OOC:
Thyran does not see more in the woods atm. No cover is right.
Thyran's phaserburst hits one of the devolved humans in the chest, incapacetating him. Shocked by this, the others start hurling rocks at him.
OOC:
4 successes from nadim is a success, and -1 +1 momentum makes no change in momentum. To make things interesting, let's say that the tasks takes about a round each, so we stay in sync with the rest of the events. You don't have to act in initiative though, just act when it suits you, once per round.
OOC:
First attacker misses Thyran, Phenna can (and join the combat or help Nadim and Sevek)

Rolls

Hurling rocks (TN7) - (2d20)

(147) = 21

Jan 15, 2017 12:47 am
OOC:
Are you taking over Morales or are we sidelining him?
Jan 15, 2017 2:32 am
Phenna dashes out of the lab and into the hallway. Hearing the warning to barricade the main door, she begins working quickly toward that end, checking the keypad to ensure it's locked. If there are any boxes, crates, shelves or things of that nature, she'll try using those to put a physical barricade in place.

That's right Phenna, don't open the door. Opening the door lets them in. Letting them in lets them near the others. Letting them near the others gets the others killed.
OOC:
Not sure what, if any, checks need to be made here.
Jan 16, 2017 7:20 am
OOC:
Falryx: I'm assuming you're asking about Martinez? I'm assuming he is there on the sidelines making commands etc, but I don't see any reason to use him mechanically. I think you have this covered. Feel free to use him if you need him though.
OOC:
Phenna: Let's do this as an opposed check vs one of the humanoids that are trying to break in from the other side. It should be a Bravery + Security task. I'll roll mine hidden in case you want to use momentum etc. Since you are trying to keep the door shut, and he is trying to force entry, I'll treat his task as 1 difficulty higher than yours (he is basically penalized one momentum)
While one of the devolved humans continues to try to force entry, another one breaks off a light fixture from the outpost and hurls it at Thyran. The light fixture smashes against the wall next to Thyran, making a rain of sparks in front of him.

Rolls

Hurling light fixture TN7 - (2d20)

(419) = 23

Opposed task (forcing entry) TN10 - (2d20)

Jan 16, 2017 3:25 pm
Phenna, in her fear of being overrun, is bound and determined to keep these fiends out. She uses 1 momentum to buy a dice and 1 determination to get a 1.
OOC:
Post-Roll:
Phenna finds herself in a surplus of materials. 6 successes (2 from determination, 4 from the rolls)

Rolls

Opposed Check (Bra+Sec=TN12) - (3d20)

(1241) = 17

Jan 16, 2017 5:33 pm
"Sounds rather exciting out there doesn't it?" Nadim says lightly as he continues. He moves over to Dr. Shipp and begins to analyze her symptoms -- driven on by what is afoot outside the lab.
OOC:
Going to use 3 momentum on this one. Target of 13. I think that's 4 success -- so a return of 1 momentum to the pool? And whew! Think I narrowly missed a complication or 2!

Rolls

Control + medicine w/3 momentum - (5d20)

(111211819) = 61

Jan 17, 2017 3:22 am
Thyran takes aim at a second devolved scientist.
OOC:
bravery 11 + security 5 = 16 target, with a ranged combat focus of 3
use the momentum gained from the last shot
[ +- ] result

Rolls

Fire Phaser - (3d20)

(1878) = 33

Damage 8[CD] - (8d6)

(64463565) = 39

OOC:
I had two successes (minus one for additional difficulty), and Phenna has 6, so an additional momentum of 5! You top off the group momentum at 6/6
Phenna picks up a metal girder and jams it hard into the side of the door, then uses her Phaser to weld it in place. This door isn't lightly to move again without the assitance of a plasma torch.
OOC:
You can treat the Outside and Hallway as permanently divided zones for the moment, no further tasks needed. A phaser burst from this side should dislodge the girder if you want to open it later.
Meanwhile, Nadim studies the symptoms of Dr. Shipp. Now having two points of reference in the development of the devolution, devising a cure will be a lot simpler.
OOC:
Well done! The momentum pool is now 4/6 once more, and you may do a Bravery+Medicine or Bravery+Science Task with a difficulty of 2 to devise a cure in the next round. Speaking of..

New round!
Unaffected by the incoming hail of stones, Thyran takes a steady aim and stuns another devolved human.

The closest remaining one is enraged, and charges towards him.
OOC:
Complication! The primitive humanoid has 2 successes, Thyran has 1, and 1 complication. The next task Thyran makes will have 1 more difficulty than it normally would have. Thyran takes 3 damage and is knocked down by the raging humanoid.

Phenna may act in combat, Nadim and Sevek may try to devise a cure.

Rolls

Primitive Humanoid attack (TN10) - (2d20)

(26) = 8

Thyran Defense (TN16) - (2d20)

(2012) = 32

Primitive Humanoid damage - (3d6)

(126) = 9

Jan 17, 2017 3:42 pm
Ignoring Nadim's comment on the noise from the combat (a Vulcan would be ashamed to have been distracted so), Sevek studies Nadim's results, determined to find the answer to devising a cure.
OOC:
I would like to use another point of Determination, bringing my Determination pool down to 2/4.

