Love the results of the sieve!
The adult gelatinous cube shimmers a little, one would almost think it is happy to have items it no longer wants removed, and stills again. Leana and Brickowsky take the loot over to the others and lay out what they were able to salvage. Many rusty, half-dissolved items are discarded to the side for now and only the items that may still be useful are laid out to dry.

- Glowing yellow gemstone, Brickowsky can already tell it is a topaz
- Alax's silvered frying pan, he moves over and picks it up exclaiming "Thank you so much! I wouldn't be able to make my chicken wing croquettes without this!"
- Skull
- Iron censer attached to a solid wooden handle with an iron chain (could be used as a flail), it sparkles a little with something else
- Shortbow, sparkling a little with something else

The group hears a click and Merton steps back. "Done." He takes a quick look at the items, but shrugs and melts back into the darkness.

After sieving the cube through, the dwarf takes the next round of treasures and looks them over. Leana helps and gives the magician some guidance to support him.
OOC:
In this order: frosty staff, glowing yellow gemstone, skull, iron censer, shortbow

Still looking for takers:
+1 Shield
Tome of Clear Thought (Brickoswky would take that one)
Speak with Dead spell scroll (Brickoswky would take that one)
Scimitar of Speed

Firina picks up the healing and speed potions, and informs the others.

Anyone wants these? she asks to the others. Then she eyes the shield. I couls certainly use that if no one else wants it.
Oct 15, 2024 1:20 pm
Brickowsky and Leana continue to work together to puzzle out what has been salvaged from the cube and found in the dungeon. With renewed vigor, Brickowsky identifies all but one item.

The frosty staff is clearly a Staff of Frost that can project a cone of cold energy (5 charges), or a fog cloud (1 charge), or create an ice storm (4 charges), or a wall of ice (4 charges). In total, the staff has 10 charges and will not renew again until the next day's dew. It also gives the wielder resistance to cold damage.

The topaz, now looked at more closely, only glows because it has a Continual Light spell cast upon it. Perhaps someone had enchanted it before being consumed or captured?

The skull is nothing special on its own, but clearly belonged to the headless skeleton they had first encountered in the dungeon, the one that held the scimitar so tightly in its death grasp.

The iron censer is a Devotee's Censer that can be used as a flail and a holy symbol. It can cause extra 1d8 radiant damage with its hits and, as a bonus action, speak a command word to emanate a thin cloud of incense that stretches out to 10 feet for 1 minute. At the start of the wielder's turn during that time, the wielder and any creatures in the cloud regain 1d4 hit points. This bonus action can only be used once until the next day's dawn.

With one final look, the shortbow sparkles a little, but not clear if it's due to the slime it was covered in or something else.
Oct 15, 2024 5:18 pm
"Of course - take the shield, swordmaiden. And maybe the scimitar? Your hands seem the most capable." False modesty doesn't befit an adventurer, Brickowsky thinks by himself. Life and death don't reward humbleness.

Taking the scroll and the frost staff for himself for the moment, the dwarf knows, that some items will cost time to master. And this ain't neither the place nor the proper moment to do so.

After everybody shifted through their new found loot, the wizard nods thankfully at Leana. As always a invaluable help in this kind of matters. Taking the unclaimed items and placing them back into the bag of holding they had found at the inn, the spellslinger declares: "Let's roll out of here. The day grows long and there is still a mystery to be unraveled."

He turns around and starts waltzing over to the open door.
OOC:
The scimitar is a +2 weapon (to attack and damage) and you can attack with it as a bonus action, while still profiting from the shield.

For the moment still for grabs:
Tome of Clear Thought
Scimitar of Speed (?)
topaz, it has a Continual Light spell cast upon it.
Devotee's Censer
magic short bow

Please feel free to claim something useful for yourself, this is still an one-shot, so selling this stuff doesn't hold any advantage. :D
