How was the background feature determined, I didn't roll a d8?
For background equipment what does it mean by: any items with which you are proficient?
What is Mariner's armor? Never mind, useless for warlocks. I'm confused.

Sailor Background
Trait - to me, a tavern brawl is a nice way to get to know a new city
Trait - I work hard so that I can play hard when the work is done.
Ideal - I'm a predator and all the other ships on the sea are my pray
Bond - the ship is most important - crew mates and captains come and go
Flaw - once someone questions my courage, I never back down no matter how dangerous the situation.
Mystery shopper gave you the following extra stuff:
Potion of mind reading x 2
Container of 10 ammunition, +2
I took what you rolled on a d20 and divided it by 20, then multiplied by 8 to convert it to what a d8 would have been. Since the backgrounds all have different counts for features, this let me have one dice roll applicable for all.
Mariners armor is light or medium. Since warlocks can wear light armor, this isn't quite useless. If you all end up in the water it can be very useful. You can apply it to any light armor you start with (leather I believe for warlocks).
As for that items you are proficient with thing, any non weapons or armor you are proficient with (so tools and gaming sets and stuff)
