And is the landscape rough enough to provide a chokepoint of trees or embankments that they couldn't simply ride around us? The map of Endier indicated hills and forests in the direction we were headed. End quote
In my mind's eye, I see a wall of dry stone, waist high, surrounding a field of winter barley. We just let ourselves into the field through a gate or maybe the horses hopped/stepped over the wall. Anyway, the wall keeps the sheep out of the field.
I see the wall providing 50% cover when standing & 75% cover kneeling behind it. To get at us, the mercenaries have to get over the wall. Maybe, they jump the wall on horseback. Maybe, they dismount then climb over the wall. Either way, the wall will break any charge and slow the mercenaries down at least a bit. We're still outnumbered 4:1.
We still have 20 riders to deal with. There are enough riders that some will get over the wall in other places. If we're going to make a stand here, I'll talk about strategy IC.
Coleburn's crossbow has been on display tired behind his saddle so that weapon isn't a mystery. Cole carries a long sword on his left hip and two daggers in a bandolier over his left shoulder (Cole is right-handed.) A dagger sticks out the top of his right boot.
DM: the other weapons are in his rooms in the city.
