Iasu returns the gesture, grasping Elam's hand fervently, and continuing to speak in Otessite: "It is my wish also, brother, that we may each of us be freed from this accursed place. I can feel our mother watching over us even now. I believe the northerners were sent to us. I believe it!"

Bryn blinks a few times to clear his vision and watches as Thorn approaches.

After speaking with Thorn, Bryn found the twins and hesitantly pulled out the black book from his pack and started flipping through pages wildly.

To Elam in Otessite: "Do not be angry with Namtur. Do you fear the northerners will scorn us if we reveal our true nature? Even after we helped them? If they do then so be it! We will win our freedom without them! But see, the big Dannein, at least, accepts Namtur as he is. It is a sign, brother! It is almost time to reveal ourselves to the world. I may even reclaim my true name!"

Not a problem at all. This is a time to rewind. You and Jabes have put in good examples even.
Everyone, feel free to post on anything in any sequence. There is some flex here on in-game timing.

I apologize for my absence. I've been trying to post but having problems with the site. I seem to be back, but the site is extremely slow. Not sure if it is just me. The past two days were more than just slow, it's made it impossible to post. Regardless, I apologize for my silence.
Ahri allows a few beats to pass in silence as his eyes remain locked with those of Elam. His expression neutral as he both sizes up the man before him and contemplates his words.

His expression softens slightly and his shoulders visibly relax, "Although I don't take kindly to imprisonment by any being for any purpose, I'll admit the situation is...unique." Herests a wrist in the pommel of his sword and hooks the thumb of his opposite hand in his sword belt. "It appears the time has come to hunt spiders and win riches."

Elam says:

"I fear that you may still be discovered. There is one called Nabua who is clever - skilled at detecting intruders. Be on your guard and slay any man or monster who might beguile you. Work quickly. Once you have captured or learned what you can, meet at the Eagle Door. If what Bryn says is true, we will breech that enigma barrier and assault Suter-Set and the others within. Beyond the Eagle door lies the treasures that you seek."
"A diversion will leave them exposed." Kray often used the tactic himself, whether a political ploy or the use of highly mobile infantry or cavalry unit to bait opposing armies into overcompensating, weakening their flanks or rear for the true crux of the assault. "Just be sure not to overreach. We'll want you around when we consolidate strength at the Eagle door."

Iasu is ready. In addition to his medicine bags he now bears a bulging backpack, assorted satchels, and a well-worn bowman's case. Everything about the man is scuffed, weathered and bedraggled, but obviously well cared for. For possibly the hundredth time, he adjusts the floppy hat on his head.

Ezeriah says:
Kray was shocked to see Maeriks. He had been certain the man was food for scavengers. "It would appear death does not become you!" He rose from the chair and approached Elam, speaking to Maeriks. "The Fates smile on you."
Xorthan says:
"I'm glad you're still alive, Big Man," Thorn grins at Maeriks. "Yshala smile on you, but I never thought I'd see you again."
"Yeah, no, I wasn't dead. Ivor was tho..."

Maeriks blinks his eyes and then clears his throat.

"We going back out now? Big Namtur was out there smashing dogs and bugs while you all sipping tea. I smashed some bug thing too that was like a worm-squid. What was that?" he asks, turning toward Elam.

Elam gets translation of Maeriks' question and answers back in Heshbaan, that is in turn translated back.

"Suter-Set continues to call forth strange creatures from the Veins of the Earth. Wretched beasts emerge from the Pit to walk the surface of the World where they do not belong. Naram takes interest in these abominations, harnessing them and corralling them. Using them as beasts of burden, soldiers, spies. Some teach him dark secrets from the Underworld."

"Naram is the one who sat the trap and blood bats? Then you have me with you."

Maeriks does a quick check over his gear. After a moment his face contorts slightly when a question comes to mind and he can't think of an answer.

"How did you all come down to be here?"

Insight check - seeing if Maeriks picks up on anything from the new dungeon crew.

Maeriks ...

"How did you all come down to be here?"
Elam hears the translation coming through and looks at Maeriks for a bit, but then he turns and walks away, busied with other conversations going on. He soon moves on to talking extensively in Heshbaan with his brethren, giving them last instructions to prepare for the two front departure.

Reading into it, Maeriks supposes that it was not just that Elam was busy or having a difficult time in the translation. Instead maybe he does not want to speak about why they are here.

Maeriks sees the twins heavily engaged speaking with Bryn about some books and old skin mats. They seem fascinated and speak rapidly with Bryn in Heshbaan as they turn through pages and point out illustrations on scrolls.

Namtur sits a room away alone. He is wearing new armor, fully equipped with the visored helmet that he wore before. He is sitting on a bench with his hands held outward, low, and open. He might be in prayer.

Both of the twins are fascinated with the Black Book. They speak Heshbaan with Bryn and exchange ideas quickly.

Adar-Malic watches on as Bryn flips through the pages to show the references that he has deciphered. Perhaps less talkative than his twin brother, Adar-Malic breaks his stoicism. "This tome is a prize. Ancient beyond measure - yet how was it made so long ago? It would be a puzzle to figure it out entirely. So many writers of different times and places. See here, this is Paroan script - even beside Archalasian here. I am fascinated by it. I believe you were right to bring the book here, for it may lead to a great discovery right in our midst."

He looks on as if drinking in every image and character. He is hanging off every word Bryn says about the writings and drawings.
Nov 3, 2018 12:48 am
Akkeen looks on and continues to exchange with Bryn. He listens intently and seems forthright in sharing info, speculating about possibilities of actually finding a hidden Halonian strongbox in one of the furnaces.

When Akkeen notices Bryn's circular plate that is packed in the wood blocks, he studies it intently, peering closely to the runic writings and symbols etched on it. He looks up with a confused / curious expression, asking Bryn a strange question, "The artisan who flattened this and made the etchings upon it - did you see him, or know him perhaps? Was he a glassblower?"

Akkeen exchanges a puzzled look with his brother.

Soon the groups pack up, prepare, and part ways after closing the defensive doors behind.

Two groups split apart from one another, going separate ways:

One led by Elam, with Adar-Malic and Namtur.

All others are routing to the low hearth chamber, with Akkeen leading the way. They are set out to find the Phoenix Box, if it is there to be found.

The group moves through the rugged basement tunnels, with the small flames of long-neck oil wick lamp lighting the way.
OOC:
Pic below is similar for inspiration, though not perfect with the electric light. Imagination needed on the effects of fire light casting through instead, with all darkness beyond.

Akkeen looks back and gives caution as the group approaches the entrance to another large room. He speaks in a low voice, not whispered but certainly controlled. "Beware. We enter the Hearth Chamber. Be on guard for spies and lurkers. Naram is injured, but his vile beasts still roam, perhaps even here."

When the light casts out, everyone beholds the mighty architecture. There are three great furnaces, none lit, but all foreboding. Massive. Imposing.
The darkness feels oppressive here.
OOC:
Another picture that is similar to the set, but not exactly right. This room is under ground in basement levels, so there is no window in the back. Also none of the fires are lit.
