Chapter 3: The Darklake

You saw Ander come up and start circling the boat a moment earlier..... :)
Moving Dustin out of the way, Bildaweer walks up to the wall, studying it a bit. As he pushes the buttons from the middle of the row to the outer edges, the buttons stay in place. When the last two are pressed, you hear a rush of water and the giant doors open up, revealing a chamber some 300 feet from door to wall, and about 40 feet across. You can easily row the boat into the chamber from the body of water you are currently in.

On the walls of the chamber, you do see that there is dried seaweed along the surface. On the far wall are wide cuts that appear to be other buttons, only much larger. They sit about 6 feet above the waterline.

Ander's toothy maw explodes out of the water as he launches himself into the air in an animalistic expression of "well done". He crashes back beneath the waters, torpedoing towards the room within.

When Dustin recovers he helps pole them into the chamber.

You all row the boat I to the chamber, following Ander. When you press the buttons you find that one's doesn't move at first. The other slides in and the doors swing closed, then the other button gives way and water Cascades down the Walls in a torrent. Slowly you watch the walls move by as you rise up the chamber.

Nearly 30 minutes later, you crest the top of the chamber and face a dark passage, lit for the first few feet by Faerzress. You hear a rumble and notice part of the wall opening to allow you to sail out onto the glass-smooth lake.

As the doors open, Ander, who has been exploring the rising water and taking advantage of his agile shark form, leaps out of the water again, shifting into a human once more and landing on the deck of the ship. "Greetings, friends!" he says with a smile, "How goes it up here, above the black waves?"

Cemos seeing this falls back on his butt and exclaims AHHH! Carnfoundit Ander don't ya be jumpin out of the water like that. You gave me a start!

Ander smiles again. "I'll take that as a compliment, master dwarf. I wouldnae think much could give you a start, so it is a feat to have done it."

Dustin tries to compose himself quickly as if he wasn't freaked out when the toothy form of Ander burst from the water and when he did it again save turning into his human form.

Once you are through the locks, it seems to be pretty smooth sailing. You spend a good two days sailing without any interjection from nature. Creatures stay away from your boat, and the waterways seem to leave you in peace. You spend more time getting to know one another and making yourself comfortable with your new compatriot.

First shift takes over and spends two or three hours navigating around. The time is spent in a lightly illuminated area of Faerzress before fading into darkness. Georges ensures the torchmace is lit and in its bracket near the middle of the boat, casting a flickering green light across the entirety of your ship and not much beyond.

Those of you with darkvision still can't see wall or ceiling in the chamber.

Suddenly, your boat is wrenched sideways as you enter a massive whirlpool!

As before, you can have up to 5 people from your shift of 5 working on navigating out. You'll need to make 2 group Strength (Athletics) checks in a row to navigate out of the whirlpool.
