It's not until the entire group leaves the inn does Wembil spot Allyk again. He stays close to the undead man's side.

Dormir gives a gruff "Humph!", catches up to Thalnazz, his armor jingling merrily with each pounce of his boots meeting the ground, and rests his hand on the elf's shoulder. "Might ye clue us in to where ye leadin' us? Me thinks a plan should be crafted."

Making their way through the forests of Ashenvale, Wembil stays close to Allyk, keeping a curious eye on the undead man, determined not to lose sight of him.

Yes, and Meridia studies the gem and the magical fluctuations faintly emanating from deep within ... but also from somewhere else. You determine your knowledge (arcana) is sufficient to ward the gem. It will merely require a variation on the alarms and wards spell. Like any good mage, you surely have that particular spell in your spell book, right? Though how she's kept the gem from Dormir for so long is anyone's guess.
