Here, you hold and support that end and I'll do the lifting over here.

Baric pushes up his sleeves, grabs one end of the beam, and grunts and strains under the weight, edging the beam closer to the door with Devanis' help.

Though any one of you may have failed alone, together the combined efforts of Erran keeping the door closed along with Ameera's, Baric's and Devanis' brute force, the beam is successfully wedged into place. There is pounding on the other side of the door, and some creaking as the beam adjusts to the pressure, but soon after things go quiet.

The silence persists for several seconds more, and for a moment you feel that you may be safe here.

Baric lightly slaps his hands against each other, removing the dust from them. He leans against the door and notices the surrounding paintings. He begins to inspect the painting directly across from the door, stepping over debris to more closely view the history of these crypts.

That was quite the collection of dangerous dead things, eh? Is everyone well?

Ameera moves to the dividing wall, towards the left door. She leans heavily on the wall, resting her arms on top, then her head on her arms. Let's not do that again. We need to be more careful and if we're attacked again, know ahead of time who is doing what. Ameera picks up her head I have something that can help. I also need to rest, I don't know if this is the best place for that.

"Ameera is right, we need to work on our teamwork. I'm going to check the eastrn door and make sure we're not ambushed. Someone take the western door.

Devanis sheathes his sword and reloads his crossbow. Then he goes to check the door.

As the party looks around the room, the torchlight---as well as your darkvision, if applicable---allows you to get passing glances of each of the portraits...

Baric, we're still not in the Dwarven realm, right? Is this is all part of a more recently fallen temple? Ameera back away a step from the dividing "wall" she briefly leaned upon. Don't stick your hands in that pointing to the structure, wiping her nose on her sleeve unless you want to smell of mold and rot. There is some sort of foul trough in there.

After a moment, Ameera points to the image of the red haired female warrior. Well that sure looks like someones idea of Morro, don't you think Baric? and that... pointing to the image of skulls and bones our friend the Exhumed?. Without even noticing herself as she says this, she makes a quick gesture with her hand.

. As Ameera scans the portraits, she is now drawn toward the one farthest from her.

Erran breathes out a sigh of relief as silence comes from the other side of the door, that was too close.

"Yes, our tactics could use a bit of refining," he adds, "We'll meet an untimely demise down here if our prerogatives do not align when trouble strikes. Regardless, I'm glad to see we all made it."

Sword in hand, Erran approaches the western door cautiously.

"Well, if we go charging in with blades raised every time we are sure to die. Courage means nothing down here. We aren't here to fight some glorious battle. Plain and simple, we're here to steal some goods for the guild and figure out what's down here before running back up to the surface. Engaging those creatures back there is counterintuitive to our mission, and just plain stupid to boot. We need to be more cautious and more careful next time. Let's be honest here: I won't die for any of you, and you won't die for me. This is not the time to write tales of heroism and bravery. Not unless you want to end up as one of those corpses too." Pyrrah glowers as she throws her repaired bow over her shoulder and looks around the room, illuminating the paintings with her torchlight. She finds herself drawn to the first two depicting the strange monsters. Just what were these things?

"Your points are valid, my dear," Erran responds to Pyrrah, making his way across the room. "Though I must disagree partially as courage will always be a powerful tool in our arsenal when utilized wisely. Don't misconstrue my following statement as contempt, but if we had all stood our ground back there, we wouldn't currently have enemies on both fronts.

As Erran reaches the door, he turns the handle, testing to see if it seems able to be opened.

"I have no knowledge of how you operate, but I for one do not fancy wagering on the idea that we will find another exit from this place. There is a time for retreat and a time to face the threat head on, regardless of which decision is the correct one for the time, that decision must be made as a group. I thank the gods there wasn't something much deadlier in this room. You're clearly skilled, miss, but it could have been a rather unpleasant experience if you and Ameera were overwhelmed by something in here while the rest of us were being swarmed. I don't want to die for you either, ma'am, but I will if it means ensuring that our time down here isn't spent in vain. Although, knowing where your guildmates allegiances lie is valuable knowledge, either way, I will have your six, even if you cannot say the same for me. Like I said, I'm just glad everyone's feet are still on the ground. I'm going to take a peek in this next room, ready yourselves."

OOC:
We are converting the game to using Inspiration as standard in the PHB. You either have it or you don't (1 or 0). For now, you've all done fantastic roleplaying, so each of you has Inspiration.

Discerning no immediate threat beyond the eastern door, and hearing Erran say that he is going through the opposite door, Devanis crosses over and joins the elf.

Responding to Ameeras question, Devanis says, "Before the temple moved to its location outside of the city proper and upon the hill, it was located in the city's center. Many buildings were destroyed when the Rift formed, and the Old Temple was one of them. It had a crypt far beneath the ground. I believe that the crypt's position shifted when the Rift was formed, and that this is it."

The ranger alternately shakes and nods his head at Pyrrah and Erran's exchange. "You both have a point. There is a time to fight and there is a time to flee. What's important is we do either one together. We need to work together to survive down here and make it back out.

"From what we saw back there we now know that Erran and Baric are formidable fighters up close, and our dwarf friend is able to bolster morale with his music. Ameera and Pyrrah are quite frankly terrifying at range. Ameera was even, by some arcane art I don't pretend to understand, briefly able to frighten that skeleton! As for myself I am more of an explorer than a warrior but I can hold my own in close quarters or at range. I think that is they way we should fight and also the way we should retreat if need be. Rely on each other's strengths, and help each other where there is a lack. don't you agree?"
OOC:
With my knowledge of religious iconography do the portraits look to me like accurate depictions of the pantheon? Is there any variance from how they would be depicted today? Can I maybe estimate roughly how long ago these were painted? Might I also know the best way to handle/retrieve these valuable artifacts?

Not commenting further on the conversation, Ameera continues toward the painting on the south east wall. She passes Devanis on the other side of the divider, going the opposite direction. Upon reaching the painting, she reaches up and caresses the cheek of the face depicted so beautifully. Ameera whispers They knew she's not evil.

"Just what kind of temple was this? Why do they display an image of Cenerine with such reverence?" She frowns at the image illuminated in the torchlight.
