Also I started with the standard dice array, and then added race modifiers, I also took the +6 for each level for HP (started at 10 + con modifier, is there something I missed on this?)

Good question! Paladins know all spells they have slots for, so you know all 1st level Paladin spells. However you only have access to a certain list of them, called your prepared spells:
Quote:
You prepare the list of paladin spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the paladin spell-list. When you do so, choose a number of paladin spells equal to your Charisma modifier + half your paladin level, rounded down (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
So if you had a charisma of 14 (+2) and 3 paladin levels you could pick 2+3/2 = 3 spells to have ready to cast. You can change that list at the beginning of every day.

You will also get some Oath Spells. You always have oath spells prepared. Oath spells don't count against the number of spells you can prepare each day.

So on the character sheet should I put the prepared spells?
Mar 21, 2018 6:56 am
And the oath spells?

Yeah, you should always keep track of which spells you have prepared, especially since you can change them out after every long rest. I started 5e with a paladin and wasted too much time fretting over the perfect spell list, not full realizing that I could completely change the list every morning. Never use a certain spell? Drop it. Realize I'm fighting a bunch of undead? Add Protection from Evil and Good.

Something to keep in mind: a lot of Paladin spells are concentration spells. You can cast other spells while concentrating, but you can only have one concentration spell going at a time. It really makes it difficult to come up with a well-rounded list.

By the way, I'll stick with Kit and be one of the rescue-ees. Kit will take a Sorcerer level, giving him sorcery points he can use in conjunction with a Warlock's ability to regain spell slots after a short rest.

Len, should I keep Kit's old spell list until the rescue?

You sound like a pro! Good. With the +6 HP for each level beyond 1,did you also add your con modifier?

@McDunno: The rescue will occur after a bit of a time jump of a few days so you might as well change it.

I'm not sure if I understand what's going on. It seems like we each have two options:
1. Stick with our current character (promoted to 3rd level) and be a prisoner and eventually rescuee.
2. Create a new character and be part of the rescue team.

Looks like McDunno is taking Option 1 and Starbearddo is taking Option 2. Am I understanding this right?

I did not add the. On modifier for each level

You have it right. The new character will also be level 3.

I think I'll stick with Torden then. :-)

I'd like to stick with Pageflap, but I wonder if it's possible that he managed to make it out of there to be part of the rescue team?

That could work. You didn't go down to zero hp yet, perhaps you managed to escape. Perhaps Pageflap recruited the rescue team at a nearby town and is leading the mission.

The bad guys wouldn't have had time to pee on their boots before Pageflap got away.

I present you Sulprac Daphuc

I think I did the spells correctly. Since I have 3 spell slots that means I essentially can cast 3 spells per long (or short?) rest? How do the Oath spells impact this? Also I included the channel divinity spells in my spell list, is this correct?

Looking good! To answer your questions:

Having three spell slots means you can cast up to 3 spells per long rest. You can cast the same spell 3 times or 3 different spells or whatever you like.

Keep in mind that your Divine Smites also use spell slots. Smites are probably better than most spells. You can trigger them after you hit with your sword and it just stacks on extra damage.

Chanel Divinity does not use spell slots, it is separate. You can Chanel your Dvinity once using either option, and then you need to do a long or short rest before you do it again.

On a separate note, I see you have a maul and a great sword. I'd recommend just picking one. It's not like you can dual wield them.

@Naatkinson: you can use it if you can turn all those numbers into a story :) And I'm assuming you will be adjusting the order of your ability scores so that you can qualify to be a Ranger.

Any weapon suggestion? Since I can't have a shield and a two handed weapon having two two handed weapons in case I get disarmed made sense
Mar 23, 2018 12:57 am
Getting disarmed isn't a terribly common event.
