Akkeen
BR4

Akkeen twists and turns, finally breaking his head free from the clasping strap-like arms of the mushussu. He coughs and gasps, crying out in pain and struggle as he keeps trying to free his arms and legs.

End Paralyzed Condition.
Grappled Condition remains.

The cloaker taken care of, Kray slipped past the edimmu harassing Bryn and pulled another torch in favor of his falcata, lighting it on the flame of the last lamp.

If possible J, I'll use a falcata bonus action to attack Bryn's harasser before lighting the torch.

Rolls

Falcata ba - (1d20+8, 1d6+1)

1d20+8 : (7) + 8 = 15

1d6+1 : (4) + 1 = 5

OOC:
Forgot Maerik's bonus glaive attack. Add it to a flying face if it isn't too late.

Rolls

Glaive bonus atk, dmg - (1d20+7, 1d4+4)

1d20+7 : (5) + 7 = 12

1d4+4 : (4) + 4 = 8

Nov 21, 2018 4:15 am
As Bryn slips away from the edimmu he turns with a sharp snap of his hips to face the tentacled being head on and draws both kukri blades for two attacks.

Rolls

Attack1 - (1d20+8, 1d8+5, 3d6)

1d20+8 : (18) + 8 = 26

1d8+5 : (6) + 5 = 11

3d6 : (131) = 5

Attack2 - (1d20+8, 1d8+5)

1d20+8 : (8) + 8 = 16

1d8+5 : (8) + 5 = 13

Kray, Bryn

Kray takes a few quick strides to move back to the pillar hearth when he sees Bryn in trouble. Kray slashes at the wild edimmu, making it pull away briefly to dodge.

Kray Attack: Hit

The opening gives Bryn enough time to double draw both of his forward curving kukris. He brings them to bear in the same motion with fierce slashes at the flogging edimmu. One blade hits low in the mass of neck tentacles, slashing several of them completely off while at the same time tilt the flying head on a spin. The second strike splits the skull and knocks the mass of head and wings out of the pillar interior away from the light.

Bryn both Attacks: Hit

Kray steps over the lamp on the floor to protect it. Taking off his backpack briefly, he keeps a watchful eye and ready blade as he pulls out another torch. As he lights it with the flame of the lamp, the torchlight catches and then expands slowly. Kray holds the torch outward to cast light to the others further away from the pillar.

Thorn and Maeriks provide help and cover as Iasu assists Akkeen in breaking free from the dead but locked grip of the mushussu arms.

Everyone regroups again close to the pillar. Ahri strikes up another torch from Kray's and the light field widens and stabilizes around great column.

The edimmu buzz on the edges, careful to stay out of reach of Maeriks's long pole blade. They do not engage again, but instead buzz from the periphery darkness, sending harsh shouts.
[ +- ] Heshbaan Edimmu shouts
Everyone stays ready, poised for battle.

But it does not come. After a minute or so of harassing shouts, the edimmu turn and flutter out of the east hall.

Finally all is quiet again. The vast Great Hearth Room is safe again, for the moment.

Akkeen looks worse for wear with injuries, but he is regathering himself. He is amazed that he is alive.

"I have been delivered from certain suffering and doom. If Suter-Set would have taken hold of me, he would have used me as a sacrifice. My life was spared by the quick action of my brother," he puts a hand on Iasu's shoulder, "and by the fierce steel of the north! I am grateful to you all."
He nods to the group. "Know this: you have struck fear in the hearts of the Rabisu! Even their worst spirits from The Underworld have fallen like sheep at slaughter." He looks over at the dead cloakers. "Suter-Set and Naram will realize that this night is like no other. The end of their tyranny is near."

His eyes are wide and almost glowing. He has a bit of a crazed look upon his face, which still has some bad cuts and smeared blood.

He turns to Bryn. "And now, Bryn Rynalt. Does not The Book lead the way in your piercing vision? Will we behold what is behind the ancient Phoenix?"

OOC:
Taking some liberty here, based on the assumption that while Bryn works there is time for some quick field dressings and whatnot to patch up some of the group's injuries. If this is not the case then please ignore.

Healer Feat: As an action, you can spend one use of a healer’s kit to tend to a creature and restore 1d6 + 4 hit points to it, plus additional hit points equal to the creature’s maximum number of Hit Dice. The creature can’t regain hit points from this feat again until it finishes a short or long rest.

