Leg 2

Nov 17, 2016 8:35 am
After regrouping, the crew continues on it's journey a little worse for wear. A few hour pass as the route takes them past alternating scenes of overgrown farmland and what was once rural residential areas.

It is midday and the sun peaks through the canopy of the trees. The sound of their breath and footsteps is interrupted by a faint tinny noise somewhere in the area past the trees to the east. As you continue walking, you realize that it's the trumpet solo from Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire being played over and over again...poorly.

"I fuckin' love this song"
Nov 17, 2016 2:25 pm
Hmm Hmm Hmm Hm Hm Hm. Ham-Bone hums along for a few bars. Yeah, Run, gotta love it. What I don't love is that its playing out here in the fuckin' Loss. Whose gonna do that? Attract Casualties. Ham-Bone listens for the source and raises his binoculars, hoping to identify the location,

Sheeeit. There's nutter up a tree blowing on a trumpet surrounded by Casualties. He's playin' Taps for his own funeral.
OOC:
Can Ham-Bone determine how many Casualties are below?
Nov 17, 2016 4:01 pm
OOC:
Not really... There are at least three that you can see, but if he continues to blow that horn, that number will inevitably grow.
Nov 17, 2016 4:16 pm
OOC:
by the way, don't feel obligated to save this guy just to move forward plot. Play this however you feel that your seasoned Takers would.

Nov 17, 2016 5:09 pm
Run cannot pass by an underdog without helping and this guy definately fits the bill.

"Maybe he has something he'd reward us with, let's help him out."

Not waiting for an answer, Run draws his bat once more and moves in hoping for a surprise whack.
Nov 17, 2016 5:41 pm
And if we are too late, maybe he has bounty on him. Ham unslings his rifle and holds it ready, scanning the surroundings for movement.

Claire keeps quiet about her opinion on the rescue mission, she assumes her partners are dead set on helping him out. Best case scenario, they have a guy who can play sweet tunes for them. "Every group needs a designated trumpet blower." She says with an edge of sarcasm, following her companions' lead.
Nov 19, 2016 12:55 pm
Its three to one to help the guy. says Ham-Bone oblivious to Claire's sarcasm. Let's stay low until we can get a better look. Ham-Bone moves forward quietly using whatever cover the terrain affords to stay out of view of both the Cs and the trumpeter. He wants a better look at the situation

Rushing ahead, Run finds himself in a small clearing in the woods. Ham Bone approaches more slowly but can also see the man in the tree. The young man has dark hair and is wearing a black sweatshirt with a large '5' spray painted on it in white. He does not appear to have any weapons and only has a small backpack. He is disheveled and dirty, but does not appear to be injured.

When Run appears, he stops playing the trumpet and deftly climbs higher up the tree and out of the reach of the Casualties.

Nov 26, 2016 2:56 pm
Ok, maybe it's not that desperate. I'll save my twitch for a dodge
Nov 27, 2016 3:46 pm
OOC:
FYI, with that swing Run is out of rations and technically "gassed" which means that Run would not be able to take any further "rigorous, physical activity" until he can replenish those rations. I could be wrong, but I think the definition of rigorous physical activity is anything that would require you to buy a roll (i.e., melee attacks, athletics rolls to escape, basically any STR-based skill or Athletics uses including dodging.

To replenish rations, you have two options:
You can always refresh via using one of your ADP-based refreshes (of which Run has one available). Doing so replenishes all 10 of your rations (or one of your sets of 10 rations if you purchased more than one set of rations).

You also can dig deep and tap your inner energy reserves, you basically take one round to rest and then this makes an additional number of rations available to you equal to your SPD potential (in Run's case that would be 3 ration charges). This can only be done once. This is really a last ditch effort...After using this option, even if you used your refresh you would only regain up to a max of your SPD potential until you get a chance to have a longer-term rest like overnight.

On a separate note, it's not entirely clear to me whether or not dodging attacks cost you a ration. I've decided to not count it against you until I read otherwise (but like I said, I've not seen it explicitly written). You can still spend rations to increase your bonus to a dodge roll and that would count against your ration charges.

Dec 8, 2016 9:06 pm
OOC:
Loan Shark is in the clear as long as you are going back the way you came. Claire and Ham Bone need athletics checks to outmaneuver and distance themselves enough from their respective mobs to escape. Run needs to end his melee either by killing the remaining zombies or disengaging and then running (Essentially 2 athletics rolls on two consecutive turns). All of those athletics rolls must be bought with a ration charge, but you can spend multiple rations to give yourself extra bonuses to your black die. Each extra ration gives you an additional plus one. All of that assumes you have at least one point of athletics, if not you have to roll a black die under your SPD potential. It still costs one ration to roll, but you can't spend extra rations for bonus.
Dec 9, 2016 3:50 am
Never being particularly keen on engaging at all, Run pulls out. Come on guys he's free lets just bug out.
Dec 9, 2016 6:52 am
Claire looks over at Loan, "Yeah, lets back out... not down to get bit." She attempts to distance herself from the danger.
OOC:
Yet another failed roll... this damn character lol. Claire has a good amount of rations, so how do I add bonus to my roll?

Edit: Oh, guess I can spend two more rations to get extra bonus on the roll. Seems I would have 21 Ration Charges left.

If years of experience hadn't taught you otherwise, it would seem as though the C's had coordinated their counterattack perfectly to take advantage of Run's botched attack. Just as Run's bat recoiled off the branch overhead, one zombie attacks his legs as the other swipes at his back. Even so, Run's fast twitch reflexes win the day as he leaps away from one and over the other. In one smooth motion, Run rolls back up to his feet facing the zombies, bat raised over his head and promptly pounds the lower zombie into the ground.
