Bryn hears the warning call but ignores it, he is completely consumed by the box.

Pulling out the Kauvic tools he licks his lips in anticipation and inspects the box.

Required Action: tell me about light sources.

Akkeen had one oil lamp. He sits it down on the floor beside Brynn, inside the hearth, and then backs up to the great furnace column with crossbow pointed outward.

Brynn is holding an oil lamp of his own (may be in the process of sitting it down to start working with both hands free.)

I do not expect Maeriks to be holding a torch since he would have to drop it in any combat. If no one else would carry a source besides the two lanterns, then Maeriks would do so and will just drop the torch.

Also, rolling initiative. @DMJ subtract 2 if Bryn isn't counted since he specifically stated he was ignoring the sounds.

Ahri growls as he slides his curved blade from its sheath. He plants his feet to hold his ground until the first among the creatures flies within range. Choosing his moment, he then lashes out.

Thorn is next to Maeriks. Urdav's blade is out and carves two giant arcs in the air at the incoming flying creatures, barely glimmering in the dim light of a dropped torch. If the light were brighter, his allies would see him smiling.

Judgement escaped from its scabbard with a rattled hiss as Kray brought the wicked, serrated Otessite blade to bear. Torch in his left hand, moving to cover Bryn, he called out. "Form up around Bryn!"
Kray will center himself on Bryn's back. A semi-circle defensive line should do. Some sort of perimeter that keeps the friends at bay.

Two attacks from Judgement and a swing from the torch.

Top of Round 1 (TR1)

As the flying head edimmu flutter in the group follows Kray's call and consolidates around the hearth to protect Bryn and the light sources and also to use the pillar-like structure of the chimney as cover and obstacle.

Ahri slashes one of the edimmu with his quick curved blade. The wretch's voice buzzes out, "GGGGGAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!", and it takes a hard turn and flutters away into the periphery darkness.

Ahri Attack: Hit E1

Maeriks puts his long glaive into action without delay. The first flier is able to divert just in the nick of time, but another coming in from a different angle cannot avoid Maeriks's quick reverse strike. The pole blade cleaves right through one of the edimmu's wings, sending it on an immediate crash course to the floor. It bounces and rolls on the stone, winding up a little behind Maeriks. He sees its crazy eyes wide open in shock and its inhumanly long tongue slapping on the floor. It flaps its remaining wing to tilt upright and look up at Maeriks. Tentacles begin to pour out from its neck.

Maeriks shifts stance and grip. He drives the butt of the glaive pole straight down into the head of the monstrosity, cracking its skull against the ground.

Thorn swings Urdav's blade out in full extension, timing it perfectly. The heavy blade breaks through a brown bearded head, hitting it square in the face high on the bridge of the nose. The swing is so fast and the edge of the blade so sharp, the sword does not even stop its motion - the head is split in twain, both halves splattering to the floor in blood and brains. The wings on the bottom half with the beard still flap in disgusting fashion as tentacles erupt from the neck and writhe around in their own gore.

Thorn is ready for a return swing, but the few edimmu that were getting close seem to be pulling back now, withdrawing to safe distance in the air and circling.

Now many of the flying edimmu have let loose their tentacles which hang underneath their necks. Kray and Thorn remember the edimmu that they saw in the Hechesi hovel in The Swamp, the one the burst forth from Bezil Koral's body.

After the first few edimmu approached and got wounded or killed, the others seem less intent on getting close. Instead they fly around out in the darkness, only occasionally dipping into the well-lit area, only their shadows and cloudy images visible flitting in and out of the outer edge of the rooms and high in the ceiling.

But their buzzing and calling continues. Intesifies even.

They shout in contempt, speaking a mix of Heshbaan and their strange buzzing speech.

The sound and the fluttering in the low light of the few lamps and torches makes for a haunting scene.

Bryn continues to work unhindered, as if he takes no notice of the fury outside of the hearth.

Everyone else holds a perimeter around the hearth column.

Thorn is the first to see something out in the edge. Something else
Something bigger.

It is as if a wing flapped by briefly in the darkness and then disappeared again high in the shadows of the ceiling. No one can see it clearly, but Kray too thinks he saw something.

Rising above the noise of the buzzing and the insulting shouts, a low and terrible moan rolls through the chamber. It is a sound that you can almost feel in your chest.

It is terrible. Horrifying.

And another moan bellows out from elsewhere in the darkness, as if to answer the unhallowed sound of the first.

Required Action, All PCs: WIS Save DC 13

Anyone who took the Mantis of the Blue Vapor Tea Time during the break can claim a boost on this one, meaning Advantage on the Save.