Poultices: If you spend 1 minute applying one of your poultices to a wounded humanoid creature, thereby expending its use, that creature regains 1d6 hit points for every two ranger levels you have (rounded up).

Rolls

Healer's kit - (1d6+4)

(2) + 4 = 6

Healer's kit - (1d6+4)

(6) + 4 = 10

Poultice - (1d6)

(5) = 5

Poultice - (1d6)

(3) = 3

Iasu the physician goes to work inspecting and treating the injured.

He discovers that Akkeen is badly wounded, far worse than he is letting on.
OOC:
Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only injuries were to Akkeen.

Maeriks I know is yearning for more healing, but he's gotten all of the natural recovery he can get for now given the near death critical condition he faced hours ago.

If no one else uses those healing numbers, adjust your spend and just use 1 Healer Feat treatment on Akkeen, Jabes. I guess both Poutices can be used on the same person? Let me know if you give him both (if it can count) or just stop at one.
Nov 21, 2018 2:49 pm
Iasu notices that some of the wounds Akkeen suffered are from his own arrows! They had punctured all the way through the cloaker and onward into Akkeen beneath.

"Do not worry, brother," Akkeen says when he sees Iasu's concern, "You did what had to be done. You saved me from certain death."

He looks at Iasu eye-to-eye, leaning in close as he clasps his shoulder. "And besides," he continues, "You are the physician. You can mend my wounds and give me back my lost strength."

Akkeen turns as directed, Iasu shifting him around to treat and wrap all injuries. Akkeen suffers from harsh slashes on his legs. His arms, torso, neck and face are all scuffed from the rough constricting appendage bands of the cloaker. He has neck wounds on both sides where the monster's long mandible pierced him during flight. Iasu sees that his brother was nearly killed.

But Akkeen takes no time for pity or concern. He talks with enthusiasm and vigor, a gleam in his bright eyes, speaking Otessite to his brother.

Bryn understands because of the effects of the recent ritual cast... but cannot hear the next entry as it is too quiet.
Akkeen looks over at Bryn who is working diligently on the Phoenix Box. The young tattooed man speaks softly to Iasu,

As the threat of battle wound down, Kray sarcastically thanked Thorn for not dying in the cloaker's "love wrap", cracked wise about Maeriks' juggernaut fearlessness, jibed at Bryn for "being slow" at his job and gave Iasu a sincere nod of appreciation for his treatment of the wounded.

Going to Rally maneuver some of the crew before the short rest while Iasu heals. Temporary bonus hp for those below

The Halonian Phoenix Box

The group recovers and pulls security while Bryn returns his focus on the Phoenix Box.

Using his odd specialized tools that he paid so dearly to have crafted by the Kauvic traveler nearly a year ago, Bryn works meticulously to manipulate the small latches and tumblers buried at multiple ports within the elaborate mix of stone and bronze that serves as the face of the hidden safe. Inserting perfectly shaped needles, hooks, and spreaders, the smooth-handed Dannein goes back and forth in a complex series of small motor movement, referencing his thick black-bound grimoire all the while. He pulls, prods, twists, and tilts the small tools - leaving some of them in place and withdrawing others as he moves through the sequence.

On one pull there is a rich chocking sound, like an inner mechanism clanking into place and releasing within. Bryn smiles but continues without delay to the next step, focused like a lion stalking a stray gazelle. Another click on the next twist. A minute later: another clunk. Each next step begins to pull forth another sound of inner mechanisms falling into place.

Bryn knows he has to get each step in the sequence exactly right or the entire mechanism will fall to reset, forever sealed. He is getting closer, but he knows at each step he is on the brink of disaster. Sweat is beading up on his brow and under his eyes.

Guarding his wrapped wounds a bit and limping, Akkeen approaches and stands behind Bryn, watching eagerly at Bryn's every move. The young tattooed man is fascinated. His face shines with anticipation under the light of the recovered lamp that he holds.

Bryn pushes in on a rectangular bronze plate on the left side of the front panel. The plate pivots in, providing a handhold.

Bryn grips it, stands up to stabilize his stance, and the pulls outward.

The thin bronze iron and stone wall within the hearth column, the front face of the hidden door which Bryn has been attending to for the past half hour, pivots on a hidden hinge. There is a heavy growling rumble, the sound of stone scraping against stone. Still yet, the door, more than a foot thick, swings freely.

The Halonian Phoenix Box opens.
