This time Jarveena flinches from Ryte's touch. But she rises to her feet and wipes away at unshed tears. "Aye." she responds simply. She sets about burning the bodies, and rather than lingering to watch, she goes to follow Elspa and Frick. She pauses, as if trying to decide whether to beckon to Ryte, but turns and moves on.

Ryte stays to make sure the light from the fire doesn't attract anything.
Mar 21, 2017 1:06 pm
Frick shrugs at the odd choice in decoration and moves to see if there's anything valuable or useful on the floor.

Elspa trots over to the western curtain and pulls it aside with her axe, looking into the area beyond.

Jarveena & Ryte

You work together quickly to set the day's second funeral pyre ablaze. As Ryte watches out for trouble brought upon by the fire, he notices the sounds of the jungle are starting to get quieter.

Frick

Frick examines the stone brick floor washed in blood. There are only candles and lamps on the stone, but you also notice track marks left in the dried blood. Most are the kind left by sharp claws and scaled feet, but you do notice one unmistakable boot print pressed into the cruor heading down the stair.

You also notice a single loose brick. Prying it up, you reveal that the stone floor was laid upon another surface - black, cold, and perfectly smooth.

Elspa

Elspa peers beyond the curtain. The statues are revealed to be figureheads of old ships, mounted on the walls like trophies. Bare-chested mermaids and heavenly angels all stare down at the room in horror: this appears to be the troglodytes' dining hall. As if a macabre parody of a lordly feast, the hall is filled with shining bronze platters full of half-eaten limbs and copper pots filled with hearts and spleens. The spaces between are littered with cracked bones sucked clean of marrow.

At the back, you spy the Sea Witch's figurehead, cracked down the middle, waiting to be mounted on the wall.

It is 7:45pm. What would you like to do?
OOC:
I assume Jarveena has returned with the others while Ryte is still outside watching the cave entrance.

Ygne, recognizing their value, begins pocketing the fetishes. She also takes the dagger and slips it proudly through her belt after admiring its gleam for a moment. She ponders the stitching on the side of the creature's head, but does not find it anything more than noteworthy, and she rises once more to her feet. Afterward, her hands a mess with gore, she smears them down the front of her jerking and walks toward the large design on the north wall.

She steps over to Frick, looking somewhat uncomfortable and grumpy. As she watches him work with the loose brick, Ygne is reaching into her mouth and wiggling a loose tooth. She spits the bad taste from her mouth once more, and asks Frick, "Find anything good?"
Mar 21, 2017 10:43 pm
"A floor under the floor. Wierd..." Frick says, standing up and shrugging.
Mar 21, 2017 10:51 pm
Elspa sniffs once, almost as if she could smell whether or not there is a troglodyte within the room, but it is more of her indifference to the figureheads, even her own. Visually checking the room's occupancy, she turns around to step across the floor to the top of the stairs that descend.
Mar 21, 2017 11:45 pm
Having rejoined the others, Jarveena nods to Frick and Ygne just as Elspa turns towards the stairs.

It is pitch black down the stairs; taking lanterns?
Mar 22, 2017 12:06 am
Elspa goes back to retrieve her torch.
Mar 22, 2017 2:26 am
Ygne steps over to her pack--which had fallen to the floor when she'd been hit--and upon doing so, notices her dropped shortsword. Collecting that, she sheathes it once more, and begins to root through her belongings. Pulling free a lantern and oil, she fills it up and sets it the burning, the bullseye style shedding a bright light in a cone ahead of her. With everything prepared, she picks up her pack and slings it back onto her shoulders, which sag a bit from the weight. "Floor within a floor," Ygne repeats Frick's words at a low mumble a while later, almost distastefully, "Stupid. Only need one floor."

Ygne walks toward Elspa and, somewhat petulantly, offers the lantern out toward her without a word.

You descend deeper into the earth through the wide tunnel. The walls here are pocked with the same strange crystals as above, reflecting the lamp light and retaining a glow of their own after you pass.

As the tunnel winds its way through the earth, you begin to hear the sound of cascading water ahead. The tunnel eventually levels out, the bottom submerged within several feet of saltwater and dripping through the ceiling. As you slosh through it waist-deep, you see a light at the end of the tunnel. Turning off your lights, you make your way to the source.

Peering around the corner, you see that the tunnel opens up into a volumous, torchlit cavern with a cracked, rounded dome. Water is gushing in through that wide crack with a deafening roar, filling the cavern with a thick mist. At the centre of the cavern, about 40 feet from your location, a large stack of crates and barrels has created an artificial island.

Atop the island, a haggard looking man sits in a modest wooden throne. He looks weary, his head in one of his hands.
[ +- ] A haggard looking man
He is flanked by three Broodguards, one of which has a beautiful rapier slung at its hip - Jarveena and Elspa recognize it as Leathe's own steel. The other two Broodguards are busy tossing body parts and buckets of blood into the water between you and them.
OOC:
The ground in this cavern is submerged in 3 feet of water and will count as difficult terrain. Climbing the crates to get to the top of the island will require a DC 10 athletics check. The whole room is partially obscured due to the mist; all perception checks are at disadvantage. What would you like to do?

"Hey!" Ygne shouts, figuring that their sloshing has generated enough noise to render stealth useless (though she hadn't really thought it through that far). "Hey, you, on the boxes!" She points a finger, the rest of the hand gripping her blade, "Are ya human? Are you king here?"
Mar 22, 2017 9:31 am
Jarveena comes up behind Ygne and peers around the corner at whomever the other woman is speaking to. The instant she lays eye on Leatha's sword she angrily whips an arrow onto her bowstring and lets fly.
OOC:
Aiming for the throat of the Broodguard who bears Leatha's rapier. Ugh. Not even gonna bother to roll damage for that.

Lifting my head, surprised to see another human...a living one at that...
Me ? King ? You could put it that way... Honestly I've been thinking about resigning but the alternative offered was less than pleasant... I don't suppose you would care disposing of my subjects for me ?

As if mentally connected with the same thought, Elspa charges for the broodguard with the rapier, axe and shield leading the way.

As Ygne calls out, the man on the throne makes his move, pulling a weapon from a concealment. The manacle on his wrist barely even clicks as he readies his strike.
OOC:
Moss has achieved surprise. For initiative, everyone gets to act on round two, players go before monsters. Everyone can take their turn first come first serve style, and Moss can basically take two turns, during the first of which your Assassinate ability is on. I'm on my phone so I'll ask you to refer to my above post for environment summary and I'll repost it in a better format soon.

And everyone, welcome deadpool_qc to the game! We've been setting this up for weeks through PM, hope it was a fun surprise! I'll tell you more in OOC Chat later.

"Fuggin' DIE, trog!..." the rest of Jarveena's long stream of curses is unintelligible, and is lost in the roar of the waterfall. She reaches for another arrow, and fittingly just happens to draw one of the bronze-tipped ones she found earlier decorated with a curse word.