Rolls

Bravery (7) + Science + (5) = TN 12 + 1 Determination (automatic 20) - (1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (3) = 3

1d20 : (18) = 18

Jan 17, 2017 5:10 pm
Nadim makes sure to offer what helpful suggestions he can to his Vulcan colleague. Moving from the realm of medicine into the science of fabricating a cure, it makes sense for Sevek to take the lead on this task. That said, Nadim's experience with medicine surpasses the Vulcan -- especially human physiology.

"Don't forget to recombinate the latent DNA vectors here and here.." he helpfully points out.
OOC:
Rolling 1d20 to assist.

Rolls

Assist? - (1d20)

(9) = 9

Jan 17, 2017 5:42 pm
OOC:
I'll allow the assist after the fact, which brings Sevek up to 4 successes out of 2 needed, and brings the group momentum up to 6/6.
With sufficient data already collected and collated, it is a small task for the Vulcan to follow the correct methods to a successful conclusion. Sevek transmits the data to the lab's medical replicator, which just needs some minor coaxing before it replicates a cure. The cure should immediately cease the transformation of any patient it is administered to, and they should return to their normal selves within hours, or days at the extreme. You will need to evacuate the patients though, as prolonged exposure to the devolutionary phenomenon may halt, or even overcome the cure.
OOC:
You have two choices in administering the cure; individual or mass curatives:

-Individual Cures: Loading up hyposprays with a curative is quick and efficient... but it requires each patient to be cured one at a time. This requires an Empathy + Medicine Task with a Difficulty of 1 for each individual patient, who must be within Reach (this is an Opposed Task if the patient is still hostile; if the patient wins, they hit the character with a melee attack).

-Mass Curative: Jury-rigging a device to generate a pulse that counteracts the phenomenon can affect everything within a few kilometers of the science station... but it’s a lot more difficult. It requires a Bravery + Engineering Task with a Difficulty of 4 to complete, after which it cures every affected being within range.
Jan 17, 2017 6:38 pm
OOC:
Can we do both if we need to? that is, cure Drs Shipp and Jasper and then consider a device?
Jan 17, 2017 6:43 pm
OOC:
Sure, I don't see a problem with that.
Jan 17, 2017 6:47 pm
OOC:
Ok. Will wait for Phenna and Thyran to act to round out the turn then go from there.
Jan 17, 2017 6:51 pm
Phenna runs to the landing pad, pulling her phaser as she goes. As she gets outside, she takes aim at one of the attackers that was hitting the main door. Feeling a surge of emotion from her success at barring the entry, she lets loose!
OOC:
Using 2 momentum to buy 2 extra dice.
OOC:
Post Roll:
5 successes
Possible damage effect: 3 + 2 effects?

Rolls

Pewpew? (Bravery + Security = TN12) - (4d6)

(3213) = 9

Damage? - (4d6)

(6145) = 16

Jan 18, 2017 8:35 am
Phenna stuns the would-be intruder. Now only one antagonist remains --the one pummeling Thyran--.
OOC:
New round!
In his rage, the primitive humanoid is unaware of the current circumstances --that he is now alone, facing two highly trained starfleet ensigns. He raises his club and hits Thyran once more.
OOC:
Both have two successes, but since Thyran is prone, the primitive humanoid's attack gains 2 extra momentum (winning the opposed task). Thyran takes 2 more damage. All of you may act now.

Rolls

Primitive Humanoid attack (TN10) - (2d20)

(66) = 12

Thyran Defense (TN16) - (2d20)

(157) = 22

Primitive Humanoid damage - (3d6)

(431) = 8

Jan 18, 2017 1:26 pm
Phenna turns, sighting in on the one assaulting Thyran.
OOC:
not sure if I made any momentum last time. If I did, I will use 1 now, if not I'll just use the first two rolls.

Rolls

Phaser (TN12) - (2d20)

(1719) = 36

Damage? - (4d6)

(1261) = 10

Momentum (if I earned any) - (1d20)

(7) = 7

Jan 18, 2017 3:42 pm
Sevek turns to Nadim.

Through our combined efforts, I believe we have developed a viable cure. I highly recommend you load two hyposprays so we can administer the cure to Drs. Jasper and Shipp quickly.
Jan 18, 2017 10:59 pm
Thyran rolls to his feet and fires on the primitive!
OOC:
spending one momentum
OOC:
11 damage
I forgot what to do if a roll is lower than his Ranged Attack Focus of 3

Rolls

Phaser TN16+1 momentum - (3d20)

(278) = 17

Damage - (8d6)

(31262622) = 24

Jan 19, 2017 7:50 am
OOC:
Lower than focus = extra success.
Rules1.2 says:
Each die that rolls a 1, or equal to or less than an applicable Focus for that Task, scores two Successes.
I count 4 successes, and the difficulty is 4 (2 + 1 from the complication in the last round and +1 for being in reach), so you make it (barely) ;) I count 11 damage! :o
Thyran's phaserburst hits the devolved human square in the chest, sending him flying. You have pacified the intruders, and don't see any more in the immediate area.
OOC:
Victory! Combat is over, you have secured the are. Proceed with the curatives as you'd like. Everyone (both combatants and science team) can have 1 determination back for the heroic action and devising of the cure.
